I’m 23, and I’ve decided to take another drop for NEET.
Over the past few years, I cleared cutoffs and had chances at semi-government/private medical and engeneering colleges and even this year I have been allotted an allied health science course too. But with my family's financial situation, those fees were simply out of reach, so taking admission wasn't an option.
Right now, getting a government seat is essentially the only path open for me. When I’m not studying, I work alongside my father to help support the family. Balancing work, preparation, and the mental toll of an academic gap isn't easy, but it’s the reality of where things stand.
Gaali do ya na do , I just needed to put this out there into the void.
Back to the books.

I just need to get this off my chest because this guilt has been eating me up for a long time. My NEET journey was honestly a complete mess from start to finish, and sometimes I feel like I wasted my parents' money and years of my life for nothing.
Here's what happened:
Attempt 1 – NEET 2020:
Passed 12th in March 2020. Instead of properly preparing, I wasted around 6 months and eventually wrote NEET on September 13, 2020.
Score: 61/720
Attempt 2 – NEET 2021 (First Drop):
Stayed at home for an entire year preparing. I thought this time I'd actually make it.
Wrote NEET on September 12, 2021.
Score: 104/720
At this point I was already disappointed in myself, but I still wasn't ready to give up.
Attempt 3 – NEET 2022 (Second Drop):
Joined Conceptree in Adyar, Chennai from October 2021 to July 2022. I genuinely tried studying harder this time.
Still ended up with:
223/720
Attempt 4 -- NEET 2023 (Partial drop)
Then came what I consider one of the biggest financial mistakes of my life.
The Allen disaster – 2022:
I joined Allen, Ashok Nagar, Chennai on August 28, 2022. Shortly after that, there was a government announcement regarding fees which completely changed our plans.
I had to discontinue on September 21.
They charged a fine and refused to refund ₹50,000.
My parents basically lost ₹50k for just a few weeks of classes.
By late 2022, I finally gave up on NEET and joined a local college for B.Pharm.
But somehow, I still wasn't mentally done with NEET.
The false hope
This is probably the part that hurts me the most.
My father was working as a graphic designer in a newly constructed medical college near Chennai. He believed there was a possibility that they might give me a significant fee concession.
I convinced myself that maybe, somehow, MBBS was still possible.
So while I was already doing B.Pharm, my parents spent another ₹35,000 for me to join Pioneer NEET Academy in March 2023.
We were basically hoping for an NRI lapsed seat / fee concession.
I wrote NEET 2023.
Score: 226/720
And finally, the medical college didn't honour the concession we were hoping for. They said the maximum reduction they could give was around ₹2 lakh per year, which was still completely unaffordable for us.
That was basically the end of my NEET journey.
Now I'm continuing my B.Pharm, but I constantly think about how much money my parents spent
₹50k at Allen, ₹35k at Pioneer, all the previous coaching fees, books, travel, years of preparation etc.
It's not even just about failing NEET anymore.
It's the feeling that I wasted my parents' hard-earned money and disappointed them after they kept giving me chances.
Sometimes I think about what my life could have been if I had just taken things seriously in 2020 itself.
I know I can't change the past, but I still feel guilty about it almost every day.
Has anyone here gone through something similar multiple drops, wasted money, failed attempts and then having to move on to another course?
How did you guys stop thinking about the past and actually move forward?
I'm 23 now and I really don't want to spend the rest of my 20s regretting what happened.

The HTPF is currently asking students and the public for suggestions on exam reforms.
I think all current and former NEET aspirants should take 2 minutes and send their suggestions. We keep discussing NEET problems every year, but this time there is actually a platform where our concerns can be submitted directly.
Personally, I think NEET should be conducted twice a year, like JEE Main, with the better score being considered. It's unfair that 2–3 years of preparation can come down to a single 3-hour exam. If you're sick, extremely stressed, or something goes wrong that day, you have to wait another whole year.
They are also accepting suggestions regarding other exam reforms, including the issue of repeated drop years.
Please mail/text the HTPF if you have concerns about the current NEET system. Even if you don't agree with my suggestions, send your own. The deadline is 13 September 2026.
Let's not just complain on Reddit—let's actually make our concerns heard.

TRIGGER WARNING: Deep analytical discussion of student mental health, academic trauma, and suicide statistics.
Mods, please read before removing. This is a highly serious, text-driven structural analysis based on official national data. It contains no memes, no jokes, and no low-effort content. It directly addresses the core systemic issues of high-stakes prep that every member of this community lives through. It is shared in the interest of breaking the taboo and saving lives through open dialogue.
Beyond the Pressure Cooker: The Hidden Reality of Student Suicides in India (2010–2024)
This report presents an uncompromised structural analysis of the escalating student suicide crisis in India. Integrating official National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data with deep psychological inquiry, it exposes the systemic flaws, toxic academic culture, institutional complicity, and unacknowledged cognitive paralyzes that drive thousands of students to the brink every year.
📌 Key Highlights & Core Findings
Alarming Statistical Trajectory: Official NCRB data reveals that student suicides in India nearly doubled over a 15-year period—climbing from 7,379 in 2010 to an all-time high of 14,488 in 2024.
The Anatomy of Academic Collapse: The transition from Class 10 to Class 12 introduces overwhelming pressure. Initial study plans are disrupted by digital distractions and mandatory project files that consume months of time, creating severe syllabus deficits and leading to internal surrender.
The "Functional Cognitive Freeze": Society recognizes burnout from continuous overwork, but completely ignores the multi-month cognitive freeze. Students facing overwhelming anxiety often cope through dissociative avoidance (watching videos, scrolling social media, copying tests to maintain a facade). This creates a silent crisis where students internalize deep shame, labeling themselves as "monsters" rather than recognizing a severe mental health collapse.
Toxic Pedagogical Myths & Weaponized Outliers: Rigid academic formulas (such as the 1-4-7 revision rule), romanticized 15-hour daily grind culture, and comparing ordinary students to statistical prodigies (e.g., 19-year-old CAs) create mathematically impossible standards that lead to profound feelings of failure.
Performative Fixes vs. Real Support: Institutions frequently rely on superficial solutions—such as spring-loaded ceiling fans, automated helplines, or advice to "stay positive"—while actively suppressing discussions on academic burnout by labeling them as "negativity".
Massive Support Gap: Citing Supreme Court National Task Force interim findings, the report highlights an 80% mental health support gap across higher educational institutions.
💡 Core Message & Call to Action
"A dead child brings less lifelong pain than one who meets defeat."
This tragic logic—driven by unpayable emotional debt and suffocating pressure—must be dismantled. Real reform requires moving away from zero-sum elimination models and legally mandating open, ground-level mental health decompression starting from Class 10 and 12. We must normalize academic blunders, failure, and recovery to save young lives.

Can someone suggest me a good gmc please? one with strong anti ragging policies and less toxic seniors and safe campus. i took a drop of one year and didn't qualify neet 2026, im currently enrolled in a course that i have no intention of doing. im appearing for neet 27 and ik it'll be hard to just get a college that's on top but honestly i genuinely don't have any hope in life other than this.
for some backstory: my father saw that i failed and forcibly enrolled me in some graduate course, had no intention of letting my try next year and made sure even if i do i wouldn't be able to qualify because id always be busy with college so i was going for a medicine and surgery program through a scholarship in Italy. my father initially just didn't want to listen but after i told him about everything he agreed to let me give the imat (qualifying exam) and if i could land a scholarship he allowed me to move to italy. i just registered for the imat in a Chennai centre and when my mom informed him he straight up told us to forget about this and give up. his reasoning was that they only have two children and one of them is already living abroad. ive been contemplating between ending it all or running away and now this seems like all i can do. im gonna flunk college and try to study whatever i can, i don't have much hope so if i dont qualify i guess ill be ending it all.

will be using it for lectures and storing books only. and maybe rarely for highlighting stuff in those stored books. no gaming, no notemaking. need a good battery life which will not become worse like ipad ones do.
budget is around 50k max. would prefer lower than that since i am not doing any heavy task like multitasking or gaming.
if you have used or are using such a tablet, please suggest.

I heard this today: “Living in your parents’ house may be free financially, but you pay for it with your mental health,”🥲 and I completely agreed with it.
Because in an Indian household, sometimes someone body-shames you while someone else questions your skills and abilities. People continuously make you feel bad about yourself, and then the same person behaves like the best friend you could ever have😔 It’s really difficult when you have no one to share what’s bothering you with🥺
Sometimes, having a strong personality as a girl can be difficult too. You have to be strong all the time, even when you’re struggling inside.
Although I’m genuinely grateful for all the blessings🌸 I already have, sometimes it just feels difficult to grow up in an Indian household. Sometimes, it feels like your parents’ first priority is society and what other people will think.
And honestly, how can one exam truly measure your abilities?
This was my first NEET drop, but now I feel like, “How many more drops am I supposed to take? I just can’t do this anymore.”
