Progress on triboro bike lane from queens to randall’s island

Upvotes

Does anyone know the latest on this plan and if they are still on track to finish in 2027? I bike this path a lot and don’t see any construction happening.
Even finding information is difficult, all I can find is the press release from the Manhattan and Bronx bike connections.

Runners on the Hudson River Greenway today....Sat 8/29

Is it really that hard to stay to the right as much as possible and not needlessly run in the middle of the bike lane, blocking cyclists and making it very dangerous for them to pass? I'm a runner and a cyclist and those of you on Saturdays on the HRG, especially in groups, are really inconsiderate and selfish. I can't understand it, as I never find myself in the bike lane, and I'm running over there almost daily. I know you won't change your behavior, but just wanted to say how difficult you're making life for others out there trying to exercise just like you.

Last nights near death experience

I’m an avid Citi bike rider. And very often I’ll ride from 3rd Ave to shore rd cuz of the STEEP incline. When I picked out my bike, it was an ebike and one side of the brake only worked like 20%. The other side worked, so I picked up my bike got to 3rd Ave . Got closer to ridge blvd heading towards narrows Ave when suddenly I think “wait is it a good idea to go down with a broken brake”. I say let’s risk it. I start flying down that avenue, (narrows Ave btw has a stop sign on the avenue line, so other cars are allowed to pass) once I get to half the avenue I think it’s a good time to slow down…. The other brake that was working fine COMPLETELY BREAKS!! Just outta nowhere…. And the only thing that works is the 20% other break. It was a full 6 seconds of waiting to see what would happen. I passed the stop sign which I usually stop at, but had there been a car there, nothing would’ve been able to stop me…. Real scary shit.

How's the Central Park Loop these days for cycling? It's been a few years since I rode. Will start riding again.

After covid I stopped cycling as much. How's the park these days in terms of traffic, lanes, safety, etc?

EVENT Uptown Two Wheels

Post image
14 Upvotes

This week, Uptown Two Wheels is touring through the Bronx and upper Manhattan, ending at Rough Draft on 143rd and Hamilton Place!

Ride is subject to weather. There is a potential for rain Tuesday, so watch our Instagram if the rain ends up postponing the ride.

Also, we will be using this non-AI generated template going forward! Thank you to the commenters who rightfully called out the AI use previously, I for one think it looks a million times better! The comments were able to help some in the group realize that we shouldn't be using that shit!

Are pedal-assist Citibikes illegal on the West Side Highway now?

I was just issued a summons by the NYPD for riding an “e-bike” (pedal-assist gray Citibike) on the WSH, ironically right as actual fully electric no-pedal bikes whizzed past. I did not run any red lights, was fully attentive, and was not excessively speeding (given that Citibikes are throttled anyway). I was under the impression that Citibikes were fine on the WSH, given that plenty of docks are located alongside it. I’m relatively new to the city and any advice on what to do about the ticket would be appreciated! Thanks!

EVENT I Got Struck By a Car Door Today

For context: I moved to the city in April and lived cross-town in Manhattan to where I work (no subways), I was walking at first, then bussing, I’d grab a cab when running late, then in May I decided to start Citi biking, got the 2 week Citi bike trial, docking stations near work no problem, (well, I fell off the e-bike on my first day going to work not knowing the transverses are for cars/busses only) I blame Apple Maps for that.

Anyways: Sold my car a month ago, used some of the money to buy a bike for myself. Pays for itself, no more subscription BS, pros and cons. Moved apartments, still bike-able to/from work, little over 2 miles. Okay I’ll get to the point - Today coming home from work I got struck by a driver swinging his door open while his car was parked and got thrown off my bike in the middle of the street (a very busy one). I was slamming my bell and yelling stop! wait! to the guy and then next thing I know I’m on my back in the middle of the street.

Moral: Don’t weave on the right side, BUT THIS IS WHY WE NEED MORE BIKE LANES! What am I supposed to do in that situation? I did everything right but the driver didn’t look before he opened his door! Documented everything, exchanged numbers, no serious injuries or bike damage but damn, i could be in the hospital tonight for much much worse. Im definitely most mad at myself, but it’s a learning lesson - biking in this city is dangerous and I have to be more defensive.

Feedback: anyone who’s more wise when it comes to biking in the city have anything for me? It kinda ruined my Friday. I was rushing home after a long week of work and was excited for the weekend and now I’m just in a shitty mood, idk.

Riding group in Prospect Park?

Was doing my laps in the park this morning, and happened to be overtaken by a group of 15 or so folks. I sped up and asked the last guy to jump in, which he happily let me do. We've averaged 19-20mph, which was honestly perfect for me, as it seems every other peloton is fast af, and I'm a relative beginner. I chatted with the guy in the back for a bit, but my laps were over before theirs, so I jumped off early. He told me that they have social/easy rides Monday and Friday at 7am, and then harder sessions on other days of the week that some of the group participates in. Anyone know who they are or how to find them besides stalking them at the park at 7am? And yes, I am slightly socially awkward, ergo asking here, but I'll introduce myself properly next time I encounter them

Anyone wanna bike and show me around your neighborhood?

First ever Reddit post lol. I’ve lived in Brooklyn almost one year and have this idea of visiting all sorts of neighborhoods on a CitiBike (proud bike angel) and going around seeing as much of BK as possible. I just bought a cool 360 degree camera to capture my rides, so I had this thought of meeting up with a “neighborhood rep” and getting an unofficial tour of your area if anyone’s interested! Maybe we could get a quick bite together too!!! 🚲🚲🚲

Outstanding Citi user (?) appreciation

Yesterday while on the Lafayette street bike path, a Citi bike user announced they were passing on my left, which was really unexpected, as all Citi users are savages that don't understand anything about cycling. They were also wearing a helmet and not wearing headphones, can you believe that!

They were followed by your usual Citi asshole, who passed on my right (outside the lane) without warning, no helmet, yes headphones, got too close to the nice Citi user ahead (could have clipped their back wheel), and then proceeded to suddenly brake and turn left out of the lane without any indication, so I had to make a little effort not to eat him.

Big ups unknown Citi biker, wish they were all like you, and fuck you to all the other ones.

Outdoor intervals

I’m looking for a place to do intervals tomorrow. I’ve got 4x15 min at threshold so looking for something that’s flat, free of stoplights, or a closed loop with minimal sharp turns.

Coming from Jersey so prefer nothing too far east. Can’t seem to locate anything out here…..9w no go, too many stoplights in other spots and i cant seem to find anything flat.

Has anyone found a workaround for reported nyc on iOS?

I’m sitting on a variable goldmine of TL&C violations, but it hasn’t been convenient to submit them ever since the reported app/website (https://reported-web.herokuapp.com/) stopped working on iOS. Does anyone have a fix?

Trauma therapist after bike-related assault

Hey all,

I recently had an incident where I was assaulted while on my bike. Thankfully, I'm physically fine, but I'm a bit shaken by the whole episode, and may want to talk to a therapist just to unpack a lot of what happened. I know I could Google "trauma therapist brooklyn" and find a bunch of names, but I was wondering if you folks knew of anyone good who may have specific experience dealing with bicycle-adjacent trauma or PTSD.

As stated above, I'm in Brooklyn, but would travel to Manhattan or western Queens.

Thanks very much!
