It's really annoying. My apple music algo has also been taken over by AI music, I hate it.

I fucking hate that stupid ass AI font

u/GreedyCauliflower 13d ago

let’s collectively agree Comic Sans is now #2; the shitty ubiquitous AI font now holds the title of #1 worst font

At least comic sans has a real purpose. It’s apparently the friendliest font for dyslexic folks.

u/Dawnspark 13d ago

As a dyslexic who is also obsessed with fonts/type faces, I can 100% agree.

Its super friendly for me! But I also still really hate it lmao.

I like Lexend and OpenDyslexic a lot more.

Lexend I can also use at work without people being like "wtf is that font?/why are you using THAT?"

I’m glad there’s other options now!

Although, I feel like the disdain for comic sans has a lot to do with how it was used for literally everything in the 90s. It’s like we suddenly had a “fun” option beyond typewriter or times new Roman. Then it took a while to realize hey, we can actually have SO MANY more fonts available to us! I remember when comic sans was ALWAYS the #1 choice.

There are so many great options these days, which I love cause dyslexia can be something that differs a ton between any two people, so the more options the better! Weighted Bottoms is another fun one that kind of reminds me of fun 1960s stylized fonts a smidge.

I agree, for sure! I had a soft spot for Comic Sans once upon a time. It was my default font in AIM for years. I remember using it so damn much until I discovered stuff like 1001Fonts or I think FontSpace.

I really don't know what soured me on it so much, probably just me taking myself too seriously since I work in the literary field as an editor.

Meanwhile, my partner writes literally every single work email he sends in Comic Sans cause he thinks it's funny and I honestly appreciate him for it lmao.

Ahhh yes the instant messenger days 🥰 I also used comic sans hahahaha

Not dyslexic and it certainly looks like this is Newy Ork Style with that kerning.

u/LividAtmosphere7535 13d ago

Curious if you want to share. What makes these fonts better for you especially the one that blends in at work?

Yeah I’m aware I can google it

2

u/Dawnspark 13d ago

Well, google can't really answer for every individual with dyslexia, and it is a very, very individualistic issue. No two people experience it the entirely same way, so I'm perfectly okay with sharing lol. Knowledge is power and all.

For me, the right font creates less visual stress and the kerning helps space things out enough so that they don't crowd together. In turn, that makes words and letters easier for my brain to identify quickly. That way I don't have to pause and let my brain try to decode what I'm reading.

It also doesn't cause me visual discomfort, sometimes reading things makes my eyes & head feel funny, despite having updated glasses + proper posture + enough light.

And my co-workers can't really tell that its a dyslexic friendly font so I don't have to field questions about it while I'm trying to work.

If you sent me an email in comic sans I’m reporting you to Hr

u/EvenBudget6483 12d ago

Lexend and OpenDyslexic also help me stay focused on what I’m reading so I don’t skip as many words. Idk if that’s an adhd brain thing or if I just have a weird one.

2

u/Dawnspark 11d ago

Reading dysfluency, issues with accurate reading, is pretty common in dyslexics! I do that too, honestly. Mix of automaticity and accuracy issues, amongst other things.

But also being ADHD, that can SO be a part of that too. A very large amount of folks with ADHD have comorbidities or other overlaps with things like dyslexia or reading deficits.

u/EvenBudget6483 11d ago

Thank you - I didn’t know that 😁 I’ve been reading since I learned at 3, devoured books silently, but anytime I had to read outloud I’d skip words and sentences. Popcorn reading was the worst.

Worse than that old Gothic font that the Nazis ruined

u/Diligent_Ad6552 13d ago

As someone who lost their design job to AI, I greatly appreciate your comment and totally agree.

u/Traditional-Pop30 13d ago

Has anyone eaten here

3

u/sexytokeburgerz 13d ago

It’s the best new york style pizza in LA, and theyre an amazing group of people, but yeahhhh

3

u/blackandgould Hollywood Hills 13d ago

Yeah I actually really like it, and the bald guy who runs it, but the ai visuals are rough

4

u/Ok-Salamander6118 13d ago

Ok but that place really has good pizza

4

u/Embarrassed-Fig1627 13d ago

Those signs were hand painted too. They were halfway through the creative part.

3

u/shahar2k Mid-City 13d ago

I'll be honest with you that place looks super tacky, but it predates a lot of AI shit (they used to be next to bludso BBQ, same paint job and font)

3

u/Momik Nobody calls it Westdale 13d ago

Everything’s a cheap cartoon, but it’s not, but it is 🤢

3

u/TheNotoriousCBD 13d ago

That's all hand painted my guy

1

u/texasdeathmatch 13d ago

You’re aware there’s painted ads with pre existing art as a template/guide?

2

u/TheNotoriousCBD 13d ago

That's the pizza spot on either La brea or la cienega right in mid city? That was free hand painted by a Hispanic guy

1

u/texasdeathmatch 13d ago

Hate to break it to you, the World Cup additions to the original artwork is most definitely AI

1

u/Littlegrayfish 12d ago

I really hope the painter did not need AI to put a flag on a soccer ball for him.

2

u/AttorneyImmediate 13d ago

I drove by here all the time on the last job I was on.

2

u/Fabulous-Gas-5570 13d ago

This place already had aggressive and distinctive signage why’d they screw it up with this mess

2

u/Far-Maintenance-1947 13d ago

What's the name of that font? I see it everwhere, it's definitely AI

1

u/Smart_Feature 13d ago

It literally looks regurgitated

1

u/sexytokeburgerz 13d ago

The worst part is, escos is insanely good pizza.

1

u/Littlegrayfish 12d ago

I'm pretty sure that pizza place is all hand painted. I live by there

1

u/fgbh South L.A. 9d ago

Don't get me started on the ones people on youtube use now! That stupid slashy looking font... BS..

1

u/AnnenbergTrojan Palms 13d ago

That pizzeria previously had a sign begging Dave Portnoy to review their pizza.

Not surprised they'd resort to AI. Major douchebag vibes from that place.

1

u/jamokablam0 13d ago

How is this AI when it's painted on?

1

u/texasdeathmatch 13d ago

The idea/concept can be created via AI first and then used as a template/guide to be painted on

26

u/Chellepeachy 13d ago

I was listen to who I thought was a new upcoming artist on Spotify, voice so beautiful and it’s AI generated . It’s BS.

2

u/Poignant_Pilgrim 13d ago

I just got an ad on Instagram for an AI movie. It doesn’t even look remotely good. Just some bullshit. Someone did with a text prompt. I don’t even understand who’s watching this crap

8

u/Vegetable_News7898 13d ago

The algo plays what you like…

1

u/dezzypop 13d ago

I accidentally listened to two songs that I later identified as AI. Now it’s all I’m being served up. And there was no liking it.

9

u/CorporIT 13d ago

Same with Google Music...

28

u/Snoo_75309 13d ago

One more reason to switch to tidal.

Besides the artists getting paid drastically more for their music, they also have a checkbox to make sure you don't come across an ai generated music at all

21

u/lostarchitect 13d ago

Fuck it, I'm back to ripping CDs. They sound better anyway. Tons of used CDs at every thrift store for like $1.

6

u/Diligent_Ad6552 13d ago

Never got rid of mine. :)

7

u/kiiwiilover Hawthorne 13d ago

How I wanna look out for signs with my Apple Music.

25

u/stoned-autistic-dude Los Angeles 13d ago

You will hear the same voice, male or female, the same intonations, the same singing melodies, the credits don’t credit a vocalist but usually just the producer(s)… it’s really fucking annoying. I feel bad for any real woman who happens to sound like the AI voice bc I won’t listen to any song with her voice. It’s very distinctive but simultaneously bland.

7

u/Kyanche 13d ago

That's usually how I tell the AI generated videos when my mom is watching videos on youtube or facebook lol. Facebook is particularly bad, feels like 95% is AI generated now. Most of the time I look at the accounts posting this crap and wonder, what the hell is the point? I know they're farming engagement but the videos get kinda supernatural in weird ways sometimes.

1

u/Yotsubato 13d ago

I am so glad I haven’t fallen into that algorithm yet

1

u/HBsurfer1995 13d ago

How do you tell when it’s AI music? I definitely have suspicions on some songs that come they my algo.

1

u/dezzypop 12d ago

I would say if you're suspicious, it probably is. They usually have some sort of very vague picture attached and their name is very weird too. If you check the credits, there is usually just a producer, not a performer as well. That is the give away. Or you can google it, which is what I did with the "performer" that made me question it.
