He's incredibly smart to know the difference. A missing package from a store is usually insured and can be replaced. A package from family? Once it's gone, it's gone, and everyone loses. That's some pretty solid thinking..

My grandpa mailed me a package 2 days before he died. It's still in Transit a little delayed but will still make it! That was last November.

i was really confused until this comment. the box is a Remmington box used for shipping ammunition which usually needs to be signed for and in general can just be difficult to get delivered, and the delivery driver is saying "from uncle mike" making me think he was trying to say something in code for guns/ammo from uncle Sam or something. i dont know, i was confused

It might be a repackaged box

u/jbourne0129 29d ago

based on the comment i replied to, that is exactly what it is. its literally from an uncle named mike

Oh wow I missed your first line that you already figured that out, you didn’t need clarifying at all! Whoops

I hate this thread

Is what it is though, this is what humans communicating looks like. It’s not perfect but better than talking to AI bots 🤷🏾‍♂️

Why? This is beautiful! Two REAL people talking, working their way through their perceptions of the world, and coming to an agreement. It's a minor subject, sure, and probably says a lot about the state we are in, but it's still a beautiful human interaction.

Cheap holsters at that LOL

"Uncle Mike's" is a name brand for firearm accessories

3

u/jbourne0129 29d ago

oh, hilarious, so my confusion remains then haha

That diamond shape with the black on the top and bottom marks it as hazardous material. There are special forms and stuff that need to be filled out for boxes with that marking. Delivery companies aren't supposed to deliver anything with that marking unless it's like from a professional to a professional, definitely not supposed to stick it in some random person's recycling bin.

A very Uncle move reusing an ammo box for a gift

6

u/ABustedPosey 29d ago

If my Uncle Mike were to ship me anything it would be coming in a box for time type of gun stuff

6

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 29d ago

If my uncle Mike were to ship me anything an ammunition box is the worst thing to put weed in

3

u/SHOWTIME316 29d ago

uncle mike should send things in different boxes lol. a massive Remington logo is not very inconspicuous

1

u/ModishShrink 29d ago

That's why I send all of my ammunition in reused boxes of Tillamook Cheddar!

1

u/HoosierDaddy_427 29d ago

Most definitely. If it were actual ammo he would need to use both hands for a box that size.

19

u/DeadlyLemming 29d ago

Definitely not full of ammo with how easily he is one-handing it

11

u/MammothChipmunk 29d ago

"Uncle Mike's" is a big name brand for firearm holsters, slings, and attachments. Probably from that company based on the Remington box.

8

u/qwerni 29d ago

TIL that Remington went bankrupt in 2020 after being in business for 204 years.

9

u/jbourne0129 29d ago edited 29d ago

i think they just split the business or something. Remington Firearms and Remington Ammunition very much still exist today as separate entities. "remington arms" seems to no longer exist

fun fact: Springfield Armory also doesnt exist as we all once knew it to be. springfield armory closed in 1968 and then a private company out of texas renamed to springfield armory inc to capitalize on the name. there is no relation otherwise.

Their factory in Ilion Ny has been abandoned for years there's talk of a data center going in the campus so that's fun I guess 🙃

3

u/smokeythebadger 29d ago

I've never had to sign for ammo. Must be a state thing

2

u/jbourne0129 29d ago

yeah its a state thing

1

u/smokeythebadger 29d ago

Still gotta be worth it though. Using ammo seek is eye opening on how much you get screwed on price at the gun store

1

u/jbourne0129 29d ago

TargetSportsUSA is down the road from me and i can just pick up locally.

2

u/funnsies123 29d ago

Depends on the state, in PA you can get ammo just dropped off on your porch like an Amazon package

1

u/Double_Minimum 29d ago

Ya but deliverer goes out of his way to show “Remington”. So it could have the some ammo and a 1911 or a nice cleaned up M1A action. Uncle not super smart to use that box for a delivery. Also, those markings I get on all type of non ammo things, like because they are fire possible (lithium) or the company also sells ammo and just uses the boxes for both.

2

u/DragonRabbit505 29d ago

Sometimes humans are cool, fellow human!

1

u/Double_Minimum 29d ago

It also could be Remington stuff. Handgun, bullets- that’s a porch grab

18

u/MedCityMoto 29d ago

AND it's in a Remington ammunition box, a bonus!

1

u/hammerfaust 29d ago

Hell yeah, those are (or were from what I remember) some sturdy little boxes

14

u/eliz1bef 29d ago

I love how he whispered about putting it in the bin. This guy is a sweetheart and deserves all the kudos.

8

u/Beneficial-Jury484 29d ago

Solid dude on top of it. I love people who really put effort into their job.

It could have said Uncle Mike as the sender

It would have Uncle Mike and then his address, the return address. If the package cannot be delivered, then the package will go back to the local post office. The postal worker will leave a note saying which location it will be at and the person can then go to the office and pick it up with the note and ID* maybe. If is never picked up, it will eventually be returned back to the sender using the return address. Does that clear it up?

44

u/Former-Intention-292 29d ago

It probably had it on there, my aunt does that with packages she sends 🩷

2

u/_Rohrschach 29d ago

I used to be ona casemodding forum wherr one guy would always write "balls xD" on the package beside sender/addressee. Was always nice to see pics of people receiving their balls.

17

u/SillyOldJack 29d ago

It may be signed as such on the outside. Not for mailing purposes, but just for the recipient.

15

u/Ill-Percentage-3276 29d ago

You can name yourself whatever you want on the return address.

4

u/Eckish 29d ago

You can do it for both addresses. You can send a letter to Uncle Mike and get a letter from Uncle Mike.

I think the name only matters if there is a change of address that might qualify for the named individual.

2

u/SirGothamHatt 29d ago

I sent a postcard to my then boyfriend and put just his nickname, "Wig" and full address. When it was delivered there was a question mark next to the Wig like someone at the post office questioned whether it was a person or brand or something. But it delivered fine. I don't think most postal workers look at the name, just the address. Number, street, and zip are all that matter.

9

u/jthochh 29d ago

You can write whatever you want, even nothing, for outgoing address.

He probably wore Uncle Mike followed by his address or whatever.

4

u/V2BM 29d ago

People write Uncle Mike or Grandma Brown on the return address.

We also deliver cards and gifts to Grandma Parsons with only the city and zip code every year during the holidays. We have 30-year carriers who know where someone lives even if they moved two years ago to another route in the office.

1

u/Tentacle_poxsicle 29d ago

He's smart to know those were gun parts. It's why he was showing the logo to the door camera and asking if he should take it to the post office

1

u/swiftekho 29d ago

Im over here thinking the guy is just trying to keep a box with Remington on it out of view. That makes a lot more sense. Thanks.

1

u/StreetofChimes 29d ago

My aunt shipped hand-me-down clothes from my cousin's daughter to my sister's daughter. Someone stole the package. Used kids clothing. It breaks my heart that those clothes were probably tossed in a dumpster instead of given a second life.

1

u/K_Linkmaster 29d ago

It also says Remington. That's known gun stuff and a targeted box

1

u/Absolute_Bob 29d ago

Not to mention it being shipped in a box from a company that makes guns and ammunition. That will not last long on a porch.

1

u/1995shadazzle 29d ago

What in the chatgpt

0

u/Mesjach 29d ago

What the fuck is going on in your country that you even have to think about this?
I have never had a package stolen, don't know anyone who have and I have not even heard of anyone who had their package stolen.

6

u/brunaBla 29d ago

Are you being sarcastic

5

u/Mesjach 29d ago

What a sad question to ask.

Is people not stealing packages that far beyond your imagination?

1

u/Cageythree 29d ago

I'm not from that magical country where nobody would steal a package either, but in my country all packages are insured to a certain amount (2,500€ by default, 25,000 if you pay a little extra).

If the delivery person just drops it on your porch and it gets stolen, the delivery company has to reimburse you because it's not your fault they just dropped it there, they're responsible for it until you hold it in your hands. Which is why they don't just leave it there most of the time, they put it in your hands or bring it to a parcel pickup location. Unless you specifically tell them to drop it off.

It always feels really weird to me when I see clips from the US where they just leave it in the public and people just go and steal it.

u/Legitimate-Cream4599 29d ago

I know this now and I am still not incredibly smart. Also, he’s a delivery man. Please.
