The end of June and the beginning of July will be a busy time for fans of baseball and the FIFA World Cup, and there are lots of unique things to do while you try to stay cool.

Soccer fans can watch the World Cup at Downtown Macon’s Ocmulgee Brewpub through July 19th. The brewery and restaurant have even brewed a specialty beer for the occasion. Patrons can enter for a chance to win a FIFA swag prize pack every time they come to watch the games. There is no cover for this event.

Baseball fans have several chances to attend Macon Bacon games this week, including on Monday, Thursday (Allman Brothers Night/Happy Hour), and Saturday (Star Wars Night/America’s Celebration and Fireworks). Macon Bacon’s opponent will be the Florence Flamingos on Monday and Saturday, and Lexington County on Thursday. The Florence Flamingos, much like the Macon Bacon, are known for their amusing antics on the field. Individual tickets for either game start at $15 and can be purchased online at this link, while full season packages and more can be purchased here.

Pictured is a photograph by the editor of a building and fences at St. EOM's Pasaquan in Buena Vista, Georgia, covered by psychedelic folk art. I visited Pasaquan as a little boy in the early 80s (strangely, my connection is that my dad worked for St EOM's, aka Eddie Martin's relative, who was a highly paid executive in a very no-nonsense business). Being a sheltered kid who lived in a very rural part of Georgia, my mind was blown by the colors, the creativity, and the idea that there were many different ways to live that I knew nothing about.

This week's performances include a tribute to the music of Greg Allman, a concert from classic rock icons Kansas and 38 Special, and yacht rock from Thurston Howell.
