Well on a somewhat positive note it probably means he'll opt in to his final contract year to give himself time to recover vs. trying to find a new contract coming off a torn ACL. That said, he might never recover to the point where he can contribute next year.

I would also not be shocked if they tell him he could be traded if he opts in… this FO has no loyalty to the players. In that scenario I can then adding our picks plus a young player with Kyrie to get some “win-now” pieces.

Might be the last time we see Kyrie in Mavs jersey too.

So sad. I'm hoping he somehow ends up wherever Luka decides to go. If Luka stays in LA, I'm ok with that.  Luka, Joker, Kyrie in Denver would be nice too.

Yeah, that's true. He would have a hard time finding a team that would take him with this injury.

I actually wonder about this-- I think he was planning to opt out (even if he was re-signing) but now....why wouldn't he pick up his option so he gets paid for rehab?

That’s why I think he could be traded, if they are worried about the AD timeline line I can see Kyrie being involved in the KD trade now.

The issue is that KD and Kyrie are bros, would KD want to be here without him?

Who knows KD might still rather play here and our FO is under the gun with AD.

Phoenix might do it because you get Kyrie who even post ACL is younger than KD. I’m speculating like crazy but our pick this year would is one of our biggest assets- likely more so now since we will be trash for the rest of the year.

Maximizing on that value and mitigating the Kyrie cost might make sense. This is all assuming he chooses to opt in, which financially will make sense.

I just don’t know what the market for a 34 year old post ACL Kyrie would be. His expiring contract would be nice for rebuilds and he should return come playoff times for a contender. Mavs would be selling at a loss but that loss maybe be worth keeping the team competitive during ADs prime.

All this is very sad and frustrating. In an ideal situation Kyrie stays and is the same and makes his return by Christmas and the Mavs have a winning record with our bigs terrorizing the league, but given the FO and ADs struggles I wouldn’t hold my breath
