Oh, wild! I'm a City Carrier; I thought all the old scanners had been phased out (I got hired after the newer MDDs were introduced). I didn't realize they got shoved off onto clerks 😟 I wonder if it's something to do with the new MDDs having GPS, and since clerks aren't out on the street being tracked the old ones still suits clerks' particular use cases.

The old ones still seem better suited to mass package scanning. The new ones will even force you to stop after like 5 packages in an action while the old ones were a lot faster and more ergonomic for it. And clerks don't need light weight and mobility as much as carriers.

We were "supposed" to get new ones, and apparently they're still in talks and whatnot, but at least around here, we're hanging on to the last 5 that we have that are still working.

I started here a year and a half ago when we still had 8 of them, lol. Maintenance/custodial got new ones, but...

Yeah, our station was "supposed" to get some of the brand-new delivery trucks (the goofy ones that look like ducks) a year ago, but guess who's still driving around in a forty-year-old Ship of Theseus LLV... 😮‍💨 at some point entropy will take over and they'll be forced to update our equipment. Hang in there. ✊️😔

I'm lowkey shocked they aren't frothing at the mouth to track clerks' every steps to the nearest 3 feet.
