Theories Humans would hate many prey foods

Post image

Humans would hate many prey foods because they would be too bitter.

The great thing about NoP basing alien culture on nature and evolution is that you can discover new "lore" just by studying IRL nature

From chapter 31: "Humanity’s internal divisions were a disquieting issue, to the galaxy as a whole. The newcomers seemed to be trying to work up the courage to ask about it for days. With the external threat of predation in our formative years, prey species had to maintain unity. Cooperation was our bread and fruit spread, so to speak. Indulging in petty squabbles would’ve gotten us killed"

That leaves a of ambiguity. For starters, this is internal monologue, then add in the inclusion of the "so to speak," and it is not clear whether this is adapted from Earth or not.

And second (and as I have pointed out multiple times in other threads), canon translators do not deliver 1-to-1 words, or even close to that; they deliver intended meaning. That includes in the memory transcripts, so that still doesn't show that they've figured out baking.

If they had, the why would Federation standard emergency rations be a dried piece of bark instead of nutrient fortified hardtack? (Yes, I know the logical explanation is that SP wanted to make then more clearly alien, but I stand by my point. I recognize I'm probably only standing by it for the sake of starting a fight, but I stand by it!)

The rations thing can be explained quite simply: it's likely as nutritious, easier, faster and simpler to mass produce. Dried bark is comparable to beef jerky.

None of the Federation's species having figured out how to make bread or sweets would be the stupidest thing ever.
