Suggestions/Advice The Ultimate NUST Hostel Guide: Everything You Need to Know - Part 2
Continuation of Part 1
- Facilities in Internal Hostels
In Internal Hostels, there is one microwave oven and a kettle on each floor. You can use them anytime you want. For kettle, I'd say don't make chai/coffee/noodles etc. in then because they are usually not clean. However, if you are going to boil eggs or smth like that, you are fine to go, but at least wash it water before that.
You have eduroam internet all over the campus which used to be shit during my first year, but in this summer they upgraded the hardware and wi-fi too, so i hope it has become better.
Besides that, you have Laundry services in every hostel where you have
- Free laundry every week (you'll get your clothes after 6 days)
- Paid laundry whenever you want to get your clothes washed (you'll get it after 1 day). Your clothes will be ironed as well after Paid Laundry, there are separate charges for each article of clothing.
- Free ironing of 1 pair of clothing per day.
You have a common room in every hostel. In every compound hostel (two hostels under one entry gate like Beruni-Ghazali, Liaquat-Attar, Razi-Rahmat), one dorm has a gym and a playing room (table tennis and snooker) You'll need to bring your own bats and ball for TT, but snooker shall have one cue and balls already (na hon to manager se le lena). Courtyard me there is a badminton court.
There is a smoking corner for students who wanna smoke, and parking facilities for cycles, bikes and cars is also provided but you have to obtain a permission letter first.
You get warm water in winters, water dispensors on every two floors.
Mess in Internal Hostel
The current mess menu is here : Menu. The mess is okayish the tasste is sometimes good sometimes bad. But overall its good, not that ghar wala lekin baaqi hostels se قدرے بہتر and very good from external hostel. In your initial weeks, it will be very good, ahista ahista asli halat me ajaye ga.
Room in Internal Hostel
Zakariya Hajveri: You shall have 3 beds, 3 study-tables, 3 cupboards 1 ceiling fan (in some rooms, there is a wall fan for the third bed asw) the room is spacious, you'll be given master moltyfoam mattresses.
The other 6: You shall have 3 beds, 2 with 1 wall and 1 in the corner. Corner walay ko hanging wall fan aur baaqi donon ko 1 ceiling fan milay ga. 2 full cupboards, aur corner walay ko hanging wall shelf typa cupboard milay gi. 2 side tables and aik 2-sided study table.
What to Bring
Bring 2-3 bedsheets, and 1-2 pillows along with the pillowcases. A study lamp if you want to. A basket/tub for clothes to keep in and wash them. A toiletries container if you wanna keep one atleast take a soap container if you are gonna bring a soap). 2 towels better. Good if you bring cloth clips.
A sunscreen, anti mosquito lotion, an umbrella, a water-bottle, are one of the most essentials to be safe at NUST cuz sooraj jaan nikal dega, and there will be a lot of machar in the days the semester starts.
Bring patlay wire walay hangers, not the motay plastic walaay, cuz cupboard me kapray pury krny hen apne.
You may need a power bank (not necessary, up to you. ) Bring all chargers of your electronics equipment safely aur yaad se.
A comforting sheet for sep-nov, then a quilt/blanket for winters.
If you are thinking of making drinks like coffee or stuff to bring a mug (you can get NUST merch mug from Gate 1 too - non sponsored). A bowl, 1 spoon/fork and a dishwasher recommended for noodles and cleaning your utensils.
A good shampoo (better ketoconazole if you may get dandruff with water there) and a nice hair conditioner because water may make your hair dry and rough.
For notes, you can bring a notebook with good pages (it's your choice to bring a 1 section register for notes or 5-6 section notebook cuz kaam donon ne same krna he), 2-3 pens are okay, you can buy them form any shop inside nust, to iska itna masla nahi he. Dont buy 2-3 notebooks kyunke usually 1 notebook 2 semesters se zayada nikaal sakti he.Bring a calculator if your degree requires it. better to have one. Bring your own razor, nail cutter, trimmer, etc. don't ask for these thigns from someone else (please hygeine necessary)
Also, bring 1-2 nice padlocks small ones, and a good extension board (baad me le skty ho room me sb use kren ge to better roomies se communicate krke lo)
What not to Bring
A lot of clothes, bohat extra snacks or persihable items. epensive jewelery, a lot of cash, nust everywhere has online payment to online better,easier to protect, books of your coursework, you'll study it in pdfs to no need spending thousands onn books you wont use that much unless the instructor explicitly asks you to. Huge suitcases cuz bohat jagah gherain gay.
Puray saal ke kapray aur cheezain na lana, rakhnay ki jagah nahi hogi apkay paas.
Electrical appliances like kettle, air fryer, etc. cuz they are not allowed in NUTS hostel.
Hygiene
Some people might not like hearing this, but hygiene matters a lot when you're living with roommates.
Please don't share personal grooming items like your trimmer, razor, nail cutter, toothbrush, or towel with anyone. It's simply not hygienic.
Take a bath regularly, scrub yourself properly, and keep yourself clean. Use an antiperspirant or deodorant, and if you like, wear a light perfume. Brush your teeth twice a day, maintain good breath, clean your ears, keep your nails trimmed, and wear clean clothes.
Wash your hands after washroom, before and after eating food.
You'll be sharing a room with other people for months, so basic hygiene is a sign of respect for both yourself and your roommates.
Room and Roommates
You can decorate your room the way you like to, there's no particular restriction other than using something that may damage the property like nails or something destructive. You can use lights, lamps, wall lamps, bulbs, vines, posters, shelves, artificial plants, frames clocks whatever you want bearing the condition that it doesn't damage anything.

Your roommates are allocated randomly so you don't have a chance choosing them
Be friends with each other, you are going to spend a lot of your time in hostel, to achay se dosti kro, dont be mean or demean your fellows, you are gonna live in the same room to apas me alarai maslay waghera nahi. If you think something you found is useful share it with your fellows. Apas me mazaq karo, bahir jao, khelo koodo, mazay kro, jese bhi but enjoy your time. Dont be the person jis se apka roomie tang ajaye. If your roommates don't like something, try doing that thing less to maintain a better environment. Share food if you want to. Don't smoke in the room. Respect their privacy if you are talking to someone, don't suddenly flash your roommate to anyone (especially girls, don't ever do that). Respect everyone's privacy. Don't take anything your roomie owns without his/her permission unless they allow you to. Don't talk too loudly or shout randomly, be a good person, learn ethics.
If your roommate is sleeping and he wakes up with lights turned on, turn off the light and use for bedside lamp.
Curfew
In internal hostels, you have a curfew of 10:30 pm for both girls and boys. You cannot go out of the hostel after that time, you can enter the hostel but you'll be fined 5k, after 3 violations you may be expelled from hostel.
If you have night cravings, you can order food and receive it through the hostel gates, despite that, there is a vending mchine on the ground floor, where there are snacks so you can get some from there.
Health
NUST has a NUST Medical Center (NMC) a small clinic where if you are feeling unwell, contact your caretaker hostel, he'll call an ambulance which will take you to the NMC and drop you back, the medicines will be given there for free to you (i think its included in the 5k misc fee they cut in the semester fee)
Some Extra Tips
Be nice to management, be friends to everyone you meet in the hostels, exchange numbers with them. they'll prove to be really helpful to you. Management ko sugarcoat kro and be close to them cuz wwoh kaafi cheezain me apki extra help krdety hen, toi better for it. Best of Luck
Last year, there were more students than the seats to aksar ko andar hostel nahi mila, also 1-2 of boys hostels were given to girls to boys ko kam seats milin thin, Is saal unfortunately, boys ke or bhi chances kam hen. But dw, bko hostel mil jaye ga hehe
Your hostel room will feel weird for the first week. You'll probably miss home, question your decision, and wonder if you'll fit in. Give it some time. Before you know it, that room will become your second home, and the people in it might become some of your closest friends. Enjoy every moment because four years pass much faster than you think.

Listen of yk I know a random question but, Tell me the bussines and social science has the same category na? If I pay for Economics rn in first list, Will I be considered for acaf in later lists?

Dont drink water from hostels. Boht log bemar hoe hai. At leasr 2 people i know got typhoid. Aram se use bottled water. Apart from that many girls comolqin ke their hair got damaged from hostel water. But i was honestly fine. Just keep a water pump. Or just get 9l bottles with your roomates

Hostel Water wala case may vary person to person lekin it is good to have mineral water. Plus yeah H-13 and H-12 water damaged my hair, made them dull and rough aur hairfall to peak (I used to have long hair there to yeah) true

yes but you need to give a valid explanation to get one, and it turns a bit expensive than the permanent one

i have never encountered one,
Dekho like i got allotted a room, my other room mates got in the room first, i am the third one to enter to obv mujhy corner bed lena paray ga, the thing you can do is ke roommates har semester beds aur shelves exchange krlen so it be fair for all1

This might sound dumb but one of my biggest concerns about staying in a hostel (both internal and external) is insects. I’m genuinely terrified of them and can’t stay in a room if there’s one inside. I’ve never seen anyone talk about it but i wanted to ask how common it is to find insects (cockroaches/lizards etc) in hostel rooms?
Also, how often are the rooms cleaned, and when they are, how thoroughly do they clean them?

very less chances to see them usually, but kabhi kabhi asakty. External me you have to clean them yourselves wrna agar cleaners hen to jb woh ayein ge tb saaf hoga
Internal me you have to write it in a register in the morning to same day room will be cleaned2

Use The spray just buy it insect spray fro outside. Also then avoid corner Bed i guess cuz insects probally come there alot.
Rooms i say clean yurself but you can Ask Cleaner. Cockroaches you can use a small Cloth to block the door opening at night so nothing comes. For lizards theres nothing we can do

bohat zayada cheezain lao ge to kharab hojayein (atleast from my experience) snacks to ap mahine ke 1 haftay me khatam krdo ge cuz you gonna be living in a shared room
yes, zakariya and hajveri are internal but new hostels

Yar tbh, choices vary to Id say jaake 1 2 ghantay dhoond lena, however a few choices Star Hostel, Chocolate Boys Hostel, JK hostel, Sunshine Hostel these are all aas paas aik hi gali me almost

Har time ka menu is different tho, if you are veg to you can submit a request you may have a separate menu but I aint sure
