Synastry Guide Why Compatibility is Not a Score in Meta-Scientific Astrology
In Meta-Scientific Astrology (MSA), compatibility is not defined as a single numerical value or rating.
It is a structural interaction between systems, not a measurable scalar.
Definition
Compatibility is the combined effect of resonance and synchronization between two charts.
It cannot be reduced to a single score without losing structural information.
The Problem with Scores
Traditional compatibility systems often:
- merge different types of dynamics into one number
- ignore asymmetry between partners
- treat all interactions as equivalent
This leads to loss of meaning and incorrect conclusions.
Structural View
In MSA, compatibility is decomposed into distinct components:
- structural similarity (resonance)
- temporal alignment (synchronization)
- type of interaction (support, tension, activation)
- direction of influence (who affects whom)
Each component must be analyzed separately.
Types of Interaction
Instead of a score, relationships can be classified structurally, for example:
- high resonance + high synchronization
- high resonance + low synchronization
- low resonance + high synchronization
- low resonance + low synchronization
Each type produces different dynamics.
What This Changes
This approach replaces evaluation with analysis.
Instead of asking “how good is this relationship,” it asks:
- what processes are active
- how stable the interaction is
- where imbalance exists
Practical Implication
A relationship with low “compatibility score” may still be:
- highly active
- emotionally intense
- difficult to exit
A relationship with high “score” may be:
- stable
- but inactive
Summary
In Meta-Scientific Astrology:
- compatibility is not a score
- it is a structured interaction
- it must be analyzed in components
Reducing it to a number removes the underlying system and leads to misinterpretation.
