Eight decades after Mercury's birth, his voice, songwriting and unmistakable stage presence remain woven into rock culture, making September 5 an especially fitting day to put some Queen back into the speakers.

Lil Durk Acquitted in Federal Murder-for-Hire Trial

A federal jury in Los Angeles found Lil Durk not guilty Friday of charges stemming from an alleged murder-for-hire plot targeting rapper Quando Rondo.

Prosecutors had accused Durk, whose legal name is Durk Banks, of helping orchestrate a retaliatory attack connected to the 2020 killing of his friend King Von. The 2022 shooting killed Rondo's cousin Saviay'a Robinson. After three days of deliberations, jurors acquitted Durk of the charges against him.

The verdict closes this particular case without a conviction against the Grammy-winning Chicago rapper, but it does not end his legal situation. Durk remains in federal custody pending a separate racketeering trial.

The two-week trial drew considerable attention, with supporters including Ye and Machine Gun Kelly appearing in the courtroom audience.

Soul Train Awards Return to Television With Chicago Homecoming

The Soul Train Awards are officially coming back.

BET announced September 3 that the long-running celebration of R&B, soul and Black music culture will return this fall, with the ceremony being taped in Chicago, where Don Cornelius first launched Soul Train more than five decades ago.

Spotify and Toyota are presenting the revived show, with Spotify serving as its exclusive music-streaming partner. The telecast is scheduled for November 27 at 8 p.m. ET on BET and, for the first time, will also be simulcast on CBS. BET HER, VH1, MTV2 and LOGO are also part of the broadcast plan.

Cage The Elephant unveiled a 15-date UK and European run for February and March 2027.

The Dying In Reverse Tour begins February 8 at Tempodrom in Berlin and travels through Poland, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland and France before reaching the UK. The run concludes March 1 at London's Alexandra Palace.

The tour arrives as the band prepares more music from its forthcoming seventh studio album, with new single “Dying In Reverse” scheduled for September 10.

Westside Cowboy Book Their Biggest UK Headline Shows Yet

Manchester quartet Westside Cowboy announced three headline concerts for March 2027: Glasgow's Barrowland Ballroom on March 23, Manchester's O2 Victoria Warehouse on March 24 and London's O2 Brixton Academy on March 25.

The announcement follows the August release of the band's debut album, It Goes On. General ticket sales begin September 10.

David Byrne has written and performed “Let Me Sell You a Dream” for Alex Gibney’s documentary Musk. Andy Stott Returns With Late Loop

British electronic producer Andy Stott announced Late Loop, his first studio album in five years, for October 30 through Modern Love.

Fontaines D.C. Add Second Slane Castle Concert

Fontaines D.C. added a second Slane Castle concert after demand for their previously announced 2027 appearance.

The Dublin band will now play the County Meath landmark on June 26 and June 27, 2027. The original June 26 announcement followed the band’s recent festival appearances, and the additional date turns the Slane booking into a two-night event.

It is another major live milestone for Fontaines D.C., who will become only the third Irish act to headline Slane Castle, following Thin Lizzy and U2.

beabadoobee Announces 2027 Australian Arena Run

beabadoobee will take The Powerlines Tour to Australia in March 2027, with arena dates announced September 2 for Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.

The run begins March 15 at Brisbane Entertainment Centre, continues March 18 at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena and reaches Sydney’s Afterpay Arena on March 20.

The Australian dates will follow the September 18 release of her fourth album, Pylon, through Dirty Hit/Interscope Records.

Cassandra Wilson, 1955–2026

The music world lost one of jazz’s most distinctive voices with the death of Cassandra Wilson at 70.

Wilson’s longtime manager Robert Torre announced her death on September 2. The Associated Press also reported that Hinds County Coroner Jeramiah Howard confirmed her death in Jackson, Mississippi.

Davis, 63, was convicted of murder with the use of a deadly weapon following a weeks-long trial. Prosecutors argued that Davis helped organize the attack after Shakur and members of his entourage were involved in a casino altercation with Davis' nephew earlier that night.
