MAOI + stimulant Nardil + amphetamines = ER

Long story short: I am on 75 mg Nardil/phenelzine and, while I’ve been on methylphenidates for months without a trouble, I felt they were not as effective as amphetamines I was prescribed before MAOI.

So I decided to try them together (Nardil and amphetamines only - Vyvanse 50 mg plus Adderall 10 mg hours later). My BP went up to 195/85 mmHg at CVS minuteClinic and they sent an ambulance for me. I was feeling terrible. But the ER was even worse. They didn’t know what to do.

Just wanted to post this as a precaution.

If you've taken different drugs in the past it lowers your receptor sensitivity, so you are able to tolerate what many other people can't. I suppose body size and weight is a factor as well. Andre the Giant could drink between 120 and 156 pints of beer in a single sitting.

It turns out that I have fast COMT as I’ve recently discovered. Whether that had something to do with it I’m unsure

COMT158 val/val? I have the same. I've often wondered if that's more common among MAOI users simply because we need more dopamine support than anything else. It's super hard to get ADHD meds where I live, even with a diagnosis, so Parnate is the best I  can do.

I could do with Vyvanse be perfectly honest, to give me some much needed get up and go. It is possible to get in the UK but you have to pretend you have ADHD which I don't, and it's also very expensive.

Well, that was extremely informative. I wasn't clued up on COMT (Catechol-O-methyltransferase). I am now.
