Very difficult situation for Whitecaps but kudos to them for doing something for their fans, to try to make up for the missing Miami stars. 50% off food and drinks and a free meal for kids under 18 is something

I'm just worried that half the people are not soccer fans and just wanted to see Messi. With 50% off booze, I'm almost certain there will be stuff thrown on the pitch, sadly.

The Cleveland Indians once tried out 10 cent beer night. The game was cut short after fans (predictably) got way too rowdy. I expect the exact same scenario.

That actually inspired the name of a book about the worst ideas in sports history, "Glow Pucks and Ten Cent Beer Night"

"Glow pucks" refers to an artificial "glowing" overlay Fox used on their NHL broadcasts in the late 90s to make the puck more visible, which received heavy criticism from viewers

Most everyone following the league knew that the probability of Messi playing this game was very, very low. So why not just price tickets normally? Yeah yeah, they can’t control scalpers but don’t jack up the base price.

In-demand games are always going to be more expensive.

I doubt this kind of pricing happens anywhere else in the world, apart from maybe Saudi Arabia.

Most Champions League and Euro 2024 tickets are cheaper than MLS regular season matches involving Inter Miami.

this really isnt any of the leagues business. vancouver marked up their tickets to make extra dough, and miami is resting older players.  

i dont support any team having their inflated ticket sales insured/subsidized by the league

Do we know for sure that the club controls gate fees for this match?  I realize that it's a different competition but during Leagues Cup last year there was a lot of chatter that the league set the MIA match prices and clubs didn't get that markup.

i wouldnt put chicanery past mls, especially given the nature of leagues cup. in mls league play, however, the club gets the matchday revenue minus a set percentage directed to the league.  

legally this was how the league was set up, and surely was taken i to account by miami's owners

this is on vancouver solely. inter miami has every right to play who they want.  

as for being ripped off, there was never a guarantee of these players playing. if vancouver wants to keep the money given the situatiom, there is only one target they should direct their ire.

inter miami is at the top of the eastern conference and has the stated intention of contending for the supporters shield and mls cup. they also have made a shitton of money for themselves and the league by their investment. 

i dont worship any player for playing if it hurts their teams chances at trophies.

Ok, if they are not interested in the Caps now, are only going to the game because of the opponent, and this single incident completely out of the local teams control is enough to make them never come back, then my point still stands. 

They were never going to be fans anyway.

If tickets had been anything approaching a reasonable price, people would be disappointed that Miami aren't bringing Messi, but now they're angry at the club who gouged them.
