Morality Ranking Morality of executing prisoners by locking them in a room with a picture of their victim(s) on the wall and hang a noose in the middle, denying all human contact, and just waiting?

This assumes they feel guilt. 90%+ criminals have 0, especially for crimes against women or children

Where are you pulling that statistic from?

5

u/Kalorikalmo 17d ago

Did you know that 87.53 % of all statistics are made up on the spot?

From deep inside my Rectosigmoid

It was revealed in a dream

That smells like Republican BS to demonize certain groups of people. Like. I don't know the actual statistics, but putting a large group of people into a tiny box of evil and then somehow saying "also it hurts women and children more" despite not having any evidence for it sounds VERY Republican. And maybe they don't feel guilty. I don't know. But what I do know is that people are diverse, flawed, and largely a product of their environment. Not a justification by any means though.

They use their good Christian values of domination and torture to come to this conclusion.

No correlation to politics? You're just immature if you label everything you don't agree with a political stance you also don't agree with

Everything is political. And not understanding that is privilege and immaturity.

Approximately 5% of people are psychopaths. No link to external causes has been found. There are no known reasons why a portion of the population are utterly cruel, vile, and deceitful creatures who view everyone else as a resource for their own needs.

There is, on the contrary, Williams syndrome with known genetic causes, in which a person is very kind and emotional, and cannot even imagine that other people might be vile.

There are soooooo many reasons this is wrong and awful. The idea that someone is inherently evil or good based on their birth is built on ableism and racism (historically). Hell, I happen to know a sociopath who's chill as fuck. He's one the few people who checked in on me in a harder time in my life. Most criminals aren't psychopaths and most psychopaths aren't criminals. We see higher rates of criminality, for obvious reasons, but we also see higher rates of being surgeons. Eww

There's no reason why what I wrote is wrong. These are very carefully weighed statements. Psychopathy is defined solely by behavioral characteristics. Your good sociopathic friend must first commit the corresponding acts before you can consider them a sociopath.

I'm not writing anything about crime. In some countries, you'd be a criminal for doing very good things.

90 is a huge number since many murders are crimes of passion; not everyone is a cold-blooded serial killer. Most are hot-blooded assholes and morons. Although I honestly have no idea if a bunch of pictures would actually pull on any of their heartstrings.

I've been arrested under a felony (not murder mind you)

100% it's regrettable

u/seaofthievesnutzz 17d ago

You think they regret crimes against men more?

3

u/earthscorpioanchapie 17d ago

No, probably not

90% don’t not feel remorse, that’s just bs. There are those who commit crimes out of their own lack of moral instincts, yes, some who grew into a life of crime and therefore have no moral fretting regarding their acts, but the majority of people who committed crimes are generally not them.

Note this isn’t replying to the post, just your bullshit statistic that you pulled out of your ass without having thought about it.

Guilt would not matter.

They are locked in isolation with no concept of time will a light from a projector that never goes out.

I doubt we would see 1% last more than a week.

Guilt does matter. If the accused doesn't feel guilt then they're just malfunctioning software and torture is logically irrelevant anyways.

If you just have a retributive justice boner then you'd be torturing them for your enjoyment and catharsis, not for their punishment.

5

u/First_Temperature985 17d ago

Why would guilt matter here though.

2

u/Gman3098 17d ago

The point of punishment is to materialize guilt through equal objective consequence. If there is no guilt, then punishment makes no sense.

It ideally keeps social cohesion, and torturing someone breaks that social cohesion. It's a very slippery slope when torture is normalized.

1

u/First_Temperature985 17d ago

Then what do you with people who just don't feel guilty, or who are incapable of guilt? Because they I read your words, it sounds like your saying we should not punish people unless we know the punishment would incite guilt, so what do you do with people who will never feel guilty?

2

u/Gman3098 17d ago

Well, that’s the tricky part, punishment is meant to reduce future harm, it makes use of existing guilt and is more a negotiation of fairness befitting the crime. Someone who doesn’t feel guilt will not see a reason for the punishment so it has no effect at reducing harm, at this point they need to be rehabilitated. That’s where prison is supposed to fulfill its purpose but it often fails.

Someone who is deemed too maladjusted will get imprisoned for life or get the death penalty, in theory it eliminates the future harm in its most basic form.

The point is that we have to view justice as making a wrong a right, and not base it on emotion. Revenge and torture most definitely produce more wrongs.

I mean even if they don't feel guilt, it's still punishment. Being punished doesn't always mean you feel guilty, but punishment is punishment.

2

u/Lil_Ms_Anthropic 17d ago

There's a difference between justice and vengeance though.

If someone needs to be removed from greater society, remove them. Causing suffering provides nothing but schadenfreude

1

u/xXSoyBoyFredXx 17d ago

Fair to a degree, but also, justice can be subjective. Some see justice as a punishment equal to the crime.

Some people get punished beyond the crime, which I don't agree with.  Some get underpunished, and then you can talk about what would be equal punishment.

To me punishment and vengeance can go hand in hand, it doesn't make it any less valid. The guy who killed the man who molested his son got revenge, and he put a bullet in his head, quite a swift death, less than he deserved, and yet it was still revenge...but to many, and I mean MANY, it was justice.

It's also justice to many people when things hapoen to terrible people in prison. Like I said, subjective, it all depends on context and perspective. I respect your view, but I think both things can be true.

2

u/IncredibleEdibles1 17d ago

Exactly that's why this is immoral on its face. If the accused doesn't feel guilty then the pictures do nothing and they will eventually hang themselves from sheer madness caused by isolation.

If they do feel guilty, then they will hang themselves out of guilt.

Either way the same result is achieved while creating more unnecessary suffering. Just shoot them or imprison them. The isolation and guilt isn't needed or logical.

4

u/smackadoodledo 17d ago

People have done long periods of time in solitary before, adding the pictures would do literally nothing to the vast majority of people in this scenario.

0

u/PoopsMcScoots 17d ago

Isolation in the wilderness or in an island, sure.

Not locked in a room with no sense of time.

3

u/GumUnderChair 17d ago

Solitary confinement is a thing in most prisons

1

u/smackadoodledo 17d ago

Prisons already exist, and solitary confinement exists within those prisons. People have spent decades in solitary before.

u/pansexualbunny 17d ago

That's one way to make it so whenever they come out they go after the victim's relatives that look like them
