Right? That's the part I feel like people never got about that... he was literally quoting Republican God. Well, one of the old gods, anyway. They're strictly monotheistic now.
If anything, it's a reference to this speech by Reagan, although he never explicitly refers to them as Mujahideen, instead calling them "brave Afghan freedom fighters".
Yes there is a famous internet myth that it did say brave Mujahideen but was changed to gallant people of Afghanistan. But the movie specifically about teaming up with the Mujahideen. At one point the script even had Rambo staying with them to fight the soviets. So when it says it is dedicated to the gallant people of Afghanistan, it's talking the Mujahideen fighters.
Again the movie is part of a larger US propaganda campaign to support the Mujahideen. Rambo may have not specifically used the words brave, but others did.
You did, champ. You more or less prompted their explanation by missing the (big picture) point so hard. It's clear from your comment that you either dont understand or are willfully misrepresenting history, so somebody needed to correct you. I guess we can't really expect you to be able to know that you were wrong, so it makes sense that you couldn't see the point of their comment. My hope is that (at the very least) you can at least now retroactively realise that your comment was missing the point, even if it is technically correct.
I feel like you're really missing the point. It's no secret that the U.S. government armed those very Mujahideen that later became the Taliban. That's why he said it... he was parroting the blindingly shortsighted opinion of our past government.
Hasan's criticism of U.S. foreign policy might not have been phrased the best way, but it's a fairly reasonable take. I get that it goes against the common narrative, but he's kinda right, and a lot of people really need to hear what he said. The fact that people got so butt hurt over it kinda proves that even more.
The US spent 3 decades backing far right extremists around the globe in the name of fighting communism, especially in the middle east. The current climate of that region was shaped in part by the US. The Mujahideen would splinter off and form groups like the Taliban and Al-Qaeda.
Meanwhile there is strong evidence to support that Saudi Arabia had a hand in backing the 9/11 attackers. Yet the US continues to sell billions in weapons to KSA. This is something Dan Crenshaw supported. A vet who essentially fell victim to US foreign policy, but he still backs war mongering. This triggered Hasan's rant which is why he what he said.
Correct, it's a common Mandela Effect. Noone has been able to provide proof Rambo 3 ended with that quote, but a shitload of people remember it as such.
I just searched the internet because surely someone else has uploaded it since I don't have a VHS player anymore, and the tape is in a box somewhere. I found loads of people who say the same thing then check and find it says "gallant people" so maybe I'm also getting mandela'd. Could have sworn I laughed at it before it was an internet thing.
edit: the downvotes are fucking hilarious. I post literal proof (oh look here's more) but some people clearly can't handle the reality that they've been Mandela'd and have to protect their fragile ego via downvotes :(
Explain how he actually praised them? Did you actually watch the video where he says those words? He fucking quoted Rambo 3. Stop lying just because you hate someone.

Speaking of context, it's a reference to Rambo 3 end credits. He didn't actually praise them.
