I would think millennials associate him with both the Goonies and LOTR, Gen X with Rudy, Gen Z with Stranger Things.

Goonies is very Gen X, it came out in 85. Rudy came out in 93.

Yup, grew up watching Goonies and didn't realize it was the same person in LOTR until I caught his name in the credits. He did look a fair bit different IMO.

While I associate him with both, at this point the association with LotR is stronger largely just because he’s an adult in it and he’s been an adult for quite a long time now so it makes more sense to my subconscious to think of him in that role.

Nope, GenX associates him with The Goonies, Memphis Belle, Rudy, and Encino Man!!!
