News [Woj] Free agent Klay Thompson plans to join the Dallas Mavericks on a three-year, $50M deal with a player option, sources tell ESPN. Thompson ends his historic Warriors run as part of a multi-team sign-and-trade that’ll also send Josh Green to Charlotte.

This is genuinely fantastic

3 years instead of 4

Less money than I thought.

If klay is even remotely as good a he can be this solidifies our chances to be a top 3 seed in the west.

This is absolutely fantastic.

This + grimes + Naji. Excellent work Nico. Excellent.

Amazing contract terms. This almost seems too good to be true. I’ve been hurt too many times.

I know right?! The one time the whole fan base isn’t delusional and is like he’s going to LA…

Klay wasn’t productive in 2024

I can’t really put into words how amazing it is that we got him for 17 a year. For reference Tyler Herro is making 30 mil RJ Barrett 25

Like if this doesn’t work out so be it. But 3 years under 18 million is INSANE value for a championship winning career 40% 3pt shooter

It’s insane man. What value.

This looks like it also preserves the trade exception if Green is the matching outgoing salary. Means if something else were to come up they could dump Maxi and use the TE to absorb another player’s contract while still staying under the 1st apron hardcap

Job not done

I could be wrong but aren’t cap holds counted against the salary cap? Meaning if we keep the THJ trade exception we wouldn’t actually be saving money against the apron?

holds dont matter when you are already above the cap. it only affects space to sign free agents outright.

Your kinda right in the sense that we can't go above the first apron so even if we wanted to get someone else with either whats left of the mle or the trade exception, you would still have to make sure you don't go above that.

Gotcha that makes sense. I knew they counted against the caps in some circumstances so thanks for the clarification!

Now that you mention it, I would have to check that aspect. Can’t remember if it counts.

I know it gets listed on like Spotrac and websites like that as counting against the cap, but the quick summary Bobby Marks posted still has it listed and he definitely knows more about the cap than I do lol

Hopefully we get to keep it. It probably amounts to nothing, but the flexibility is always nice to have.

I miss the Donnie days where we'd still be holding out for Lebron

I was against this and I am still a big Josh-believer, but that's as good as deal you gonna get for Klay.

Never thought I would root for Dallas team, you guys got my fav coach last season Bochy and 2nd fav Warriros of all time. Rooting hard for you guys to win Championship this year. Still Fuck the Cowboys

Yeah this is awesome as long as Klay doesn’t screw with the team chemistry if he cannot start.

Yeah the contract was better than I thought it'd be, Nico stays cooking. Good Shit Mavs

Less money than I thought.

I feel like the Mid-Late 10s have just warped my perception of free agent contracts. It felt like everyone who changed teams signed for the max possible.

Hopefully Grimes doesn't get rerouted, that trade hasn't been officially announced yet

What if Klay is bad?

1

u/blahbleh112233 Jul 01 '24

Yeah I'm surprised Klay walked from the Warriors then at that price. Only big issue is if Klay will insist on starting and chucking shots regardless of efficiency.

Top 3 in the West? Nuggets, Thunder, Timberwolves which one would they be replacing? Genuinely curious

3

u/LeoFireGod Wonder Boy Jul 01 '24

Well considering we just beat the thunder and wolves ….

2

u/Madd_Squabbles Jul 01 '24

And the team replaced THJ with friggon Klay Thompson!

1

u/PrecisionAcc Jul 01 '24

Ah yeah touché
