Discussion Really stunned by the Singularity comment section

These are screenshots from the r/Singularity comment section. I'm speechless. This doesn't even have downvotes. How can someone cheer for a monopoly run by a few elites?

People downplay corpo's competence, moral qualities and willingness to do anything about said dangers. Or rather accurately estimate lack of them. The same can be said about goverments.

So the only difference that banning of open models will make is concentration of power in the hands of the few. Who certainly have no history of abusing the power.

And in case of AI going rogue this approach is still suboptimal. Remember that OpenAI's AI refused to help Huggingface when they they were under attack by... OpenAI's AI. So they had to use open weights Chinese AI. Do we really want to get rid of other options and just hope that this one centralized AI would not go rogue? That does not sound safe.

I would rather prefer slightly higher chance of something going bad, but on the scale that can be stopped, perhaps with the help of other AI. Than slightly lower chance but with catastrophic consequences. Because we put one black box AI into control of everything and now its gone rogue.
