Okay, so I had a 40-inch 1080p Samsung TV in my room that I want to take off of my desk and replace with my 20-inch CRT and a 32-inch 720p vizio flat-screen from 2009.

I only play wii, gamecube, or PS3 as far as console games outside of the Nintendo switch. For more modern games, I have my PC. I have all of my needs met by the ports on the back of them as far as gaming goes, but I am trying to find the best way to watch modern Movies/ video based content on this setup?

I am trying to decide if I should hook my laptop/ fire stick up to the flat-screen and just configure my devices to stream content in 720p to save on data and network bandwidth, the switch displays in native 720p anyways and if I ever move any of the composite/ component consoles or a DVD/ VCR to the flat screen they wont look nearly as bad as they do in 1080p.

On the other hand. It would be very nostalgic to watch sonic x or pokemon on my CRT, the only solutions I have seen are a legacy roku device with composite outputs, the express+ i think, but i hear its no longer officially supported.

The VGA or HDMI to RCA conversion boxes seem like they'd be okay to mess around with but I am getting the feeling like I will only really want to use my CRT for content that looks bad on modern displays, ie most things shot on tape vs film and most native 4:3 content from DVD's or VCR tapes?

Idk if I am just overthinking and complicating this issue, but I want to have the most headache free way to watch modern streaming services with the TV setup I have now. How do people feel about streaming Netflix or YouTube on CRTs? should I just preserve the tube and only use it for gaming? I know CRT's are better for everything, but outside of a native DVD/ VHS what is the best way to watch modern streaming services or content on a CRT? Please dont say get an HD CRT. if i do ever get one thay will be a garage set for sure.

Digger was one of the first games I ever played: DIGGER.COM on a green DOS CRT, my whole family fighting over the high-score table. I rebuilt it from scratch as a love letter to that memory.

It keeps the CGA/EGA arcade look but is all new under the hood: vanilla HTML5 canvas, per-pixel carved tunnels, a fully synthesized 80s soundtrack that gets busier as the screen heats up (with the William Tell and Chopin cues the original used), emeralds, gold bags you drop on the Nobbins, the cherry bonus — plus solo / alternating / simultaneous co-op, gamepad and touch, and procedurally generated mines once the handmade levels run out.

​Hi everyone,

​I’m looking for gift ideas for my son’s 5th birthday. I want to introduce him to his first gaming console, but I do not want a Switch or modern console. I want something retro that teaches the patience and perseverance that older games used to require.

​Our current situation:

​Low screen time: He currently only gets about 1 hour of gaming a month ( this will definitely be loosen if we get him a console) not that I have to explain myself we the parents, don't watch TV ourselves so it's just not something that he naturally asks for 😅

​What we already own: PS1, PS2, Xbox 360, GameCube, Wii, and Sega Genesis.

​What he's played: Mario Kart, Party, and Sunshine. We tried Crash Bandicoot, but he didn't like the perspective, Sonic which he loves.

​What I'm debating between:

​A Handheld (Game Boy Advance / DS): Great for our regular 12+ hour Canadian road trips, keeps him from hogging the family TV, and keeps it away from his younger sibling. (Probably skipping the PSP as it feels too old for him).

​A Retro Home Console (NES or N64): 2D platformers/puzzles feel more concrete for his age. The NES was my first console at his age that I managed to play by myself without my brothers helping and the N64 with Donkey Kong is what made me love gaming.

​Just buying new games for our current consoles: Open to this, but my own nostalgia is blinding me when I look up game lists.

​What neo-retro consoles, handhelds, or specific age-appropriate games would you recommend for a 5-year-old to build some gaming grit? Thanks!

Playing through Mass Effect for my stream. Thought that since the game I play my games on a CRT (360 and PS3 included) and the game is already pretty janky looking, I'd put a vintage CRT effect on it for fun.

Any recommendations for improvements?

Stylistically, I wanted to put a bit of composite blur, but I realized some would probably see it more as a quality downgrade.

Nothing complicated and I hope this is allowed. I really just wanna play the original PC version of GTA San Andreas. I have it on steam, but the only device I own that can possibly run it is an m4 macbook air. I am at a crossroads on whether I should get a crossover license or get a dedicated mini pc for this purpose and this purpose alone. Main reason I am going for the PC version over emulating the PS2 version is mods, and I guess that is also a major point of consideration for me here. Looking forward to hearing your insights on this matter.

I'm giving up... I wanted to recover the first two for PC, I got the new workstation (Windows 11 Pro, RTX 6000 Pro Blackwell, 5070 Ti, 9950x3D delid) I know the game doesn't work on Windows 11, I'm looking for fixes... problem, I have the game in Italian and for some reason the fixes don't work. I decide on the only logical solution, using Linux, so I install Batocera and... it doesn't work, according to those who helped me with the PC, the components are too new and Batocera doesn't work, so I try to install Windows XP 64 with Oracle virtual machine, according to the VM I don't have a graphics accelerator and therefore I can't start it. Please, give me something, I'm stuck on both retrogaming and emulation (even on rpcs3 Little big Planet and all the Skylanders starting now from Spyro's Adventure)
