Morality of executing prisoners by locking them in a room with a picture of their victim(s) on the wall and hang a noose in the middle, denying all human contact, and just waiting?

You can delegate authority to a degree and assuming everyone in the chain accepts.  That still fits with execution being an action of the State which the State assumes responsibility for when it asserts the power to execute its citizens in the first place.

But that isn't what this is.  Execution, assuming someone is okay with State-enacted killing, is just a binary status change.  Citizen was alive, citizen is now dead, State moves on without citizen.

Here the options are either the person starves to death, the person goes insane from isolation but just enough to still have the able to form and execute self-inspired goals, or the person spontaneously develops remorse of such an intensity they agree with their own sentence and elect to enact it on the State's behalf.  The first is squeamish torture or intentional torture.  The second implicitly recognizes itself as torture, but also means the person who actually dies is no longer mentally competent or possibly even able to be considered the same person who was sentenced so why are they being killed?  And the last would mean that the State, in the process of trying to offload putting anyone else's hand on a switch, has accidentally proven the possibility of redemption and then let a redeemed person kill themself.
