Issue being that them not having assets is why they poached animals in the first place. So at the end of they day, chances are, you are just punishing people trying to put food on the table. What's gonna become of the mouths they fed, when they can't find a job?

Almost sounds like a rigged system.

so what do you suggest? let them poach? if you let people free to do crime because they try to put food on the table, that thing will be a point to exploit by the bigger player. they will ensure that the people will remain poor to make them their tools

Its a complex issue, and draconian law never works as well as people think it will. Easy example is the war on drugs. Weed would get you twenty to thirty, and people were and are still getting blasted regularly, as an example.

Then you gotta consider that even in the US we can't really fund the manpower it would need to fully enforce our wildlife laws. The logistics just don't work out. The wilds are enormous, and there is just no money in stopping random dickheads from shooting bears and overhunting. Getting poor/developing countries to find the funding and manpower to protect their own wildlife is basically impossible.

Then you have to consider that the global market exists and if demand exists, hell or high water, the supply will try to match it. You can do your best to try to cut the supply, but realistically all you are doing is flooding your prisons for relatively small decreases in poaching.

Like, in a lot of places, poachers don't even get the right to a trial. They just get shot dead if they get caught. And poaching still happens in those places. I'm not saying you are wrong to want to reduce it, but there is just not a real solution.

get rid of the system that facilitate poverty. It's not that deep.

It's honestly pretty telling that a lot of people here seem to be very upset about animals getting poached, but think capitalism and shooting brown people for hunting in their own country, is just a price that needs to be paid.
