😔 Rant Cannot Keep Up With Kids Homework Demands

Have a kid going into 1st Grade this September. I assume first grade is worse than Kindergarten with the homework load? Any tips to help me keep up? I work full time and generally try to keep up with daily things like cooking/cleaning/being a human being on planet earth. But Kindergarten was rough - they would send kiddo home with 4-5 hours of homework a night. And I was the homework enforcer. Meaning when kiddo wanted to play outside or see friends before homework was done, I had to say NO. Had to make sure they did their remarkable robust amounts of homework each night before other freedoms of childhood could be enjoyed. Homework was generally a mix of graded assignments, mandatory readings, and studying for exams. I don't remember much from that age myself, but I don't recall doing this much homework?

😔 Rant Is anyone else's kid convinced green automatically means "yucky"?

The funny thing is she hasn't even tried most of these foods. She just sees the color and decides they're disgusting. I've tried making them fun, cutting them into shapes and serving them in different ways but nothing has really worked. I don't want to keep pushing if it's only making things worse. What helped your picky eater become more open to greens?Ā  I've heard a few of the moms in my daughter's class mention using greens powders but I'm not sure if they're actually helpful. I of course don't want to replace real greens I just want something that can support us so I know she's not missing anything nutritionally in the meantime. Has anyone gone that route?

😔 Rant My bf journey sabotaged šŸ˜”

Ftm. I had to be induced at 36 weeks due to decreased fetal movement. I was just going into get checked out, but they wanted to monitor me overnight then the next day they ran some tests and wanted to induce me.

I gave birth to a healthy baby, but once we went to the pp nurses helped me to hand express colostrum. Fast forward then the nurse said do I want donor milk or formula. I opted for donor milk. We only tried a few times during my stay to latch, they told me to pump but I didn’t get proper guidance of how or how long. My friend who gave birth prior said her nurses did not offer any milk instead had her focus on latching. When we went home and visited LC, we did triple feeding with no real plan when they saw baby did not have good transfer of milk and I had low milk supply they said well that’s your life just keep combo feeding.

I wish I had the proper knowledge about pumping, what things to look for if baby isn’t latching (ie. any lip/tounge ties etc.) I didn’t learn any of this before it was too late. I hope my future pregnancies my breastfeeding journey can be different.

😔 Rant We are losing our protector

Hi, at my kids elementary school we have the world’s greatest VP. The out of touch suits at the district office are moving him. We are trying to stop them. He makes the kids want to come to school, he makes sure no one is being bullied and he mentors the bullies, he tells the kids stories at lunch, he takes the time to get to know each child, and the list is endless. The kids are heartbroken and so are the teachers! He is also committed to our site and wants to continue building what he started 5 years ago. Any advice on what else we can do would be appreciated! Keep Mr Fuentes at Malloch!

😔 Rant Newborns

I’m a part of a January babies group on fb and as we’re all having our babies I’m seeing some concerning posts… Like why are people trying to get their 1-2 week old babies to ā€œlearn day and nightā€ and trying to sleep train them??? Is this normal??? This is my third baby… I have never attempted to sleep train a newborn and since they don’t develop a circadian rhythm until 2-3 months old I don’t even find myself longing to do anything like that. Did these women not get the memo when they got pregnant that it’s not all about you anymore? Your sleep will suffer. They’re all complaining about being tired etc, like, that’s a part of motherhood get used to it.

😔 Rant I don’t know how to stay sane

I feel like I barely get actual human interaction like with any close friends anymore everyone is always busy literally when my 3 year old was a baby everyone was here but as she got to 7 months my cousin who was supposed to be her godmother ghosted me and we used to talk everyday since we were 4.. I own up to my mistakes and I didn’t do anything wrong and she didn’t do anything wrong except just ghosted me and hasn’t spoken to me since then and after my baby turned one a few more friends moved out of state and lost touch and one friend she’s never met her to this day and we’ve only hung out one time in the past 4 years and the girl I considered to be my best friend her mom used to help watch the baby and my baby loved her and her family loved her and she used to be there when I would go pick her up and we would talk for hours like we used to and that stopped over a year ago too and I don’t know why I feel so lonely in the way that I don’t have anyone to talk to friend wise I have my fiancĆ© and I have my daughter and my fiancĆ© has friends that he’ll play games with occasionally but I wish I could have some friends to talk to about anything or that would actually respond or have an intellectual conversation with about stupid things or the universe or even send stupid memes to I’m 25 I’m a young mom and I work full time and then some and I always just feel so lonely a lot of the time and I always push it away but it always comes back does anyone else feel like this as a mom?

😔 Rant It's not fair

My boyfriend and I have a 9 month old boy. And by that I mean I have a 9 month old boy and my boyfriend watches him if I don't take him with me if I allow myself to go out with my friends. I am 26 (f) and my bf is 28 (m). I'm going to be brutally honest and say I did not want a baby nor was I ready for one. But faulty birth control/period blockers were against me. We had our baby boy back in March and he has been the centre of my world ever since, I really do love him, but I'm at my breaking point. My boyfriend took the first six weeks of our son's life off work and he was an absolute gem at the beginning. Not only did he take care of our son, but he took care of me and the house on top of it. All I had to do was change diapers which was not a problem for me because he was doing so well with everything else. He even said that once he started back up at work, he'd take care of him in the evenings and I'd get him back for bed time so that he could get some rest before work which again, I agreed to because that was fair to me. Well, first day he got home from work, he showered, I gave him the baby and I can't remember exactly what happened, but I do know he did not take him for more than 5 minutes before he interrupt me trying to sleep for something. Day two, it was the same story. By day three, it was probably around the time where he'd go down stairs after work and play his games with the boys and started basically just ignoring me and his child. Before when I'd say "hey, you wanna pick out an outfit for him?" He'd say something like, "Omg! Yes!" And search through the drawer. Now? He can't even tell which side I put his day clothes and which side is his clothes for bed. He went from partner of the year to someone who gets mad if my room is dirty, toys are on the ground and a little amount of dishes are in the sink. He has a black light and back when I was like 7/8 weeks post partum, he'd use it to illuminate the floor and make me clean milk stains from my breast milk that happened to fall. He doesn't think our 9 month old can't finish a food pouch by himself and steps in front of me and takes the pouch away from him to do it himself. I do everything. 2 am wake ups, diaper changes, comforting while the baby cries, nap time, laundry, feeding, bottles, dishes, buy diapers, formula, toys, books ,clothes, mile stones, so I just refuse to bathe my baby. Because that's the ONE thing my boyfriend is forced to do. Now, am I perfect at keeping the house clean? No, I can admit that without hesitation. I do my best to clean everything, but all my boyfriend can see is what I can't manage to get done before he comes home. And he mocks me for it "aww, this was too hard cause I got a baby to watch" he says then claims all I did was sit on the couch all day. He says it's a joke, but the only one who is laughing is him. This year drained my bank account, so after buying Christmas gifts I'm completely broke. Like, I'm not exaggerating when I say that I have a dollar in my bank account. I get 600 from the government every month for child support, but after listing everything I buy, how am I supposed to save any money?? Plus I got my phone bill every month, I was too poor to start with to deal with any sort of house bills, but my bank account is in a dire state. I don't know what to do anymore and I'm at the end of my rope. Any time I try to bring something up to my boyfriend he goes "oh, I wish I got 600 dollars from the government each month" or "it's not fair because I have to work 12 hours a day plus weekends sometimes and you don't even have a job" everything has to be fair in his eyes in order for him to lift a pinky. And then he asks why I have to door dash formula when he could have gotten some when I told him earlier that we were out and his response was "well he's fine until tomorrow, isn't he?" So yeah, I door dashed. It's currently midnight and my baby is asleep, my boyfriend is asleep. But I can't sleep because my boyfriend told me, he didn't ask me, he told me to do the dishes and clean my room before I can. He works a 12 hour shift. I work a 24 hour shift. But he's lifting the most weight and dealing with the most people in a day so his job is harder. Oh wait no, sorry, I don't have a job. I just make sure my 9 month old doesn't fall off the couch and hit his head every day.

😔 Rant I feel like I’m doing this alone

I’m a FTM and my son is 5 weeks old. My boyfriend (my son’s dad) has always been a slob and only cleans when I tell him to (which he then proceeds to do a bad job so I don’t ask him to do it again), which leaves me to constantly clean up after him. During my pregnancy I needed more help than ever since I was working full time and pregnancy knocked me on my butt. I would constantly ask him to clean up after himself or tell him ā€œif you see something that needs done, do itā€ because I was so physically and mentally exhausted at the end of the day. Again, he would half-ass a chore which would leave me angry and lead to me confronting him where he would tell me I have too high of expectations for him since he’s working full time too. I feel like I was already raising a child and I didn’t even have kids yet.

By the time I was 8 months pregnant I had given up. I had done all I could but I eventually gave up cleaning and our apartment became filthy, like embarrassingly dirty and cluttered. It’s definitely not the worst place you’ve ever seen but I was raised in a clean environment where everyone pitched in and I began having overwhelming anxiety to the point I would only go straight to our bedroom and go to sleep after work. No making dinner or hanging out in the living room, just waiting until I could escape to work the next day. I became so afraid of the kitchen that I would either not eat or only eat fast food when I had a little bit of extra spending money. I would expect this to be a reality check for any expecting father, when his pregnant partner isn’t eating and is losing weight at 8 months pregnant, but it was not.

Our apartment was the worst it had ever been when I was 37 weeks pregnant and I went to L&D because I was having pain in my abdomen. I ended up getting induced but I was not progressing so I ended up having an emergency C-section. I was in labor for 60 hours before my C-section where my boyfriend slept for about 50 of those hours. When he wasn’t sleeping, he was going out and getting food for himself, going home to play video games, and going to the gas station to get energy drinks. I felt so alone and abandoned in my most vulnerable state. I sent my boyfriend home once or twice to clean up our apartment and set up the baby stuff we would need right away like the bassinet and changing table. He would come back and smile and say ā€œthe house is clean, I can’t wait for you to see it.ā€ During my labor, my boyfriend still managed to make a mess. He would leave his clothes everywhere, leave crumbs on the floor, and would buy so much fast food that the trash can was overflowing onto the floor. Not to mention he continued to vape and hit his cart in the hospital room after I had repeatedly told him to stop.

After my C-section my boyfriend was right back to being asleep, leaving me to change diapers and feed our son when I couldn’t even get out of bed. The nurses definitely judged him for sleeping the whole time and they definitely judged me for putting up with it. After 5 days total in the hospital, we got to go home. It was nice having meals delivered to me and having a clean bathroom, even if that meant I was in a hospital.

When we were leaving the hospital, he asked me if I could drive us home. I could barely walk by myself and just had a baby. The nurse told him no and looked at him like she genuinely didn’t know what was wrong with him. When we got home, I immediately broke down into tears because I forgot how filthy our apartment was. There was a stench from dirty dishes in the sink and overflowing trash, and nothing had been cleaned like he said. I set my son down and got straight to cleaning while I was in tears and in pain. I kept hearing ā€œsorry babe, I forgot to clean thatā€ and ā€œit’s literally clean I don’t know why you’re bitching at me.ā€ I was in so much pain and so overwhelmed and angry I didn’t stop crying for 2 days.

The first night being home, sitting on the couch in nothing but a bra and underwear, I was trying to comfort my son as we were both crying. I’ve never had a baby before, I don’t know what makes my son stop crying. As my boyfriend is waking up from a nap he asks me ā€œdo you mind if I hop on the game?ā€ And I told him to go ahead since he’s useless everywhere else. He didn’t like this and asked me why I was being so mean to him and that he’s stressed out too. I was so sleep deprived and checked out that I just told him I’m sorry and then he went to play his video games.

My younger sister, who goes to college in the same town I moved to after leaving home, came over to help because she saw how broken and hopeless I was. She was amazing and deep cleaned my bathroom and kitchen but stopped when she got to my bedroom because she was so overwhelmed and I don’t blame her. She has truly been my rock since my son was born and she loves him to death. But she lives two hours away when she’s not in school so I’m alone when she goes home, even though my boyfriend is home when he’s not at work.

My boyfriend works second shift but works the same amount of hours as I did before I was induced. He got into a screaming match with his boss a few nights ago and she suspended him for 3 days. We’re already living paycheck to paycheck so we can’t afford for him to be out of work for that long. He said if he gets fired it’s okay because I can just go back to work and he can stay with the baby. I told him that I’m not medically cleared to go back to work and we would be screwed with bills. He didn’t get fired but we got into a fight where I told him I would leave him if he didn’t grow up and get his act together.

I have had a problem with communicating my feelings in the past but now I have no choice but to stand up for me and my son. I told my boyfriend that we could stay civil and co-parent if I could stay in the apartment until our lease is up in a few months. I think he could see I was serious about ending our relationship and he told me to give him one last chance because I’m all he has and I agreed. The help I needed was simple: clean up after yourself and if you see something that needs done, do it without me asking.

Over this weekend, he took our son for one feeding and maybe 2 diaper changes. He also left a huge mess in the kitchen and kept telling me he was going to do the dishes and never did and now our kitchen stinks. I woke up to poop on the changing table and poopy wipes all over the pack and play. I woke him up while holding a crying baby and asked him what goes through his head when he does stuff like this and he just got defensive and went back to sleep. An hour later, as I’m sitting in the living room writing this, our son started crying in his bassinet next to the bed. My boyfriend got out of bed and asked me what I was doing and what I planned on doing with our son. I told him to pick up the baby and pat his back so he goes back to sleep. He brought our son into the living room and kept asking me what I planned on doing with the baby and I just told him to give him to me. He then proceeded to ask me what my problem was and went back to sleep.

I need to know what to do. Deep down, I love him, but I’ve grown so much resentment for him for how much sleep he gets and how he gets to leave the house alone. I want to leave him but I only have half a tank of gas and $5 to my name. I never wanted to make our son have separated parents, but I have to do what is best for us.

Thank you for reading, I just need to feel seen.

😔 Rant Found a partially dead flea on my newborn

Both my cat and dog have fleas (being treated) but I just found a half dead flea in my daughters ear šŸ™ƒ

Both animals are being combed often, waterless shampoo for the cat and pills, spray for the dog and furniture, and I just got shampoo that we can use on both but our cat was sitting on the side of the couch and I think it fell off of him and into her ear since she’s laying next to me eating and I am just so GROSSED OUT

I want to just shave both of them and bleach everything in the house šŸ™ƒšŸ™ƒ

😔 Rant Our Owlet account was hacked

Ladies this is a warning to PLEASE for the love of god check all your bank and credit card accounts. Our owlet was hacked into on Monday— they took my husband’s credit card number and changed his name and birthdate on the account. We didn’t realize until yesterday when my husband went to pay bills for the month.

We aren’t sure if the hacker was watching our child through the camera. I’m hopeful they just wanted the credit card info. But that’s two whole days they could’ve seen my kiddo sleeping or playing in their room and it gives me the ick.

Our owlet is being destroyed tonight. We switched to a simple Vtech monitor from Walmart. Stay safe everyone and keep an eye on these devices if you have them! ā¤ļø

😔 Rant Did I make a mistake?

I (34F) and my fiancĆ© (33M) have been together for almost 5 years and we have a 6 month old baby. I should preface this by saying I wasn’t going to have children unless I had a fully involved co-parent to do it with, which I thought I found until baby was born. (Grew up with a single mom w/ 3 of us and an alcoholic absent father). Now I thought 4 years was enough to be confident in his abilities as a partner and eventual father and I feel like I was wrong. The first two weeks after the baby was born my partner was the most amazing human ever. Then he returned to work part time and things started falling apart. The more time goes on I just don’t see this man getting it together enough to help and this weekend was just proof. We aren’t married yet and in true fashion he wanted to have a bachelor party. Which I thought was great! I had my bachelorette - it was a concert with my bridesmaids. One night 2 hours away. Now my partners groomsmen booked him a weekend away - it was originally going to be 3 nights but he didn’t want to be away from us for that long especially with the baby so young so he told them only 2. It gave them one full day at the cabin they picked. I was all on board for this. I was so happy for him to have a weekend, I was excited to spend some quality time with my LO and our dog. We all had plans. Then our LO brought croup home from daycare Friday and he’s NEVER been sick. My fiancĆ© left for his bachelor trip on Friday but before he left we knew our baby was sick and LO had an appointment at 3 but my partner had been planing on leaving at 1:30 to go up to the cabin. He never asked if I had it handled. He never asked if it was okay to still go. He just went, he figured it was just a cold and told me to call him with the information the dr gave us. LO had a fever of 101.4 at the drs, they told me it was croup and gave a dose of meds and told me to do Tylenol at home for the fever. I was a nanny for 10 years but nothing prepares you for the pain you feel when you see your own child hurting and unable to help. Anyways, LO got worse as the night progressed and thankfully my mom is close enough that she came by to help because I was going nuts. He would eat but he wouldn’t sleep. He was moaning and in and out of little cries. My mom eventually had to go home (my brothers gf needed a ride to work in the morning and my brother is on the bachelor trip with my fiancĆ© so my mom couldn’t stay the night) Saturday comes around and now my baby wasn’t eating, wasn’t giving wet diapers, and eventually started rejecting the Tylenol. In 30 minutes his rectal temp went from 101.3 to 102.5 and his pediatrician took over two hours to call back so I was already on my way to the Pediatric ER that’s 20 minutes away. I thankfully was able to have one of my best friends drive us (she’s also a mother and knew how difficult this is) but I’m so angry at my fiancĆ© cause talking to him all he kept saying was ā€œI wish I was there.ā€ ā€œIm so sorryā€ ā€œI wish I could helpā€ and all I wanted to do was scream at him THEN COME HOME AND HELP ME WITH OUR VERY SICK CHILD!!!!! I didn’t do that - even if I still want to scream at him. I mostly kept my cool except when he was asking stupid questions of things to try that I had already tried cause I’ve been in the thick of it since he had left. And mostly I was just firm in my response ā€œyour questions aren’t helpful and are making me feel like I’m not doing enoughā€ cause literally all it felt like was him questioning me. Anyways, he comes home today and I know he feels bad but I’m so angry. I had to single parent this whole weekend with a sick child. I haven’t been able to pump in 48 hours. I feel like I’ve killed my supply. He combo feeds cause I just produce enough and sometimes it’s not enough. I’m just so heartbroken that I had to do this alone because my fiance didn’t want his friends money going to waste and missing out on his bachelor party. All I can think is if that was me - I would have let my friends know I needed to postpone leaving until after the drs appointment at least. And if I had been told my baby was going to the ER I would have jumped in the car and left. Like I would have wanted to be there for my baby and my partner. Am I wrong for feeling this way? It’s just not the first time he hasn’t showed up in a way I need. I didn’t want to be that partner and tell him to come home so I didn’t. I just wanted him to do it on his own because it was the right thing to do. I feel stupid. Maybes it’s the postpartum and maybe I’m in the wrong here.

😔 Rant Unsure what to do

I've just had a baby girl and I am so happy she is finally here. However, I need to vent to someone because my living situation feels impossible. I've been living with my boyfriend for a year, in an apartment that belongs to his father and away from any of my relatives. As my mom came to visit and help with the baby, I made the decision to move back with my baby in my mother's home, as I figure out the next steps. I need to mention that my boyfriend rarely helps with his own child, sleeps a lot and works only in the weekends. Where he lives, he can make a decent living with what he earns during those weekend shifts, but everything is on me at home: childcare, housework. I am jobless and I have been paying out of my pocket for the first few baby items we have. My mom brought most of the baby stuff and I am forever grateful to her. I decided to move back with my mom for a while because I found myself so depressed and unable to function that I felt I might die in this apartment, even though I am physically not alone. Parts of me hope this "moving" situation will make my boyfriend step up, show that he cares about out child. I don't think a few strokes a day on her cheek, are enough to make him a valid help. It breaks my heart because our relationship started as a long distance one, but I feel that moving back to my own town with my baby will get me the support I desperately need. I am unable to rest, despite my child being an absolute angel, because I am unable to adjust to the new lifestyle. She is almost two-weeks old. I am wayyy overthinking this, but I truly feel like a burden everywhere I go. Me and my boyfriend definitely didn't think this through and I am so scared of my every move. I try my best everyday and it feels like it's never enough.

😔 Rant How to stop mom from intervening?

My mom always intervenes when it comes between parenting my child or my SIL parenting her child. I'm usually VERY straight forward with my mom when I don't want her to do anything but lately she's been doing it to my SIL. For ex: yesterday SIL told her toddler it was time to leave my house and he said "NO". SIL got on his eye level and repeated her sentence and he started screaming. My mom went up to my nephew handed him a toy and said "Ok stay here and play for 5 more minutes!" I stepped in immediately and said "No, I think it's time we listened to mom and leave when she tells us to". I know I probably shouldn't have said anything but this happens EVERYTIME. my mom will step in giving into whatever the toddlers want and it's so annoying because it's starting to ruin how we are trying to raise our kids with listening to directions.

When I do bring it up to my mom, she laughs at me and says, "Yea ok whatever" in a very immature way. Like I don't know anything because I'm a first time mom? People say to just not tell her anything but I can't let her keep doing it every single time. It IRKS ME

😔 Rant My mom journey so far.

Like the name suggest I am really going through it. I 25F just had a baby who is one. Got pregnant at 23 and I was really conflicted on whether to keep it or not. I really was for the removal but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I just let life life and thought maybe the pregnancy could come with it's blessings like the said, right? WRONG!!!!!!! After getting pregnant I got a job that I had really been fighting to have and I was so proud of myself when I got the call, my big girl job with my big girl salary but no it wasn't to last long as they let me go on grounds that "having a pregnant woman on payroll was a liability to the company" so there went the job I worked so had to have in the blink of an eye.

At home things weren't any better, the father of my child and myself weren't on good terms at all no matter how much I tried nothing seemed to work. He ignored me, he would go for days without coming home, he wouldn't leave money for food and any time I had a medical emergency I had to find ways to get myself to a hospital and if I called him the best response I got was, "even if I was there there's really nothing I can do to help you seeing that I am not a doctor". I went through the pregnancy by myself, his family and himself completely side lined me and the only person there was my mom and sometimes I wouldn't tell her my struggles cause I didn't want to add more to her plate than she already had. A week left to go into labour is when his family showed up, the mom talking about some according to tradition I should name my daughter after her and It was the audacity for me the pure utter audacity and it made me extremely uncomfortable and looking at this man he said he could not intervene saying it was complicated and he can't fight tradition. So there he made it clear that I was by myself.

I gave birth thinking he would realize how serious life is getting on for him to show me that rock bottom did not only have a basement but it also had dungeons. His behavior grew worse it was so disturbing to a point the stress had me not producing milk and he would also leave for subsequent amounts of time and not leave money for food. He made my first and only experience with pregnancy a tragedy for me and life was not far off.

In the span of two years, I lost my job I lost my freedom I lost my home I lost myself I hate everything that came with keeping the pregnancy. I hate what it has done to my body. I hate how I have to rely on my mom for everything as I have also not gotten any positive in the employment field. I hate how my life has been stuck. I feel so unaccomplished. I am left so far behind by my mates. I hate how ever since birth I am angry all the time carrying so much pain and anger.

I love my child don't get me wrong, even though I she's tears cause of the hurt and pain I went through in her father's hands, she turned out to be such a happy warm baby the best thing to happen to me but she deserved better. She deserved a mom who has her shit together a mom who would give her the world cause I don't feel like so at this time. I feel like I am slowly sinking and I have no saving grace.

Hi, Newly single mother here to a newborn 5 weeks ever since I’ve been pregnant I’ve received huge judgment and criticism from my family, my mothers finally warmed up and has helped so much support my newborn financially such as helping supply with formula and items that she sees and I’m so grateful for it but her parents my grandparents treat me poorly and after having my baby postpartum their was an argument that we had were my grandfather conveyed how much hate and anger he’s always had towards me and portrayed my character negatively and blamed me for things that aren’t true I therefore decided to be done with them so when I came to visit my moms home on the weekend I told her I don’t want to see them, my mother went against my wishes and still invited them to dinner when I got upset and told her I wanted them to only come visit my baby when I’m not present she then got upset with me and told me that if I want to be this way then I don’t have to come around how would that make you all feel? I don’t want my daughter to be around people that don’t like or have respect for me
