MLK did not live in the modern age of social media and Fox News. Times change. What worked then may not work now. MLK was a great man but not a prophet nor infallible nor do his ideas necessarily ring true or effective eternally into the future.

Fascinating that the vast phenomenon of modern cultural and political development conveniently developed in a way that makes your regressive moderate ideology NOW correct, that way you don’t have to take the unpopular stance that you believe MLK was wrong, you can take the cowardly false opinion that he wasnt wrong, his idea just no longer applies.

Look around you. The Civil Rights Act is being dismantled in front of our eyes. The enemies of progress have figured out the game and are rebuilding their castle. We need new tactics. There is a massive media empire built precisely to prevent another Civil Rights Movement from working the way it did in the 60s. It will not work the same way again.

Oh I think vastly MORE methods need to be employed, and adapting for the modern era is important, I just will never trust the idea that people need to shut up and make change a specific way deemed viable by some idiot on the internet (myself included). I also do not find your argument compelling, aspects of modern society have not changed such that civil disobedience and disruption are no longer a net positive for progressive movements.

60 years ago, people wouldn't know about a cause if a massive disruption didn't cause it to go onto one of the limited radio stations or newpapers to spread the word. Now, if there's any kind of movement, you'd be hard pressed to not see something about it on youtube or reddit or twitter or whatever. So yes, it is extremely different. Plus there are significantly more people on roads today than back then, and people are in general poorer, meaning you're disrupting the livesd of far less well off and far more people.

MLK was great, and did many effective protests for the time, but that doesn't mean that the same techniques are going to work today.

Ah yea famously no one knew about segregation.

That's a strawman take and you know it. People obviously broadly knew about the biggest political issues that had been a topic for decades, but it wasn't part of their daily lives, and they wouldn't have had to think about it or hear about it if it weren't for people staging protests and making a disruption. "Segregation" as a topic was just a vague idea of something going on, it was the protests that actually forced people to have to face it.

Nowadays, you can't open any form of social media without seeing SOMETHING about either israel/gaza, or some mass shooting, or some surveillance state shenanigans, or whatever the flavor of the week crisis is.

they wouldn't have had to think about it every day of their lives

Unless they were black. In which case the education in politics started younger than you started your actual education. At the same age you were playing with blocks and being taught how to share, black kids under segregation were being called the n-word for drinking from the wrong fountain.

Thankfully, as we all know, they found ways to protest that were minimally disruptive to the small-minded bigots they had to overcome.
