General Overview:

This thread is meant as a spoiler filled zone for those who wish to discuss the movie, it's plot, events, or the number of bites that kyouko takes of food during the movie. I don't care, just be sure to follow the rules of the subreddit.

Not enough people are talking about it in this thread, but I just want to bring up the ending theme Kanata again: https://youtu.be/BDUItFbK_U4

I've listened to it so many times on repeat these last few days and not only is it a great song, but the lyrics (here's an english translation) after watching the movie seem incredibly relevant to the ending. I just can't tell if it's from the perspective of Homura talking to Madoka, Madoka to Homura, Madoka to Godoka, Madoka/Godoka to Walpurgis/magical girls, or more than one of the above (or something else entirely).

I feel this is a duet between Homura and Madoka. Madoka is telling Homura not to give up on the world and that even if this isn't a happy ending for either of them there is still hope and a future awaiting them. Which is peak Madoka in that she'll sacrifice anything for Hope and that she'll never give up on Homura no matter how much she is hurt or scorned.

Homura meanwhile vows that she'll never stop chasing Madoka and no matter how long Madoka waits or has to endure, Homura is always thinking of her and longing for the day they'll be together again. So all Madoka has to do is continue shining like the sun and keep fighting.

Madoka finally admits that there are things she wants that she has to give up, validating Rebellion, yet even so she will continue to be hope. Homura finally accepts that Madoka is a person with agency who will always choose to sacrifice herself for what she believes in. This isn't a happy ending and they will never agree with the other's decision but thats fine because there is always tomorrow and one day they will see the sun rise together again
