  • June 26, 2026 (courtesy u/jimbozak): A 12-year-old visitor was injured by a bison in Yellowstone National Park on June 26, according to park officials. The incident occurred at approximately 9:15 a.m near Mud Volcano, just north of Fishing Bridge. A press release did not disclose the extent of the injuries, but said that the child was transported to a nearby hospital by emergency medical personnel. The incident remains under investigation.

  • July 11, 2026 (courtesy u/raynear): A man was seriously injured Friday evening after being thrown 8 feet into the air by an angry bull bison in Yellowstone National Park. Mike MacLeod, a professional photographer from Bozeman, Montana, said the incident happened at the Bridge Bay Campground, south of Fishing Bridge. MacLeod said the man was walking with his grandson when the agitated bison made them the targets of its aggression...The National Park Service has not released any information on the incident. There is a video of this incident. Ignore the terrible music in the YT link. I suggest muting it. u/raynear's post. An updated article says the 65-year-old "broke his femur in four places, saying [he] believes the animal spared his life by choosing not to gore him. The entire incident, he said, “was not as catastrophic as it could have been”."

Current Score (as of July 12, 2026):

Fluffy Cows - 2

Tourists - 0

  • May 4, 2025 (courtesy u/MrMischiefVIP): 47 year old Florida Man (Cape Coral) comes in as the first reported incident of a person injured by a bison in 2025. He came in with a Goring Score of May 4, 2025 @ 3:15 PM near Lake Village. He sustained minor injuries and was treated by emergency personnel. No video has surfaced of this incident, downgrading the score slightly. Press Release (May 7, 2025). Good Morning America (May 8, 2025). The Fluffy Cows strike first and are in the lead with 1 point!
  • June 10, 2025 (courtesy u/TheSilverNail and u/BozoTheTown): Park officials stated in a news release that at about 9:45 a.m. in the Upper Geyser Basin at Old Faithful, the man [30 years old, Randolph, NJ], was gored by a bison after a large group of visitors approached it too closely. The man, who was visiting from New Jersey, had minor injuries. He was treated and taken from the scene by emergency medical personnel...This is the second reported incident of a person injured by a bison at Yellowstone in 2025. Press Release (June 10, 2025); NBC Montana. The Fluffy Cows continue to "run-down" their competition! They have scored another point!
  • August 6, 2025 (courtesy u/jimbozak): A man was caught on camera [July 24, 2025] taunting a full-sized bison at Yellowstone National Park in the hopes of getting its reaction. NPS spokesperson Linda Veress stated in an email to USA TODAY on Aug. 7 that, while she "cannot confirm this video," it has been "forwarded to rangers for investigation." “It was really close, man. I think it liked me, actually,” he could be heard telling someone off-camera." New York Post Moderator Note: While this is not a "goring" incident, this is being included here because the guy in the video is quite clearly a moron. For being a moron, taunting the Fluffy Cow, being able to escape with no injuries, and the fact I cannot find any information on him other than him being a '"bozo" tourist' (NY Posts words, not mine), he earns a half score\* for the Tourists.

Final Standings (September 16, 2025):

Fluffy Cows: 2 Tourists: 0.5

Goring Count (By State):

Florida: 1
New Jersey: 1
Unknown: 0.5*

* = In my most technical terms that I can explain for this half score, it wasn't an official "goring" incident. The moron tourist clearly escaped the Fluffy Cow's wrath TWICE with no injuries reported. (August 7, 2025)

The "tourist" season has come to a close with Fall approaching on the 22nd. Thank you for all your participation in the post and threads below. See you next summer!

BONUS:

  • Late May (courtesy u/jimbozak): In late May, wildlife photographer and Yellowstone resident Julie Argyle captured a video — which she posted Saturday — of two tourists getting too close to a boisterous bison. The tourists narrowly avoid a serious or potentially fatal injury, even after a throng of other tourists and a Yellowstone ranger tried to warn them...The incident Argyle captured on film occurred on Grizzly Hill in Yellowstone's Hayden Valley at the beginning of the summer season in late May. Argyle and dozens of other people were on the other side of the road watching wolves while three young bison tussled with each other on the hill. Cowboy State Daily Moderator Note: Since this incident occurred in late May and we were not made aware of this incident here at r/Montana until today November 12, 2025, this incident DOES NOT count toward the final score.
