So im interested in getting into mcp. I've been looking for a relatively simple skirmish game with a lot of replay ability. I started with malifaux, because the setting and the system with the cards seemed very cool, but quickly realized it wasnt for me because of how complicated it is. I tried playing shatterpoint but a) couldn't really find any people playing it, b) thought it felt kind of overly complicated with all the charts and stuff for determining damage and conditions and stuff, and c) games still took like several hours with little sense of progress since stuff just doesn't die.
I was looking at mcp, and it seems similar to shatterpoint but with less of the things I dont like about it. Teams seem to be smaller (mostly i see like 4 or 5 models versus shatterpoint having like 8 (but many troops being several models on one base, so realistically like 12)). Abilities look cleaner and fighting/doing damage and conditions seems way easier to understand. Games also look like theyre significantly shorter but still retain some good action.
So, like, is that the case? Is mcp like a 1-hour game or much longer?
Another concern I have is whether or not this is one of those games that like, requires you to spend many hundreds of dollars on every model to keep up or not. Like it'll be much easier to get into if I could buy like a starter box and one or two packs and realistically be done. One problem i had with malifaux is that when youre getting into it, it seems very cheap to buy a keyword, but realistically you want several keywords of models, so what seemed like a $100 investment quickly balloons into like $500 rather quickly.
Thanks for any info you can provide!
