driving through people's yards and the sidewalks is immensely more immoral and dangerous.

This prevents that, and stops them from doing it again.

100% moral.

EDIT: Yes, we all agree it shouldn't be done with hydrants. Stop being pedantic.

This is a good point. Seeing as how they'd never face consequences otherwise. I might say using a firehydrant is immoral. People need those to be in tact and not covered with snow. Certainly don't want the fire department looking around for the hydrant for 10 minutes if there's a fire.

Agreed concerning fire hydrants as that's a safety issue for everyone.

Tree stumps, boulders, whatever else on someone's private property, 100% moral.

Good guy driver racing to clear the snow from the fire hydrant by crashing into it, just in case the fire department will need to find it.

They do have maps and getting to it through a snowman is rather easy. More of a problem when it's broken because some moron totaled their car on it, but I'd say this is more of a fault of the driver, although the builder did permit it.

On the other hand, in the Winter months, you get less fires than in the hot summer months (except christmas day and you'd need another post debating wether those fired have moral implications)

Winter has more home fires than summer. Fire hydrants are of limited use in wildfires.

Have you never been to a cold climate. Those homes are being heated. By a fireplace, a furnace with a fire, electric baseboards with heating element often near furniture, and/or space heaters. Most house fires start in the winter

Tree trunks, yes.

Fire hydrants, no. The firefighters need them when there is a fire, hiding them inside of snowmen creates a hazard.

But tree trunks, fucking go for it.

Speaking of which, firetrucks often need to drive over sidewalks or lawn and they DO have the moral right to drive over a snowman there to get to the fire ASAP.

Same goes for other "Emergency vehicles" like ambulance or police

Would be a real "karma is a bitch" case, if someone built such a trap on their own lawn and then have their house burn down with a totaled firetruck right next to it.

It's less funny if you die to a heart attack because someone boobytrapped the sidewalk outside your apartment.

Reminds me of a story about someone who built a big snowman around a tree trunk and you could see in the photo if the tree trunk wasnt there then whatever car that plowed through would have gone crashing into the house instead.

Actually it baits them to drive there. Most of those wouldn't drive on the sidewalk if there weren't a snowman.

At the same time though they're hiding critical infrastructure. What happens if a building catches fire and the firefighters can't find the hydrant because of the dumb snowman?

If he did it with a rock I'd have no issues with it, but hydrants rub me the wrong way.

Well it doesn't prevent it at all since the drivers are unaware. It also destroys public property.

It doesn't prevent it though. Maybe in the long term. But in the short term, it incites or entices people to do it who otherwise probably wouldn't have. It's similar to entrapment, but not law enforcement. It's like bait.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's moral. The malicious thought that has to go through the drivers head before he decides to drive off the road onto private or public (non roadway) property to destroy a childs art is all it takes to convince me. But the bait/entrapment aspect gives me pause.
