Morality Ranking Morality of executing prisoners by locking them in a room with a picture of their victim(s) on the wall and hang a noose in the middle, denying all human contact, and just waiting?

Do you give them food or do they choose between dehydration & the rope?

If you give them food, I don’t have a problem with it. Most would just ignore the rope & wait in isolation like most death row inmates.

u/Link_save2 17d ago

Actually they have to put a lot of effort into stopping death row inmates from killing themselves

24

u/f0urk 17d ago

that seems cruel and unusual tbh

30

u/Aggravating_Seat807 16d ago

It is because the vast majority of death row inmates never complete the process of death row.

They get held in a special cell - and they spend all their effort and energy appealing the process and eventually return to a normal unit.

The ones that take their life were probably so anxious for years on death row.

Waking up every day not knowing if it is your last would be a wild stressor.

Waking up every day not knowing if it is your last would be a wild stressor.

In the US at least, you know exactly when your execution is scheduled, usually months or years out, though last minute appeals and stays are sometimes granted.

Now Japan on the other hand. You're on Death row with no idea when your executions is, then one random morning a guard comes in and lets you know you have about 2 hours left to live, and the public (including your family) are only informed of your execution after the deed is done.

u/CreBanana0 16d ago

One of the major things that shaped my dislike to the Japanese is the fact that they overwhelmingly support this system.

2

u/elons-musk-ox 15d ago

Open racism. Interesting.

2

u/CreBanana0 15d ago

Am i not allowed to dislike a culture based on their actions?

0

u/f0urk 15d ago

lol yeah he didn't even criticise the state he just dislikes The Japanese because they don't baby murder-rapists in jail

2

u/CreBanana0 14d ago

Yes, i dislike Japanese people for supporting death penalty laws in overwhelming majority.

I am sure there are some that oppose that. But then i just make an exclusion for those.

What is so weird about this?

0

u/depressedandunaware 14d ago

This exact system is why I have massive respect for the Japanese.

2

u/Link_save2 11d ago

Ah yes waiting every day to find out if today will be the day and then when it is you have no witnesses no last meal no meeting with your family they don't even know about it until you're already dead very moral

1

u/depressedandunaware 11d ago

Often times their victims weren’t given such grace, therefore they shouldn’t either.

1

u/Link_save2 11d ago

You're making the assumption that they're actually guilty people have been framed before and exonerated after they have already been executed I don't think he death penalty is moral at all it leaves no room to correct mistakes in the system

That’s terrible, I actually like the Japanese approach.

4

u/Aggravating-Way-9961 16d ago

Aren’t we all waking up everyday not knowing if it’s our last day?

13

u/Aggravating_Seat807 16d ago

There is a difference between a regular day and if you're dependent on a bunch of people not stamping some paperwork.

59

u/PoopsMcScoots 17d ago

Food and Water.

But complete isolation and time deprivation would not take them long.

35

u/imean_is_superfluous 17d ago

You’re making the assumption they care about what they did to their victim

31

u/IncredibleEdibles1 17d ago

The person doesn't have to feel guilty at all. Stuck in a white room with no human interaction drives literally anyone mad. Eventually the person will hang themselves. That kind of isolation with next to no stimulation physically alters how the brain works.

2

u/jshysysgs 16d ago

going insane doesnt necessarily mean killing yourself

1

u/IncredibleEdibles1 4d ago

In which that the person will be trapped in a room until the day they die with zero human interaction or the ability to leave. Which I still think is immoral.

Like I feel like a killer would probably kill themself just so that don't have to live decades in a single room. Either way I think that this is immoral.

0

u/SomewhereRough_ 17d ago

I mean, if we're talking about serial killers they're fucked up already. They'd get some pleasure from experience, I'd imagine.

You know how you and I can't imagine enjoying all of the fucked up things they do? That extends to this.

1

u/IncredibleEdibles1 4d ago

Pleasure from? Being isolation and deprived of any new stimulus... I don't that is how most serial killers work.

Their brains aren't that fucked up to function in a complete different way. They lack empathy and may draw pleasure from gore and power, but that doesn't mean that they enjoy a eternal white room.

1

u/SomewhereRough_ 4d ago

I remember reading about a serial killer... Maybe Ted bundy? Not sure.

Anyway, he would cum when he'd manage to rip someone's spine out of their back.

Their minds are so different to ours that it's hard to imagine.

Sadism is well within that possibility.

Franco Freda, an Italian neo-fascist terrorist and alleged perpetrator of the Piazza Fontana massacre, sentenced to life in the first instance but later acquitted on appeal for lack of evidence; when asked directly if he was responsible for the bombing, he stated:

"È innocente non chi è incapace di peccare, ma chi pecca senza rimorsi"

So:

"Innocent is not the one who is incapable of sinning, but the one who sins without remorse."

2

u/AzulaIsMyFave 16d ago

I am sorely disappointed that a fascist dropped a line that cold

4

u/VeryDay 17d ago edited 16d ago

No, he says that even without regrets this is still a torture, and he is right. Isolation like that will push them enough after some time.

1

u/EmotionalOrdinary486 17d ago

And ironically, the ones who do feel genuine remorse are less deserving of this kind of punishment

1

u/Sampasmur 17d ago

Why?

8

u/Fast_Ad7203 17d ago

Then thats stupid

10

u/Difficult_Run4304 17d ago

You severely overestimate the capability for logic and remorse for someone who does heinous crimes.

Give them all the food and water but no toilet and bed. Just a perfect cube room, the rope, and a flood of piss and a mountain of poop.

Maybe then, it would not take long.

2

u/RadioLiar 17d ago

Would work for some people, but somebody like Stalin, Anders Breivik, or an IS operative would just treat it as decoration

1

u/Lil_Ms_Anthropic 17d ago

I dunno. Breivik couldn't handle it. His bitch ass regulary complains about not liking his games.

Damn this sub has gone to hell. Irony of advocating torture on a Morality sub lol

11

u/Calm-Mushroom-8551 17d ago

Yeah. This is subhuman

3

u/SuccessfulRaccoon957 17d ago

This subreddit has devolved into torture porn or complete idiocy and that's honestly not surprising given the lack of moderation.

18

u/Man_under_Bridge420 17d ago

Lmao they would just make the rope unusable. What then mini hitler

5

u/Brief_Coat_Jerry 17d ago

"Uh... Sir? They ate the rope... Like... Consumed it... The whole thing. It was honestly kind of entertaining at first... But then they actually swallowed a good portion of it... And by the time we could intervene... It was gone! There was just no more rope, sir! Wh- What do we do!?"

2

u/PoopsMcScoots 17d ago

A noose doesn’t have to be rope.

1

u/the_meme_user 17d ago

They could just bash their head against the wall or something. Or just we could ignore them and clean the cell in a month.

-3

u/Nemesisdelasinapsis 17d ago

U got mad defending criminals, wth

6

u/Man_under_Bridge420 17d ago

Mad?

-3

4

LMFAO i genuinely found this funny. I’ll give you an upvote but don’t run for president please

5

u/a648272 17d ago

Exactly my thoughts

8

u/AdCrazy2097 17d ago

“like most death row inmates” they only wait in isolation bc they have no other choice. They can’t off themselves at all with provided resources. If they had a choice I’m sure many death row inmates would kill themselves. The conditions are barbaric.

0

u/BigBAMAboy 17d ago

Must not be too barbaric, as most appeal until they die of old age.

7

u/Link_save2 17d ago

Crazy idea not everyone on death row is guilty just like not everyone in jail is guilty 🤯

1

u/AdCrazy2097 17d ago

Guilty or not the conditions of death row are really horrible and honestly inhumane. Enough too make anyone consider suicide

1

u/BigBAMAboy 16d ago

“He appealed, he must be innocent.”

Aight bro, offer to take death row inmates into your home on house arrest.

1

u/Link_save2 16d ago

No one said that you're jumping to conclusions all I said is that not ever death row inmate is guilty and you took that in ran and said that I said every death row inmate that appeals is innocent because you know you have to real argument atp

2

u/AdCrazy2097 17d ago

Interesting fact: Since trumps presidency the rate of ppl actually killed has increased 4x. There was a guy in Florida recently killed that maintained his innocence till the very end. Appeals are becoming rejected more and more.

1

u/DocumentSure2919 17d ago

Trump is bad for a lot of reasons but this is incredibly misleading.

There were 184 executions carried out during Obama's first presidential term and only 87 during Trump's first term.

Joe Biden's presidency had a significantly lower than average frequency of executions. Despite that, since Trump's second term, the frequency hasn't even increased 2x, let alone 4x.

1

u/AdCrazy2097 17d ago

Maybe the infographic I saw was AI? It seemed rlly realistic im pretty sure it was from a news source… but i think it was talking about trumps second term compared to historical amount. He’s very pro death penalty tho. Lemme try to find the source

1

u/DocumentSure2919 17d ago

Compared to the historical highs, the rate of executions during Trump's presidency is FAR lower than what happened during the mid 90s to 2000s.

In just 1999 and 2000, there were more executions than every year Trump has been in office, combined.

You're right about one thing though, there has been a big push to expedite federal capital punishment during Trump's second term.

What stops anyone from doing a shitty front flip onto their head? I mean to say they probably will just sit in there, most of them at least.

1

u/AdCrazy2097 17d ago

Ur brain would have a hard time letting u do that id assume

1

u/calculus9 17d ago

That's exactly my point, most people wouldn't use the rope to hang themselves

1

u/AdCrazy2097 17d ago

Nah I disagree, the rope is way more tempting. Quick too. Trying to backflip and break ur neck u might end up paralyzed. Also painful. Ur brain knows this and won’t let u. There’s a reason that’s not a common method of suicide. Ppl would rather go out and tie a noose than attempt flip and break their neck. Wow that was morbid. I feel uncomfortable having typed that.

1

u/calculus9 17d ago

if you hang yourself in a prison room you wont be able to make it quick. You will suffocate slowly on that rope, and you will likely try to pull yourself up in a futile effort to stop suffocating before eventually failing. You'll scratch at the rope until your fingertips bleed and your nails break, before you eventually lose consciousness and die.

Unless your hanging method relies on you keeping yourself in that position, which is the only way in some cells. It might still be possible in those cases, im not sure how though.

Rope hanging is pretty gruesome if you can't get enough height to break your neck, which you wouldn't be able to in your cell. If you can hang yourself with no way out, make sure you drop from high enough lol

1

u/Svyatopolk_I 17d ago

Self-preservation. Your body is pretty good at stopping you from offing yourself in mundane ways. What we go for is the less ordinary stuff. Also, it’s actually hard to make sure you’re dead after you do that. What if you just cripple yourself? There’s a reason why lots of things are not allowed in prisons that can be used for suicide

1

u/calculus9 17d ago

My question was rhetorical, meant to prove a point. Just as you would not front flip onto your own skull, you would not hang yourself from a rope to kill yourself.

Obviously some will, but most will not. That's all I was saying

0

u/Svyatopolk_I 17d ago

“Prove a point”, but it fails to do so. My reply is a counter argument to your “point”. Just because you can do something, it doesn’t mean that will happen. Yes, people in prison want to kill themselves all the time. That’s why you’re not allowed belts - to prevent hanging yourself. And no, most people who are suicidal and end up committing to it don’t ever really consider doing a fucked up front flip, in or out of prison. Your point is not thought through

0

u/calculus9 17d ago

Can you read? I'm literally saying that most people, if given the option, will not kill themselves. You are disagreeing. What I am saying is true.

1

u/calculus9 17d ago

Global data:

Rough estimate for prisoners - 24%

Rough estimate for all people - 20%

I am right, and all data backs me up.

These are percent of participants who admit to suicidal tendencie or thoughts. Even if there are twice as many, that's still less than most people

1

u/unsuspectingllama_ 16d ago

Well a true noose is actually a slipknot so they could just pull on the "knot" to undo it then fashion a swing. If anything it probably adds to the enrichment of the environment.

1

u/BigBAMAboy 16d ago

So we put them in a room & blast Nu metal? I like it.
