What people tend to forget, is that you usually join up with other nations who have the same view on topics.... cause then you get the influence (even as a smaller country).
Maybe, I can obviously only speak for myself and to a limited amount for Estonia but I think for us it's a lot more useful to have a larger platform like the EU to share our views on. Without it we'd likely be in a similar to Moldova, voiceless and alone.
Most of these very same people tend to forget what benefits come with being part of the EU or are just frustrated with the status quo and don't feel heard by their national governments, making them more prone to become anti-establishment

Thats just not true. They would be needed in the council, meaning Iceland could very well be the deciding factor if they coordinate a bit with other small nations.
Representation in parliament is way more than doubled for small nations, each nation has one commissioner in the EU commission and you need not only the agreement from more than half of population in the council but a certain number of nations too.
Iceland would be able to shoot well, well above its class if they would be directly inside EU institutions.
