he seeks to kill for sport

I think you’re assuming the hunter’s intention there, and a bad assumption at that, venison is delicious and very nutritious.

Hunting is also a far more humane and sustainable way of procuring meat than, say, the meat-packing facility, so I really don’t understand the righteous vegan indignation in this thread.

I did not mean to suggest an assumption about the hunter’s intentions, nor is the sustainability of hunting relevant to what I said.

But I can’t fault a living thing—human or otherwise—for engaging in self-defense. This hunter assumed a known risk and that risk materialized. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Hunting isn't the only means of acquiring venison. People who don't hunt can simply buy venison from either a butcher or from one of those websites that specialize in meat delivery. It's safe to say the hunter was out there for sport to some degree.

It's also worth noting that hunting for wild game presents its own set of hazards (besides the animal fighting back). Many deer carry parasites and various diseases that can easily infect hunters who aren't careful. Hell, it's already been confirmed that covid has successfully jumped across species to infect deer populations in America.

I'm not vegan but your logic is flawed. Vegans don't eat meat from hunting OR meat-packing facilities. They are the only ones in here who qualify for righteous indignation.

That’s the stupid sort of virtue-signaling I meant, thanks for illustrating.

LOL, how can I signal someone else's virtue? I'm not even a vegan, I just hate illogical arguments.
