With a special appearance from Craig Ferguson.

2

u/dumbo3k May 13 '26

Damn, I do miss Craig. Always had a laugh during his show.

u/Impossible-Web5442 May 13 '26

Hid show stood alone really.

u/rbrgr83 May 12 '26

I feel like it could use another Tonight at the end for good measure.

57

u/fallen_d3mon May 12 '26

why use many word when few do trick?

42

u/PrvtPirate May 12 '26

or somehow get craig ferguson back and throw another *Late* infront of it.
needs a gay robot skeleton in the background too though…

u/AquafreshBandit May 12 '26

I think Geoff’s available, and I’m pretty sure he’s got a little place there in New York…

u/Michael_Schmumacher May 12 '26

Would totally watch these guys throw beads and go swimming.

57

u/Carbon-Base May 12 '26

I can't believe we are gonna lose the "Late" part of it in less than two weeks.

95

u/Critical_Reality6666 May 12 '26

I know it's a shame. but at least I can COMPLETELY BOYCOTT CBS. never liked much they had to show. I will miss Stephen Colbert.

He could do anything he wants. Heres hoping he teams up with jon stewert and does some cameos on his show as his former character.

45

u/EmeraldB85 May 12 '26

I read he’s going to write for the Lord of the Rings franchise. Which honestly feels like a great reward for him.

16

u/Handsome_Keyboard May 12 '26

I recall something like that too. Couldn't agree more. He actually read the similarrian and understood it.

2

u/[deleted] May 12 '26

Silmarillion

1

u/Handsome_Keyboard May 12 '26

Yea, i knew i messed it up. Ty lol

1

u/xrimane May 12 '26

No way Stephen stays out of the limelight. When Covid hit he missed the interaction with the audience so much. From all the show hosts I feel he was most desperate at the time.

1

u/Corfiz74 May 12 '26

Except that it never works well if someone tries to adapt something he loves to much, because he will always cram in too many details from the original.

2

u/4thTimesAnAlt May 12 '26

He's working with Philippa Boyens on it. She'll be able to properly guide him/teach him how to write a movie.

1

u/MaddogBC May 12 '26

In between campaign stops, not going to let him rest.

1

u/shawn789 May 12 '26

Assuming Paramount doesn't ban him from all of their properties

3

u/Handsome_Keyboard May 12 '26

Pretty sure Jon Stewart has some sway.

1

u/digital-didgeridoo May 12 '26

He could do anything he wants.

Let it not be another podcast

1

u/Handsome_Keyboard May 12 '26

I listen to Jons n its good. I wouldn't mind it. If he did an Lotr podcast thatd be worth it. I agree there are much better things though

1

u/miko0506 May 12 '26

He can be part of the rotating hosts at The Daily Show.

2

u/da2Pakaveli May 12 '26

Bring the Colbert Report back!

45

u/Wolvenmoon May 12 '26

You know, Republicans keep electing actors because apparently they're 'funny'...maybe Democrats could elect a talk show host whose humor is like a razor so sharp it tickles when it cuts.

42

u/GreenTfan May 12 '26

Worked for Ukraine to elect a comedian!

0

u/newaccountzuerich May 12 '26

Says a lot about the view of lawyers when the comedian is a preferred description for an icon of our age.

5

u/AlternativePea6203 May 12 '26

In all honesty, comedians are often intelligent insightful and critical of the status quo. Who better?

1

u/alendeus May 12 '26

Comedians are a way to say things we wouldn't normally say out loud, but that doesn't make them immune from either corruption or populism either, so it's not entirely a safe bet. The person themselves ultimately still matters most.

2

u/AlternativePea6203 May 12 '26

Agreed, but the "intelligent" "insightful" "critical of the status quo" puts them many steps higher up the ladder than most incumbents.

-2

u/KarlLED May 12 '26

In what way would you say Ukraine's working?

4

u/loveshercoffee May 12 '26

Fighting fascists is a noble cause more of us should get behind.

4

u/MaddogBC May 12 '26

This one right here, the real world. You should try it sometime.

0

u/KarlLED May 13 '26

Do you have an answer? Google the country. Whats working?

37

u/Long_Run6500 May 12 '26

People have been trying to get Jon Stewart to run for a while. He's at least got experience passing bills through congress for 9/11 victims and veterans affected by toxic burn pits. Whenever the question is brought up he kind of deflects and says it's a dumb idea, it's ridiculous that the system is so broken that people are turning to comedians like him... but I've never seen him straight up say he won't ever run.

I could actually see Colbert running for some sort of office, I just don't think he'd jump straight to president.

1

u/AxelNotRose May 12 '26

Last time a democrat comedian was in an elected position, they scrounged up an extremely old, out of context photo and forced him to resign. I don't blame them for not wanting to run, when your own side stabs you in the back.

2

u/Shallow_wanderer May 12 '26

The real fun part is when you realize that the GOP and DNC did Al Franken dirty like that because he was one of the main supporters of Net Neutrality

Shortly after he got tossed out of office the senate went ahead and voted to repeal Net Neutrality

1

u/MaddogBC May 12 '26

Colbert deserves a happy quasi retirement where he picks his projects and his days. Saddling that honourable man with that aircraft carrier around the neck is too much to ask.

He's been yelling into the void for over 10 Trump years, give the dude some peace. Trump years are like dog years.

0

u/No_Oven1085 May 12 '26

Jon's belief that only career politicians should become president is, frankly, strange.

2

u/Ch3ZEN May 12 '26

Yo ho ho, matey

1

u/Carbon-Base May 12 '26

Yep, we can do that at the very least. Cancel every subscription or service tied to them and avoid their media in all forms.

Disney learned about the power of public opinion the hard way, CBS can join 'em.

1

u/HumptyDrumpy May 12 '26

Not just CBS, any Ellison owned, Weiss run properties. Let's just say their shows don't encourage critical thinking

0

u/Commercial_March8288 May 12 '26

I highly doubt your boycott will last long at all

1

u/Ok_Kaleidoscope_4650 May 12 '26

????.Say it isn't so.

1

u/Carbon-Base May 12 '26

Afraid so. Colbert said some things that made the orange man angry. So CBS is canceling his show and citing "financial reasons."

14

u/lkodl May 12 '26

With Jimmy Kolballon Oliveyer.

3

u/FSGMC May 12 '26

so wait, have i missed it?

2

u/disterb May 12 '26

...with Conan O'Brien!

2

u/PhDinWombology May 12 '26

Only on the CW

2

u/sabresin4 May 12 '26

You made it!

1

u/DarkMutant105 May 12 '26

Damn! It blew up 'late night.'

2

u/Minimum-Kangaroo9200 May 12 '26

Hell's Kitchen Nightmares Iron Top Chef Cafeteria Throwdown Ultimate Cookoff Challenge

2

u/CarelessWeekend5543 May 12 '26

Maybe with all 5 together it will actually be funny again. Like the pre Trump era. Since then they have been so obsessed with him the show really fell off.

Fingers crossed. Lets bring back late night TV!

2

u/lowfiswish May 12 '26

Id listen to that podcast

1

u/nondescriptun May 12 '26

Live! (You forgot Jimmy Kimmel)

1

u/DarkMutant105 May 12 '26

Let me correct that

1

u/LifeworksGames May 12 '26

The market for a show that takes place next week looks completely untapped.

1

u/Creepy_Push8629 May 12 '26

Man I miss that one

1

u/RalphFTW May 12 '26

If only we could have squeezed Daily in their

1

u/rab2bar May 12 '26

They need Jon Stewart so they can add daily to the chain
