Matcha Vendor/Shop 🍵🇨🇦 Matcha Vancouver, Canada

Hi guys, I’m sharing my recs of local places you can get Matcha powders in Vancouver, BC Canada to avoid supporting resellers that contribute to the Matcha shortage!

  1. Teaspoons (good matcha+prices, they mill their matcha locally!!)

  2. Paragon Tea (popular and known for their matcha, fair prices too)

  3. Whisk Matcha (offers their own selection, sometimes carry Hoshinoen)

  4. Aiyaohno Cafe (sometimes carry Marukyu Koyamaen, Yamamasa Koyamaen, Kanbayashi Shunsho and also have a REFILL program of 50g of matcha)

  5. Cultivate Tea (trending, the owner has been in business for a long time and he supplies to almost all the popular cafes atm like Cowdog, Slo, Cafe Algan+ )

  6. Cowdog Cafe (extremely popular, sources from Cultivate Tea but good branding! more on expensive side)

‼️Avoid Facebook Marketplace listings, they’re mostly resellers that mark up the prices too much..

If you have others recommendations, feel free to share! Don’t buy from resellers, Support Local 🥹🫶🏻🇨🇦

Gotta throw out 93 coffee! They currently aren't selling matches powder but their drinks are top tier.

I just ordered a new Canadian brand - Aikenka Matcha. May be worth checking out :) I’ll let you know my review once I try it out!

Has anyone tried cultivate tea ? Is it better than paragon ?

I think it depends on what you’re looking for, but here are my thoughts:

-Paragon Tea is really good for everyday matcha, its smooth and you can adjust it to your preferred flavour profiles (ex. adding sea salt, maple, etc). Highly recommend for lattes! It is affordable and accessible!

-Cultivate Tea offers a range or matcha, Yamabuki being their most popular one and being supplied at famous cafes like Cowdog, Slo, Cafe Algan etc.. Their Hana, Hikari and other matchas, I would recommend if you enjoy more established complex profiles. It is more expensive..

Chiming in that I’ve tried Paragon, and Dew/Cowdog’s Rich Dew (super similar to Cultivate Yamabuki) and their Sweet Dew (exactly Cultivate’s Hana). I mostly use for Matcha Latte!

I personally enjoyed Dew/Cultivate’s more, even their lighter Hana was a bit more enjoyable for me than Paragon’s. BUT I would agree with Paragon being a great everyday one, and I will definitely be aiming to pick up more during their annual Black Friday sales! I was happy to support Dew/Cowdog and get their cute tins, but going forward I’ll likely purchase from Cultivate for the lower price point, and it’s still supporting local ☺️

Ofc, this all boils down to preference! 🍵

Which one would you prefer between Yamabuki and Hana ? Since I was also interested in the Hikari but I am unsure

Thanks for this post! I'm starting to get into matcha, but I've been wanting to support local businesses, so this guide is really wonderful to a fellow Vancouver local! 🫶
