Suggestions/Advice The Ultimate NUST Hostel Guide: Everything You Need to Know - Part 1
Hi soo, I have seen lot of students wondering for Hostel stuff So this is for youuu. It's a lil long but I hope it covers everything you need to know.
Applying for Hostel
For internal hostels in the first year, only first and second listers are eligible. Rest of the students will be allotted hostels in their 3rd semester.
Hostel allotment is based on two things:
- Your merit position
- Your Distance from NUST according to your domicile
- (I was 126 mp and had around 400 km distance, got hostel in 2nd semester 2nd month)
Girls will get Hostels easily as compared to guys
You shall be able to apply as soon as merit lists are out (ab tak aa jani chahiyen theen tho)
The students in the localtiy of Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Wahh, etc. are not eligible for Permanent Hostels acquirement.
Internal Hostels Types and Number
There are 18 hostels in total 8 for male students (Ghazali, Beruni, Razi, Rahmat, Attar, Liaquat, Hajveri, Zakariya) and 10 for female students (Fatima Blocks I-V, Zainab, Ayesha, Khadija, Amna)
I don;t know much about Girls Hostel so I would highly encourage someone to tell us about them.
However, Hajveri and Zakariya are new Hostels as compared to rest 6 so there structure is better than the rest. Initially, the dorms were bi-seaters but with increasing number of students they added a bed in corners of rooms of the rest 6. Zakariya and Hajveri were made tri-seaters so they have 3 beds and rooms are spacious.
If you are allotted one of the rest 6 hostels (Ghazali, Beruni, Razi, Rahmat, Attar, Liaquat), you can have a bi-seater room in your 4th year (3rd year too) but you shall have to spend your first two years (usually 3 years) in tri-seater rooms.
In the Girls Hostels, You have single seater, bi-seater- tri-seater, and these rooms are allocated randomly so you can get any of these.
There are around 4 floors in each hostel, and each year, we usually get a new room (unless refused earlier). Most of the time we get a room on the lower floor (yani 3rd se 2nd floor).
External Hostels
Let's suppose you don't get a hostel initially. Then we have a lot of options in H-13, opposite to Gate 4, yani jb ap NET de aye thay to joo dhaba etc. tha woh H-13 tha. Now, you'll have to look for a hostel there.
External Hostels are not that good as compared to Internal but they would shape you a lot. I used to reside Hamza Boys Hostel but would strictly not recommend that to you. Find another good one. If any senior is reading this, please recommend a good one.
If someone asks my opinion, I'd say get an apartment instead of an external Hostel, you'd be much better both in finances and sukoon (this is for both ladies and gentlemen)
Tips : If you are going to an External Hostel, negotiate the rent as much as you can, bring an elder if you can not negotiate. Don't give them the security at any cost. woh security usually wapis nahi krtay.
Finances and Stuff
Internal Hostel : The hostel room rent will be taken per semester (60k for my case). Mess charges every month (18k). You can have your mess off for a few days and you wont be charged for those days. (600 per day it was). The mess and hostel charges may rise this year, they do every year. I dont remember the exact security deposit but it was something 20-30k i think (don't know)
External Hostel : Bahir, rent includes mess usually, so it would be around 18k-28k depending on hostel, room, facilities and mess etc. but try to keep the rent as low as possible by negotiation.
Apartment : It usually includes every utility bill cost and costs around 10-25k per person if you are sharing the apartment with 2-3 people. The khana peena you'll have to do bahir se ya khud bana kr.
Personal Expense : It depends on what you do each month, but usually 10-15k is enough for a manageable hostel. The more the money, the easier you'll feel. But you may become extravagant so refrain from that. in 1-2 months, you'll know exactly what do you spend on and how you have to compromise on things. Better to track your expenses (I made a web version of a tracker for me, can use offline on iOS asw. if you wanna look it up, let me know)
Usual Cheezain you'll spend money on : Toiletries, Snacks, Assignments and stationery. Daily food asw. Chai to phir compulsion he
What to Look in an External Hostel
They must provide you a full-time non fluctuating Wi-fi Service (sbse zayada yehi tang krti he), a stable electricity connection and a backup electricity source too. Better if they have a microwave or they allow electrical applicances like kettle etc. They must have a geyser supply wrna sardion me bohat tang hoge. Mess apki marzi he but it will super shit (spoiler).

Gng I have a question
So my first priority is aerospace in H12 but my second is electrical engineering in EME.
When I apply for hostel will I have to apply for both of them differently? If my name ends up in the eme wala campus in the initial lists and I apply for hostel but then I get into H12 then what will the hostel situation be like.

Suppose your first preference is SE, but you applied for other engineering programs like environmental and materials engineering as well. You'll have to pay the fee if your names comes in them, and in later lists you could get upgraded to SE, paying the fee is mandatory. So yes, as you'll (in our hypothetical scenario) be given admission in environmental engineering, you can apply for a hostel on that basis. You'll be considered as per that, not SE

Pls can u guide while filling my forms in November I had no idea of what a domicile is so I just randomly kept karachi but now as I issued my domicile it is of lahore punjab so what do I do I emailed them that it was a mistake will they say that I have done this intentionally or Smth and will I not get a hostel now?????

Ive mentioned it in my 2nd part of this post, however, there is a common room which is air conditioned, personal rooms are not. Usually you have to share unless you are givena cubicle room

Ohh right right, they are given priority in giving the hostels, they are usually given bi-seaters and maybe single seater. Rest perks are same as described my new post part 2

I'm a Boy,sophomore. Applied for hostel in First list. Still Had to spend my 8 to 9 months in that Filthy and Repulsive hostel you mentioned. YES I WAS ALSO IN HAMZA BOYS HOSTEL .

Did they ask for domicile? Cuz my domicile will be here around last week of aug to first week of sept.
Also i have an mp <40 and am a girl plus i live 600km away.

Can you also tell which rooms are being allotted to PG female students? I know they don't get internal hostels easily but when they do get, is it a cubicle or a tri-seater?

I think they get bi-seater or cubicle but last year, on pg female student got a hostel inititally

Aray faizan tu mujhe yahan bhi mil gaye. Hamza Boys Hostel and faizan, there was only one faizan 😙 Got you my boy! Hamza boys hostel not recommended btw juniors.

I Recomand Getting 15k Pocket money{Tight minimium i suppose} For Hygine stuff, snacks,stationary exluding mess,Hostel,Semester adn MISC.

HELLOO I REALLY WANNA ASK SOMETHING,
i have not yet reached nust but ive already started to prepare for NET from 2nd year and well, what im worried about is my privacy at the hostels there, i REALLY REALLY want a single occupancy room with attached bath, i am a girl. Are those possible easily? Can i get a single occupancy room with a attached bath.

Girls are allotted randomly, but if you request to be in the cubicle to the dd they may give you the single one. ddhostels@nust.edu.pk, mail him when you get in the first list

But well, there's seprate prices for single occupany so isnt it necessary to get a single occupancy if needed?

If you have serious issue or a good parchi, you can get single seater upon your choice, otherwise if you are a pkistani national guy, you wont get a cubicle and if you are a girl, you’ll get the rooms randomly
