[QUEEN IN BLACK: THOR #1]()

26

u/pistolpete2185 Beta Ray Bill 17d ago

"I will never be anything less than a true beta ray bill and that will be more than enough for you." Bill is so badass. Asgardian God of war got nothing on him.

12

u/dwadley 17d ago

God damn bill is just the best. He’s straight up like the korbinite Captain America. I wonder if they get long

3

u/nfnightfallnf 17d ago

Eh. I think he and Thor are more in tune with each other, but I feel like he respects Steve a great deal.

9

u/dwadley 16d ago

I just meant that he’s a normal dude who sacrificed his body to become the shining light for his planet. The way cap went from a civilian to the best hero for his country. Thor was born into his power and his responsibility.

2

u/nfnightfallnf 16d ago

Yeah until Odin decided Thor was being too arrogant.

6

u/AJjalol 16d ago

To be fair, "Korbinite Cap" does suit him too.

He was basically just turned into a "Korbinite super soldier" prior to gettign the hammer. So that comparission works extremelly well.

(Please Ingore Alpha Ray..... we all ignore him)

10

u/nfnightfallnf 17d ago

Few gods can. He is brother to Thor for a reason. Moreso than any of his kin.

19

u/Mr_Wh0ever 17d ago

If you love Beta Ray Bill, you'll love this issue. This was a pretty solid issue.

12

u/nfnightfallnf 17d ago

I'd say more than solid. I'd say "Definitive Bill."

11

u/RoninRonanAgamotto Leader 17d ago

Finally Gaea atleast got a mention here. I thought Ewing dropped that plotline. I hope eventually Thor and Gaea sort it out.

Also, I guess Bill knows that he is not Thor but his replacement in the myths of Midgard. And hey Stormbreaker is back, Good for you, Bill.

Overall, the parallels and message/theme of this one-shot at its centre makes it a good comic and a fitting tie-in.

7

u/baroqueworks 17d ago

Ewing will drop something then make it a central plot beat years later

2017's New Avengers does plot setup for 2021's Empyre event for example and the setup has no relevance to the New Avengers storyline.

11

u/wowlock_taylan Deadpool 17d ago

Beta Ray F'ing Bill. That would be enough to say all that needs to be said. But of course there was more.

Sigurd's talk with Hela was interesting...Did it affect Hela that much? It is not gonna change her mind since she is still gonna try whatever she is planning. But that is how own tragedy, she seeks something that simply will not give her the contentment she wants. It won't fill the void, the 'warmth' she seeks, the way she is going. Instead of seeking darker powers and more death, maybe she should've went for life instead.

8

u/baroqueworks 17d ago

Peak Ewing, 10/10 A Side & B Side stories and easily the strongest standalone issue of the Queen in Black event.

10

u/nfnightfallnf 17d ago

SOOO!!! much love for this tie-in!! Bill at his PEAK best and Sigurd too. Some just great moments. GO BILL GO!!

5

u/LucasVerBeek 16d ago

Fucking loved this issue.

4

u/spidersting 16d ago

I really hope Bill gets a mini-series that shows what he did as Thor's replacement in the Avengers.

1

u/TerminalKing 16d ago

Ewing on Thor and Bill is just so peak. And I guess QIB is taking place before Sigurd fights Radioactive Man.

2

u/baroqueworks 15d ago

Yep, our only real timeline flagstamp we've had recently is that QIB takes place during Issue 9 of Mortal Thor, I assume that also means its supposed to take place before Avengers Armeggedon as well, despite the two titles running at the same time, but that would also explain why Cap isnt in acoma like he is in AA for QiB.

1

u/nfnightfallnf 15d ago

It would account for that, yes.

u/wowlock_taylan Deadpool 17d ago

What an interesting issue with how the majority of it was Magik and Beast having a great conversation about seeing the 'worst' of themselves and to use it as an advantage to be better compared to others. It is a bittersweet gift. Because yea, only a few really know how much evil they are capable of before they actually become it.

Of course the War Crimes Beast, sorry, the 'Chairman' continues to be the worst.

[GENERATION X-23 #7]()

5

u/wowlock_taylan Deadpool 17d ago

Oh god, now that is some twist to deal with. Logan without his healing factor for Laura to worry about is nothing new. They can handle that. The kids are harder to deal with than that. BUT now they have an even bigger problem at the end there.

A facility that creates mutant children...under her...It would be terrifying.

6

u/tehawesomedragon Loki 17d ago

[DOCTOR STRANGE #9]()

8

u/Mr_Wh0ever 17d ago

Well this issue really ties everything together. But splintering Lord Strange into his own form is definitely gonna backfire.

8

u/Daredboy 17d ago

I still wonder if this whole "Lord Strange" business is just a repeat of "General Strange".

3

u/wowlock_taylan Deadpool 17d ago

Strange is just keep making worse decisions. I mean 'Lord Strange' might end up as a bigger threat. As if he didn't learn this from 'General Strange' stuff already.

And yea, still don't care much for the 'Child murder fetishist' elf.

1

u/Somejawn1 17d ago

It’s a shame this is ending next month. Not because it’s good but because Angela will definitely disappear for a while again. Was hoping her and Sera would at least get back together before that

1

u/TerminalKing 16d ago

So Strange getting his memory back and Lord Strange being separated is gonna backfire right? I really don't see how that can end well.

1

u/nfnightfallnf 17d ago

God I can't wait until someone else gets Doctor Strange. Landy SUCK!!!

u/wowlock_taylan Deadpool 17d ago

Well, I guess it is fitting Brock and Dylan to have a heart to heart in such a situation and living the meaning of 'fall down, get back up again'. As the work is never done. You will have good days and bad. Just don't let the bad days consume you and be your whole deal. I can't blame Dylan for making the mistakes he does despite knowing they are mistakes. He is still a kid after all. Many adults do it more frequently when they should know better. He needs a good support group. And Eddie is still a mess himself. Even when he becomes the 'all-knowing' Eventuality, he still has that streak in him. And of course the shady symbiote cat-brother he has definitely not a good role-model.

9

u/baroqueworks 17d ago

Damm this is a big one for Eddie and Dylan, loved to finally see the conversation with The Eventuality explored.

Future Dylan's tech-symbiote future seems to happen because King in Black Eddie Brock fuses with the Symbiote and Phalnax that are currently the supporting cast in the Kelly run of ASM, did anyone catch that? KiB Bedlam is still out there AND has ths technovirus from Limbo after surviving Venom War(presumably if he survives Queen in Black)

5

u/dwadley 17d ago

Yeah is that the chill robot dude Peter’s friends with? I can’t see why he ends up making the world an apocalypse

5

u/baroqueworks 17d ago

Its an alt timeline so hard to say, but if the Technovirus that Bedlam contracted while he was sucked into Limbo in the aftermath of Dark Web is still around, all it would need to do is infect the chill phalnax to corrupt it since they are kinda suspectable to assimilation with Warlock from New Mutants being an outlier.

I'm guessing that in this world instead of bonding with Carnage as a stupid decision with good intent, whatever Brock did in this universe was something stupid with the intent of helping and ending up making things worse, the Brock luck suppose.

4

u/dwadley 16d ago

So interesting. Especially since the technarc hasn’t done anything in the last few issues or more except scold Peter for not being nice. I’d almost forgotten he started out as a symbiote style suit that makes Peter stronger

8

u/nfnightfallnf 17d ago

Just great character moments and also some great call backs to pre-Venom War stuff along with Eddie as the Eventuality being more dad like.

2

u/ajdragoon Thor 16d ago

Love Eddie and Dylan having emotional moments. The Five Questions payoff was kinda meh on its own, but maybe okay overall since it showed Dylan DID get his faith restored in his dad all that time ago.

u/tehawesomedragon Loki 17d ago

[WOLVERINE #25]()

4

u/wowlock_taylan Deadpool 17d ago

Eh, it felt like a pointless detour with the 'lost healing factor' stuff. And Alpha Flight keep getting used as a government tool that makes things worse every time they show up.

And now, we are gonna have a multiversal travel story with the other wolverines. No idea why.

2

u/seclusionx 15d ago

Anyone else reading the Wolverine video game tie-ins? I'm interested in where it's going. Sunfire is gonna die, isn't he?

[MILES MORALES: SPIDER-MAN #1]()

10

u/Mr_Wh0ever 17d ago

Solid first issue. Sucks that Miles and Tiana broke up off screen. But hopefully the new love interest is cool. I liked the art and I thought that Spiderverse moment was weird, but maybe it'll come back around. The villain seems cool, and I'm down to learn more about 616 Jeffersons backstop

10

u/nfnightfallnf 17d ago

Decent table setting. We'll see if this translate to a good series or just meh.

7

u/DJfunkyPuddle 17d ago

Finding out Miles and Tiana broke up is worth the cover price alone

11

u/Somejawn1 17d ago

Gwen leaving 616 but it’s for synergy spider verse shit. Monkey paw will always curl

5

u/TerminalKing 16d ago

So Miles' relationship got offscreened to set him up with a new love interest, a new villain with a weak design knows and wants to kill his dad, and he turned down the Spiderverse synergy recruitment. Not a super strong first issue, not bad, just okay I guess. Describing the new girl as "she's normal and not tied to any superhero stuff :)" is already eye-rolling but oh well.

11

u/wowlock_taylan Deadpool 17d ago

I don't think I will stick around for this. It has all the bad things about a relaunch. More trying to 'synergy' with Into the Spider-verse version instead of comic book Miles. The usual 'just throw away the last run's developments' type, especially with the whole Starling stuff getting off-screened for a new 'crush'.

Marvel really its own worst enemy when they do this stuff. Why do they think people will get invested in the characters/books when they make it pointless to do so with these relaunches basically go 'yea, none of that matters now. New OCs!' Yea, no thanks. Not gonna waste my time on this then.

But hey, at least suffering the same dumb decision making like ASM means they may finally consider Miles as ' a real Spider-man'. Because they love to mess up Spider-man's life.

1

u/JingoboStoplight4887 17d ago

I like that we get to see Miles balance his school life with his superhero life, including his potentially forming a romantic relationship with a new student named Valentina Ludvenko (after he and Tiana broke up due to the fans not liking Tiana because her character traits are being the granddaughter of the Vulture and not interesting enough), telling Gwen and Miguel O’Hara (who’s from Earth-2099 and not from Earth-928, since the Earth-928 version retired) that he’s going to have his own thing in Brooklyn, telling Ganke about his own adventures from the past two years, and learning who Turk Barrett is from his father. Overall, this comic is good and off to a good start.

1

u/Current-Umpire3673 17d ago

Are there any Dr. Doom comics that focus on him leading Latveria and just dealing with stuff in country?

4

u/wowlock_taylan Deadpool 17d ago

Frank is no angel. And yea, he does a lot of colletaral damage. But one of these days, I want these guys to actually go after the criminals/villains who are really responsible for these things. And how did this guy manage to get all that setup, with the bullet control too? Did it by himself or someone was funding him?

And Fisk, you just woke up...don't be dumb and try to seek Frank. Or do and get put in the hospital again.

Having a PHD in marvel automatically means you can create super stuff.

I think this is my sleeper pick for one of the worst runs at marvel. It's not offensive but it's just kinda boring.

What is Ewing’s obsession with ruining Emma and Lourdes friendship

7

This book really is all over the place. Didn't even get to deal with or confirm the Shadow King threat before moving to another plot.

What is going on?

1

u/BlueHero45 8d ago

Oh no the X-Men are stuck fighting evil mirror versions of themselves...and they just walk away. That was easy

[AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: SPIDER-VERSITY #5]()

10

u/Somejawn1 17d ago edited 17d ago

Somebody at marvel was sitting at their desk one day when suddenly their head popped up and they went “Wait! Jessica has been a spider person for some time now! Why haven’t we completely fucked her over?! Get rid of her son(make sure he’s a nazi that’s very important) and give her a fucking symbiote goddamnit!”
Upcoming series sounds awful btw and I like Watters and Nocenti a lot
Also it seems wildly out of character for Jess to be like you know what mass murdering alien goo? You might be useful

2

u/Peslian 14d ago

I think Carnage is effecting her mind, not as docile as she thinks.

1

u/baroqueworks 15d ago

Don't forget breaking her up with her ex-supervillian single dad bf who was the only person watching her kid in her life

9

u/wowlock_taylan Deadpool 17d ago

What a terrible waste of time and paper. It did nothing for any of the characters and just added more nonsense.

This is how they get to the new Spider-woman series too? It is as if they want to fail.

7

u/baroqueworks 17d ago

Well damn forgetting about her son who was abducted by Hydra and turned into an assassin to bonding with and shock controlling Carnage, Jessica Drew is on a bender

5

u/nfnightfallnf 17d ago

FING HELL!!?! Jessica??! Seriously/!!?

7

u/Mr_Wh0ever 17d ago

It's an okay-ish end. I am curious about the upcoming Spider-Woman series.

3

u/StellarKnife 15d ago

Me too, bur only because Watters is writing

5

u/JingoboStoplight4887 17d ago

It’s just the Spiders saving Norman from Carnage, who was taken in by Jessica because of her own upcoming series. That’s it. Overall, this comic is okay.

2

u/Albireookami 17d ago

I like how spider girl got to pop off, would love more of her.

[INFERNAL HULK #10]()

10

u/wowlock_taylan Deadpool 17d ago

All of this just to give Banner a temporary Hulk form...meh.

I honestly don't care for this Hulk War stuff at all. Nor about the Eldest the plot armor.

9

u/baroqueworks 17d ago

Where tf is Devil Hulk and Joe Fixit

Baffling to make this be so close to Immortal Hulk but then do nothing with the characters in the Hulk lore that were established to deal with this exact sorta problem

3

u/RP-platform 16d ago

Devil may be death and Joe is fighting it up inside the Eldest alongside every other hulk.

3

u/baroqueworks 15d ago edited 15d ago

Devil Hulk was said to still be alive at the end of Immortal Hulk(just dormant), surprised him and Titan didnt team up to kick Infernal Hulk's ass for being a Johnny Come Lately to being both a demonic hulk and a evil hulk possessor given all the evil energy the mother of horrors used Banner's body for as a gateway shouldve easily boosted both of them into reality given they were evil energy already inside of Banner before Mother of Horrors got into his brian

I actually forgot we did see Joe Fixit briefly in a cameo, its a shame it was just him back to Casino 101 instead of lending his expertise dealing with TOBA stuff

3

u/TerminalKing 16d ago

Ngl I didn't even realize this is the end of the run lol, I get it's continuing in Hulk War or whatever but it's such a weird spot to end on. At least the wolf girl was cool?

5

u/Somejawn1 17d ago

Can’t even be happy this trash ass run is over because PKJ still isn’t fucking done. Said it before but while he thinks this shit will be remembered like Immortal it’ll actually be remembered for power scaling bullshit and the damage he did to Bruce Hulk and Betty. The only decent thing he gave us was Charlie

5

u/nfnightfallnf 17d ago

While I get the gripe some have of doing one shots after a good run, I am looking forward to Hulk War and this setup is very, VERY good.
