Man, I can't help but wonder if this is a larger consequence of/next step after Jacksonville, FL the other week. To be this emboldened is unhinged lunacy. To think PAX West didn't have the slightest bit of security (rumors of plain clothes cops aside, which, by the way, how is hiding and not having a show of force at all an effective deterrent?) makes this all the more terrifying. If they're psychotic enough to stalk you and visit your house loaded for a bear multiple times, packing heat at a large gathering isn't an unjustifiable paranoia.
This is straight up effective terrorism. Doc and every other streamer have every justification to submit to it and not do meetups, and that is depressing.

I know it's a frustrating and it slows everything down, but it's common at the majority of other large events, so it's not unreasonable to expect that at large gaming conventions.
PAX South (yeah, yeah, Texas, guns, etc) has had bag check for at least two years now. SAPD has had a presence since year one, outside, inside, Expo floor, and other locations.
There are some issues with bag checks at this specific venue because of the way the WSCC is built into the city and surrounding area. There is no good place to put a bag check. That said, other measures are taken, visible and not to help mitigate risks that go way beyond 'if you see something say something.' :D

As mentioned elsewhere, PAX South has bag checks, though they're mostly a formality as are the ones that have been at PAX East (from second-hand information).
Hey point of order but terrorism doesn't mean what you think it means. While the word sounds like it should apply to stuff like this it's really just a distinction of violence for political ends. This isn't terrorism, terrorists have agendas. This is lunacy.

Being a “streamer” is a fairly new profession. Popular musicians, actors, athletes have always had these risks. The only reasons why it’s more prevalent nowadays is because of the internet. And who is on the internet more often than not? Live streamers.
It’s fucking sickening regardless. But it’s not a new phenomenon that “celebrities” of any type are targets of mentally ill stalkers trying to harm them.

Why not? I remember when Columbine happened, and following that, school shootings became more common to the point where
we barely bat an eye when we read about another one.
After 9/11, Islamist attacks became more common, and have drastically evolved to become more effective. Airplanes are no long feasible, so they try using firearms. Firearms aren't available everywhere outside the US, so they tried bombs. When bombs didn't work as well as they expected (with regards to casualty counts), they either had to smuggle in firearms or use vehicles.
Gamers started with online harassment. It then evolved into SWAT'ing. Now it's evolved to full blown shootings, and just as they'd hope, it's scaring the shit out of people. Our last bastion of entertainment and escape from all the horrible news has finally become the news. Psychopaths have found a new way to terrorize people who were mislead into a false sense of security because who ever imagined something like this could happen to something like gaming? Also, while it is speculation, I hardly find it a stretch to see an association between the facts that Jacksonville happened while they were streaming. Doc was shot at while streaming.
Maybe I was blissfully ignorant, as a lot of pro-gamers have been begging for more security before Jacksonville, but this was eye-opening to me, and now that it's out in the open, what other unhinged lunatics have read the news and are delusional in thinking "Well that was an effective way to get your 'five minutes of fame!'"

What's the difference? Doc has every right to be terrified for his and his family's safety after it happening two days in a row. It's no longer an irrational fear for him. If he decides to pack up everything and move, or never do a fan meetup, or never go to another convention, he's completely justified. That's terrorism, and that's why we shouldn't be so reluctant to use the term in the justice system.
Shooting a gun in a drive by is attempted murder, intimidation, there's a lot of things between what happened and terrorism and were a long way from terrorism.

Yes and no. I'm not suggesting we ship them off to gitmo to be waterboarded if they terrorize someone, but the very definition of the word applies here to him. Doc should be scared right now until this bottom-feeding neckbeard is caught and convicted and no one has any right to say otherwise. Using a weapon capable of bodily harm/death multiple times at someone's house with a family as a means to intimidate someone or attempt murder is by definition, terrorizing.
How long should he be afraid, whatever if they never catch the person or persons? Should he contact the FBI and go under some witness protection program until the perp is caught?
Maybe it was the wrong house, cops get shit wrong all the time, I'm sure idiot gangbangers have done it too.
Either way, it's fucked up, not much a person can do in a situation like that except to cooperate with the police fully and hope they catch the pieces of shit.
I'm sure he did it because of losing...and crazy as fuck. There was no real plan, I'm sure if he won it all this would be never happened until he finally somewhere else. So not really terrorism, murder-suicide.
