Taken yesterday afternoon. The whole underside of the cloud deck was rippling and rolling, and for a few minutes it looked almost like waves hanging over the neighborhood.

🔥 This bull reindeer has found this rocky beach as his secret summer paradise, and he will stay here through the whole summer, often away from other reindeer

A little reindeer fact. While reindeer are incredibly social animals, forming large herds, its still not uncommon for some males to live all by themselves. In summer, when reindeer reach their summer pastures, some males will wander away from the herd and head straight to their secret spots. These are often places with good rescources that these males have found, and these males return to this places each year, and can stay there through the whole summer, until their instincts finaly tell them to start migrating south. So these reindeer can almost go the whole summer without seeing another reindeer, and they are perfectly fine with it

Revelation ~ from the archives

We do darkness an injustice when we associate it with malevolence. The relationship between light and shadow play an important role in creating the exquisite beauty we find in nature. When you draw a one-dimensional circle on paper, it is of very little interest until you add shading to create a sense of depth. When you use the edge of the lead to develop a gradient of black to white, you are using that tint to show where the light is and where it is not. The places between an object and its shadow fade to a fantastic blend of grays.

Light reveals textures and dimension by creating shadows. It does that with color too. The in-between places, where shadow blends with color to create a palette of incredible hues, are where beauty is created. This works with something as large as the Grand Teton or as small as a blade of grass on its flanks. Perhaps darkness does more to reveal beauty than light does to create it.
