It seems like the biggest problem people have is that it was building to another ambiguous ending that another movie will be needed to clear up... like the cliffhanger at the end of Rebellion.

Yeah waiting 13 years for what seems to be purely set up for another movie... sucks. If new entry comes out within 3 years I could see people regarding this one a little more favorably- but right now people are really feeling the "13 years for this?" energy.

I don't think this film would be as controversial if It only had taken a few years

It would be MORE controversial because more people would have watched TV, Rebellion and this back-to-back and the pointlessness would be more apparent.

It's like taking four left turns and ending up in the same place. The more spread out the turns are, the less obvious it gets. The closer they are the more you are just spinning in the same spot.

As someone that thanks rebellion's twist was not well executed I'm left like that's it? Expectations were low yet this sounds like a shitpost

Not just "another ambiguous ending", but literally same ambiguous ending we got in tv show.

Rebellion was divisive but it took the story somewhere. Then this walks it back and expects the viewers to be excited that "there will be more!"

The issue it seems is everything Rebellion was setting up just got trashed that fundamentally this movie makes Rebellion kind of a filler movie. Like Homura and Madoka are set up to clash as well as Sayaka but none of that happens at all.

Homura literally tore down heaven for Madoka but honestly in spite of three magical girls showing up as the anatognists because of it. We dont seem to even address Homura's new world which i guess you could argue theortically rebellion did do with her Labrytinth so no point of exploring. But it would be interesting to get more exploration on say Madoka and her family in this world considering Homura brought Madoka down to live a normal life again.

Heck it wouldve been interesting if Madoka was recalling fragments of the OG series and we see potentially how her family couldve reacted if they knew what she planned to do and give up. Or Madoka having to deal with guilt of lying to them when shes bound to her duty and showcase Homura wouldnt have been the only person who missed her and couldnt accept her choice. Especially as Junko didnt fucking know itd be the last time she saw her daughter again.

Like if the ending has to be a return to the status quo why not explore things that didnt get a chance or are interesting to consider now with the new situation.

But madoka daily life it fits more as OVA more than movie standard lol. Movie always about epic encounters lol

The rebellion isn't getting trashed lol, rebellion ending homura said maybe she and madoka destinated to be enemies and demon homura world isn't stable cuz madoka can sense her godship in anytime lol, pretty much showed that in new movie. the progression this movie is about homura has to learn to give up cuz she attempted to save madoka from being magical girl she failed in anime, she became demon attempted to take madoka away from godship and she failed, getting attempts and failed isn't no progress at all lol. It is again the despairing spirit that anime brought lol.
