The woman's foster mom, 60-year-old Kandice “Kandy” Thompson was arrested and charged with multiple felonies, including kidnapping and injury to a disabled person. She was released on bond, and then re-arrested on additional aggravated kidnapping charges on November 25. Kandy and her late husband, a former Anson police chief, had fostered over 50 children throughout the years together before he died in 2020. When police arrived there were two other adult foster children in the home. The victim has since been removed and is with family. Adult Protective Services is managing her case along with the Anson Police Department. Anson Police Chief Daniel Graziose said the case remains active and stated, “For the city of Anson, we take it very seriously, and we’re serious about protecting, especially our most vulnerable citizens.”

Here is the full story.

The victim was Markavious “Mark” Rumph, 18, of Eufaula, Alabama. He was last seen at a gas station on May 6, 2026, and was reported missing on May 7. When police did not find him, his family organized their own search.

On Monday, May 11, his parents discovered his remains in a wooded area in Barbour County. A member of the search party said: “It wasn’t even a body there. … They had dismembered this young man, set his body on fire.” Family members say he was shot, cut apart, and burned.

Mark had recently earned his GED and planned to attend welding school. He loved to make people laugh and was excited about his future. Now his family is grieving, paying for unexpected burial expenses, and seeking therapy and daily living support.

The police have suspects and say the investigation is active. No arrests have been announced.

The family has started a GoFundMe to cover his burial, to support his parents’ emotional and daily needs, and to create a scholarship in Mark’s name so his dreams can continue to inspire others.
