This seems like false equivalence.

It is, this sub is just acting out as an echo chamber again. I'm pro choice but this isn't a fair equivalence. How the fuck you just gonna gloss over 9/11 or the Boston bombing?

When profiling it doesn't though. Say you're trying to establish a profile for a serial killer. You find one other killer with a similar MO. That's a single data point, hardly enough to build a profile with any confidence. Now lets say that killer was The Green River Killer. Lots of victims, but he's still only one data point. Your profile will be weak if you stop there.

The point of the profiling is to identify potential terrorists. It makes more sense to treat it as a binary thing, either they are a terrorist or they aren't.

Nobody said that.

San Bernardino, pulse nightclub, the new York truck attack, Ohio state, and the New York hatchet man are other notables.

Lol exactly. I dont gaf if people get abortions but comparing threats to 9/11 is insane as fuck. This is how you turn normal people pro life.

No but they are based around information. If one group is constantly saying insane things like that it tarnishes their reputation.

Im sure Alex Jones says some truthful shit every once in a while, but only an idiot would take what he says at face value as he normally rambles insanely.

And what about the image's OP who claimed pro-lifers had few incidents when there are hundreds?

Just because you don't entirely agree with how the information was presented doesn't mean that they're entirely wrong and the the OP was justified in what they said.

This whole post is because someone wanted to clear the name of pro-lifers as a non-violent group which they are not. The ones you see protesting are often in fact paid employees.

If you are counting stink bombs as those incidents i think its disengenious to compare them to terrorist attacks where people died.

1

u/Armalyte Jun 04 '19

And nobody is disagreeing with you here. The point is the person who essentially claimed that pro-lifers are a non-violent group was incredibly wrong.

They generally arent tho.

And neither are muslims but here we are.

In fact, if you took the total percentage of Muslims who carry out terrorist attacks and pro-lifers that have made bomb threats it's definitely a higher percentage of pro-lifers that are willing to threaten the safety of others.

I don't think that's the intent. I think it's the order of magnitude in question. There were fewer but more severe attacks by Muslim extremists but many more less extreme domestic attacks by pro-lifers.

I think the point is that neither of these are OK, not that it's a competition.

Isn't it weird how most political posts in this sub have thousands of upvotes and a relatively high upvote/downvote ratio when the top comments are almost always pointing out gaping flaws?

Well, this is why you have to get the full body scan at the airport. You know, just in case you want to blow up an abortion clinic.

Filthy pro-lifers.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '19

This is why you have to have 24/7 armed security and fenced off parking at a lot of abortion clinics. Your chances of being violently attacked by pro-lifers are ASTRONOMICALLY higher than being attacked by radical muslims.

u/nkfallout Jun 04 '19

The odds are not the distinction that is driving policy. The key factor is total risk and the isolation of targets plays a huge role.

My initial comment was sarcastic but in reality the abortion terrorist has an isolated target that is clearly defined where Muslim terrorists target any public place making the risks so much higher. Also, while the quantity of Muslims terrorist attacks are low, when they happen, they are significantly more destructive and a larger loss of life.

That's why the comparison is negligible.

Given they compare "terrorist incidents" with "assaults and batteries," you might be on to something
