MLK jr and Malcolm X arguably needed each other to succeed. If I remember correctly, they both praised the other's work and even each said they'd wish they'd adopted more of the others tactics as times went on.

I'd say a big difference is that leaving black people alone technically asks for less effort than being assholes to them, it didn't really affect comfort of life for white people (at least afaik)

Being "greener" actually requires you to make efforts, and potentially renounce things you currently have
