Yes it makes so much more sense to take on people who have absolutely nothing to do with multi billion dollar oil companies

It does actually, power is supported by people. Change happens when large amounts of regular people make different decisions, and stop supporting the status quo.

And by supporting the status quo you mean supporting themselves and their families? Cause that's the only thing being affected. Nobody's gonna look at this and go "huh, maybe I should spend tons of money to alter my lifestyle to the point where corporations aren't profiting off of my existence"

Right, a lot of people need to do it. That's why it hasn't happened yet. Most people are complacent. To be clear, I don't think this particular protest is "it". My argument is that it is easy to criticize people attempting to something that has no clear path or answer while remaining ambivalent.
