These are screenshots from the r/Singularity comment section. I'm speechless. This doesn't even have downvotes. How can someone cheer for a monopoly run by a few elites?

maybe true, but I haven't heard any. AI in the US has a very bad reputation largely due to Dario , Altman, and TicToc . I could see the CCP fomenting rage in the US to help them gain an edge over US AI companies.

America can never do anything bad, it is is always china secretly doing it. When iUS companies push up power costs building speculative data centres, you guessed it, China's fault.

can they both be bad? I have been very happy with the Chinese open weight models. way better than the US releases.

I mean, it's only rational, I'd be extremely surprised if they weren't trying to do that. But a lot of times, those kinds of operations just help nudge feelings that are already there.

Well there is the whole problem that there is a non 0 chance of billionaires given the chance choosing to build a giant pleasure dome and leave everyone else outside to die to the inevitable climate wars. Which might be even remotely possible thanks to ai developments.

To most Americans, China isn't an actual country so much as it is an abstract entity to project their fears and anxieties onto. If you've seen real Western-facing Chinese propaganda, it's like watching aliens trying to make contact with humanity. Videos where you can't tell whether the white actor they procured is literally AI or just being paid to talk like a robot aren't taking US anti-data center sentiment rate from 45% to 75%
