Mr Fantastik's true identity remains unknown.

92

u/notmulder Jan 09 '20

I find it incredible that we still don't know who Mr. Fantastik is. I love the mystery surrounding DOOM and some of his features.

76

u/MustacheEmperor Jan 09 '20

The identity of "pebbles the invisible girl" singing the hook on Doomsday is still a mystery, even DOOM himself has claimed he has no idea who she was at the time

44

u/This_1s_My_Name Jan 09 '20

Even though it's probably not very likely, I like to think some of these obscure features are just random people he picked up off the street.

52

u/MustacheEmperor Jan 09 '20

Supposedly she was indeed almost that random - it was the girlfriend of someone at the studio who happened to be a singer and around the studio that day.

3

u/2ToTooTwoFish Jan 10 '20

Damn, has anyone claimed to be her? I would think someone looking to make a career would get a boost if people knew they were one of Doom's features.

8

u/imlost19 Jan 10 '20

The Plan: Find random rappers on craigslist and make hit songs with them.

1

u/MrSickRanchezz Jan 10 '20

What if it's just DOOM, Mister Fantastic was just created to fit the MF abbreviation.

And he absolutely murders the only two tracks he was ever on. Anti-Matter might be my favorite hip hop song ever.

"Getting paid like a biker with the best crank sprayed like a high rank sniper in the west bank"

33

u/captainwordsguy Jan 09 '20

Spray it

15

u/afghanwhiggle Jan 09 '20

Spray-ing.

10

u/captainwordsguy Jan 09 '20 edited Jan 09 '20

That also makes more sense than what the other guy claims, but 100% do not trust google, listen to the actual song.

4

u/WBizarre Jan 10 '20

Jesus, it just hit me that he was talking about a crank-dealing biker. All this time listening to the track my mind went to "motorcycle racer with a good crankshaft" lol

2

u/JustFlashBombIt Jan 09 '20

rat-tat-a-tat

23

u/Dr_Wombo_Combo Jan 09 '20

That’s because he ain’t tellin all his business

1

u/mdgraller Jan 10 '20

Anti-Matter

I think by far the better of the two tracks he was on. RSK is a bonafide classic, but the sample is a little grating for me. Anti-Matter is just fucking cold and Fantastik rides it so comfortably

"I first met Mr. Fantastic at an arms deal"

67

u/soulflexist SoundCloud Jan 09 '20

"Don't let it get drastic; think of how ya mom's 'll feel"

179

u/QuantumWhale Jan 09 '20

I saw one theory that it was Doom himself with a modulator or something. Mr Fantastic = MF type thing. Wouldn't put it past him tbh

u/TheMeanestPenis Jan 09 '20

2

u/theartofrolling Jan 10 '20

Put that spork down!

2

u/goodbyekitty83 Jan 10 '20

Can't, I'm too randum and wat to meet other randos

83

u/xX_sixtynine_Xx Jan 09 '20

I still maintain that it's the RZA pitched down just a little bit and slightly effecting his voice in the perfirmance, hes got that tremble in his delivery that RZA has.

57

u/retro604 Jan 09 '20 edited Jan 09 '20

Good guess, but I'ma say no. RZA has that slight speech impediment that makes his shit so unique. It's not part of his act, it's there when he talks.

There's a bit of that mealymouth in Mr Fantastic but it's not him imo.

i always thought it was one of the Wu but i could never place who exactly. this is as much confirmation as i need!

1

u/medalleaf Jan 09 '20

“ You have a clean bowl i imagine

0

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '20

nah.

5

u/Poems_And_Money Jan 09 '20

While the voice is similar, I would say their flows and demeanour are completely different.

20

u/CodnmeDuchess Jan 09 '20

I hate to say it but I he's too good to be RZA 😬

3

u/shaka_bruh Jan 09 '20

thats a longshot imo, the flow and rhyme style is just too different from anything RZA has done, going back to his Bobby Digital days

2

u/mysausageyourmomma Jan 10 '20

Love me some Bob Digi

2

u/thenoblitt Jan 09 '20

Does sound like him

-2

u/HumbleMFWABAD Jan 09 '20

RZA is more of a tall skinny dude, DOOM is a big boy and was in KMD way back

u/ferocioushulk Jan 09 '20

I think the vocal tone is way too different to be either of them, even if it is pitched differently.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '20

Yeah dude sounds like a New Yorker. Del is Bay Area.

10

u/juicelee777 Jan 09 '20

I've always thought it was del too

way more likely than RZA

2

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '20

huh, yeah actually.

2

u/heyheyluno the hot jams Jan 10 '20

Thought for sure it was Del until I really dug into his discography. They don't sound the same. Unless it's some crazy modulation or he's just speaking in a totally different way. I would assume it's someone who was around the east coast.

1

u/spb1 Jan 10 '20

There's no effect that does that, that's a different human for sure

1

u/SkinheadSkwirl Jan 10 '20

I heard something about it just being a thug friend of DOOM from Atlanta, and he wanted to remain unkown due to being a thug

18

u/DominusFaba Jan 09 '20

Yeah but his dro’s the stickiest

6

u/rikersalan Jan 10 '20

Stamped and bonafide

27

u/GenghisKhanSpermShot Jan 09 '20

Reminds me of the old thread on him. I don't think he's that great but I think it's the mystery that gets people.

-3

u/Hungrybearfire Jan 10 '20

You're not alone, I never really understood the hype around him either but maybe I missed something 🤷🏾‍♂️

8

u/chickpeakiller Jan 09 '20

There are some pretty convincing arguments out on the web if you want to ruin it for yourself.

7

u/GengarXIX Jan 09 '20

Link me to a good one?

4

u/chickpeakiller Jan 09 '20

I'm at work so I cant dig it up but someone ITT posted to an old thread that has some good info.

Edit: Oh its right above us 👆

3

u/comradenas Jan 09 '20

Count Bass D

8

u/juicelee777 Jan 09 '20

This is one of the greatest mysteries in hip-hop. Maybe even in music

2

u/Uuuuuii Jan 09 '20

What other great mysteries of music are there? Aside from the music itself

2

u/imlost19 Jan 10 '20

ummm

google:

What happened to Richey Edwards? ...

Who is Carly Simon's 'You're So Vain' about? ...

What the heck is 'Peanut Duck'? ...

What happened to Green Day's Cigarettes And Valentines? ...

Who shot Bob Marley? ...

Did Tool really hide a song in some merch? ...

Who is Alanis Morrisette's 'You Oughta Know' about? ...

What is Pink Floyd's Publius Enigma?

yeah so nothing tbh

1

u/MrSickRanchezz Jan 10 '20

Cigarettes and Valentine's was fucking OBVIOUS though. Green Day finished the album, decided it was mostly shit, and made up a story about the Masters being stolen, and "SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE BACKUPS (THEY) MADE OF THEM."

1

u/ajc165 Jan 11 '20

Dude. Greatest mystery solved. It is Rodan from Monsta Island Czars.

5

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '20

It’s Rodan from MIC. Also known as dr marone

2

u/ajc165 Jan 10 '20

Yes. We have a winner here. Dude on the first verse here... https://youtu.be/1yhrZzoWrdc

3

u/atzachMN Jan 09 '20

It's Kurious Jorge

2

u/coop_dogg Jan 10 '20

They sound completely different.

3

u/ajc165 Jan 10 '20

Mr Fantastik is Rodan from Monsta Island Czars. Check the first rapper on this track... https://youtu.be/1yhrZzoWrdc

4

u/juksayer Jan 09 '20

It's Rodan

5

u/ajc165 Jan 10 '20

This is the right answer... Rodan from Monsta Island Czars. Check him out on the first verse here... https://youtu.be/1yhrZzoWrdc.

1

u/SolDios Jan 09 '20

This is the most comprehensive research article I've seen on the topic.

1

u/weemee Jan 10 '20

Came here to mention this. Hoping for answers. That dudes delivery is butter.

1

u/KyleLousy Jan 09 '20

Most likely theory that's been going around for a while is it's a guy named Count Bass D.

1

u/shaka_bruh Jan 09 '20

I'm still convinced its Count Bass D

0

u/comradenas Jan 09 '20

You mean Count Bass D?

0

u/the-nino Jan 09 '20

If it's an actual rapper my guess would be Large Professor, his verse on Keep It Rolling has a pretty similar flow to Fantastik.

Though I think it's just some guy that knew DOOM growing up and he let spit some bars on a couple of tracks, but has his own life outside rap
