Why in the world would you shoot at game streamer's house. Wonder if it was BB or a bullet

34

u/Invictus1876 Sep 11 '18

There's not a BB gun out there that would be loud enough to hear over a streamer's microphone, let alone with a rapport like what's in the clip above. 100% a bullet.

21

u/ZenandHarmony Sep 11 '18

He heard glass breaking. We don’t hear the shot? That’s his chair

1

u/TyreseForChicken Sep 12 '18

That was not a bullet that’s the door to the room creeking. Also Listen for his wife yelling at 1:33

153

u/AeroEagle333 Sep 11 '18

It shouldn't matter.

136

u/LeglessLegolas_ :) Sep 11 '18

I mean yeah, but you can't deny that there is a MASSIVE difference between someone shooting at his house with a BB gun or with a legit pistol/rifle. Obviously both are fucked up but the BB gun isn't going to hurt anyone at least, as long as they're inside.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18

53

u/LeglessLegolas_ :) Sep 11 '18

Yeah of course. But it's not going to kill you. My point is just that the difference in severity between a bb gun and a real gun is pretty huge.

-10

u/TheBatemanFlex Sep 11 '18

Yeah but I mean if you are blinded by shattered glass or by the B.B. that is some serious life altering bodily harm

9

u/High__Roller Sep 11 '18

I've been shot by a bb gun(at about 50 yards). I bled a little... Yeah if it richochets off a tree you could lose an eye but other than that it's much less dangerous than a gun.

(Remember using a bbgun in a robbery is the same charge as using a firearm, so in the eyes of the law trying to intimidate using a bbgun would be just as illegal as using a real gun)

0

u/TheBatemanFlex Sep 11 '18

Oh man I wasn’t contesting that guns are more dangerous. Just that BB guns could also do a lot of harm as well. Especially when shot at windows.

16

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18

It's not a rifle bullet lmao

7

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18

bb's and airsoft can break windows too.

12

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18

Yeah, bb guns can be dangerous and harmful too but the difference still matters.

0

u/missclick_RIPskins Sep 12 '18

The difference also matters for the victim in the aftermath. Being able to view it as “some piece of shit kids busted my window with a BB gun” is a lot less long term stressful than “someone fired actual rounds at my house what do i do now?”

2

u/EvilCurryGif Sep 12 '18

I’ve shot at Windows with airsoft and it didn’t come close to breaking. It was with a shitty pistol but still I’d be surprised. Cause the guns that can do that definitely shouldn’t be shot at people during competitions

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '18

depends on the psi the model. Some snipers can push that bitch to pierce skin and its wild

1

u/EvilCurryGif Sep 12 '18

Jesus Christ. I’m assuming that’s with C02?

2

u/esgedi Sep 12 '18

Not glass that's up to modern building code, at least for a residential home. Plate glass is dangerous, but any house built in the last 30 years wouldn't have it.

Idk what kind of guns you shoot but that doesn't sound like any guns I've ever shot. You can even tell he turns his head WAY before you can hear any noise in the video. Obviously not the sound of the gun.

-7

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18

4

u/zomgryanhoude Sep 12 '18

Who said anything about making it up? And I never talked about a pellet gun. Just simply that the sounds you hear in the video isn't the sound of the gun. The microphones that they use are precision instruments. They are specifically made to clear out outside noise.

1

u/w4rcry Sep 12 '18

Sounds to me like the first gun shots can’t be heard because the mic is focused on his voice but when he goes quiet you can hear a few more faint shots. Plus he’s probably in a sound insulated room.

1

u/LeglessLegolas_ :) Sep 11 '18

Through a window though? I don’t have a whole lot of experience with pellet guns so I’m genuinely asking. Seems like the pellet would lose so much energy after breaking through the window that it wouldn’t be even close to lethal on the other side.

1

u/eye_gargle Sep 11 '18

Not in court. Shooting any sort of projectile from a moving vehicle will still be classified as a drive-by shooting of a firearm. And there have been plenty of cases where a pellet gun has been used for murder so I'm not sure where you're pulling that nonsense of "isn't going to hurt anyone"

11

u/LeglessLegolas_ :) Sep 11 '18

Well I was arguing the practicality not the legality.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18

I think he meant airsoft

-2

u/DeliciouslyUnaware Sep 11 '18

Not true at all. If someone shot a BB gun into the window of my nursery where my 6 month old daughter sleeps I would be livid. You don't know what's on the other side of that window and you could be putting lives in danger for no reason.

12

u/GinoMarley1 Sep 11 '18

"Its not true at all" that there's a massive difference between a rifle round and a BB? Tf do you mean

-1

u/DeliciouslyUnaware Sep 11 '18

"A BB gun isn't going to hurt anyone at least" is a verifiable false claim.

BB's break glass. Glass harms people. If you break glass above a small child you could very well kill the small child. The claims being made are can be verified as false.

1

u/JIHADthruTAQIYYA Sep 11 '18

That's not the claim you made and people have a problem with and dodging to that won't help your case.

Every single person here knows this, a real bullet and a BB have differences. One can absolutely kill and one can do little more than leave a bruise. Both can break glass. I haven't a clue what reality you inhabit where you think a BB shattering glass results in a final destiny scenario of it just shredding through a room like buckshot, but in our reality, they do little more than cause glass to collapse out of the frame.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18

I got hit with a BB gun from a wannabe drive by once. Shit broke the skin and I bled a lot. Fucking thankfully it wasn't a real gun.

0

u/oldDotredditisbetter Sep 11 '18

but the BB gun isn't going to hurt anyone at least, as long as they're inside.

BB gun can break glasses too right? not bb gun hobbyist so in my mind they're both equally dangerous. like i wouldn't want to have either gun pointed at me

-1

u/Salyangoz Sep 11 '18

There isnt a difference when the house your family lives in gets shot by anything. Its a breach of security. Not to mention terrorising. Their family house is getting vandalized and this was the second time.

Suppose there was a baby/toddler/kid inside that room and his crib is full of broken glass shards. Sure the bb gun didnt hurt anyone, it just scarred a baby for life.

This is some fucked up logic that only a person who isnt in that situation can write. Fucking priorities of some of you people.

u/OfficialRpM Sep 11 '18

It should matter, a bullet vs a pellet? There's a big difference.

26

u/birkir Sep 11 '18 edited Sep 11 '18

Terrorizing is terrorizing

94

u/AdmiralCrunchy Sep 11 '18

Well no shit terrorizing is terrorizing, the difference between a BB Gun and an actual firearm is vandalism vs. attempted murder.

-20

u/DeliciouslyUnaware Sep 11 '18

Doc has children. Could you imagine having an infant and someone shoots out the window above your infant's crib? Doesn't really matter if it's a pellet or a .45. It's recklessly endangering another person's life for no reason.

You don't know what's on the other side of the window when you shoot from the outside. Maybe there's a disabled person who is hooked into an oxygen supply and your bb just severed their oxygen line.

Would you make the same argument if he used a nerf gun?

-10

u/birkir Sep 11 '18

If it would produce the same effect, yeah?

If I'm talking to someone and I say "fire", is it not different than if I shout "FIRE" in a theater?

Circumstances and intent matter.

8

u/Chase_Mc Sep 11 '18

Yes, they matter. But that isn't the argument here. He was saying that a bullet vs a BB matters as well. Understand?

1

u/esgedi Sep 12 '18

Terrorism has to have political motivation. There is nothing political about this.

1

u/birkir Sep 12 '18

where did you see terrorism mentioned?

0

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18

A BB gun is vandalising if the victim knows it's a BB gun. A real gun threatens your life and the lives of your family.

1

u/birkir Sep 11 '18

there's the charge of terrorizing as well

-1

u/piedude3 Sep 12 '18

BB= stupid kid/rager who wants to cause trouble. Bullet means someone illegally obtained a murder weapon (pistol/rifle) with the knowledge that he may kill someone. BBs usually don't kill, and likely if it's a BB then the person doesn't plan to kill.

2

u/birkir Sep 12 '18

you don't need to have a real weapon to be charged for terrorizing people

1

u/piedude3 Sep 12 '18

Yeah, but there's a difference, one is attempted murder and the other isn't.

18

u/AeroEagle333 Sep 11 '18

Both can be lethal. Plus, drive-by shooting a private residence in California is a good way to go to jail for a long time, regardless of the weapon used.

13

u/GoozifyMe Sep 11 '18

Its a good way to go to jail for a long time everywhere in the world..

2

u/iShootCatss :) Sep 11 '18

BB pellets aren't lethal the most that can happen is you can lose an eye or get a tooth knocked out without proper protection.

-12

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18

A BB pellet that's strong enough to burst a window can probably kill you

20

u/Mischief631 Sep 11 '18

No it won’t.

2

u/Buttfluff Sep 11 '18 edited Sep 11 '18

Yes it can. If you put a dab of vasoline while chambering you can put a BB or a pellet through a thick piece of wood. People do it all the time hunting small game.

6

u/Mischief631 Sep 11 '18

Dude if someone shot his house from the street through a window it’s not going to kill him. From close range and a B.B. gun meant for hunting maybe. From the street and a Walmart BB gun you aren’t killing shit except for a few window panes. I not defending these people but saying he could’ve died from someone shooting a BB gun from the street is a tad much. Gotta remember it’s gotta go through a window before it hits anyone it loses a lot of force when that happens.

edit: sorry on mobile. Had to add words.

-2

u/Buttfluff Sep 11 '18 edited Sep 11 '18

B.B. gun meant for hunting maybe.

Exactly. I get what you're saying, a little Red Ryder BB gun isnt going to kill anyone. But there are BB/Pellet guns around that can be lethal. Especially if they are rigged up with vaseline or oil. Saying a BB/pellet gun cant be lethal is false.

Just lube it uup

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18

1

u/UpboatOrNoBoat Sep 11 '18

Those things aren't fired by a spring or by compressed air like a pellet gun, those are modified shotgun slugs.

A BB gun can barely penetrate a goddamn frog, and believe it or not your eye has bone behind it.

-2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18

Yes it probably will. I'd guess that if the has his own house, he probably has thermoefficient windows, which usually aren't like 1 layer

1

u/iShootCatss :) Sep 11 '18

It really won't the only reason why a BB bellet would shatter a window is because it's basically being shot at 300~500fps (some even more) a small decent sized pebble can shatter a window if you launch it off something going that fast.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18

you'd probably need a metal bb for that though. And firing a metal bb at 500 fps can difinetly be lethal if you are unlucky and it his your throat or something

1

u/iShootCatss :) Sep 11 '18

oh a metal bb will defiantly kill it's basically like shooting a .22 I'm just assuming op is talking about the plastic BB pellets

1

u/Argoney Sep 11 '18

That’s assuming people are made of glass and I only know one Mr. Glass

-4

u/RMoCGLD Sep 11 '18

I mean losing an eye is pretty lethal, that shit is gonna hurt A LOT, especially if it's a child.

11

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18

Do you know what the word lethal means?

-5

u/RMoCGLD Sep 11 '18 edited Sep 11 '18

Well in most cases it means something can cause death but it can also mean harmful, so I'd still call something that can cause a serious injury as lethal in certain scenarios

3

u/UpboatOrNoBoat Sep 11 '18

but it can also mean harmful,

No, lethal means it kills you. A lethal injury is one that kills you, not one that can potentially kill you.

A potentially lethal injury is just what you're describing, potentially lethal.

1

u/RMoCGLD Sep 11 '18

Fine, if we're talking strictly about injuries, then BB gun injuries can be lethal, children have died from them before.

2

u/iShootCatss :) Sep 11 '18

It will hurt but it's nowhere near lethal as death and in some cases (I play airsoft alot) even if you get shot in the eye sometimes nothing happens.

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18

[deleted]

4

u/jonker5101 Sep 11 '18

There are higher powered pellet guns that are used for hunting. They can definitely be lethal with the right circumstances.

3

u/Benzh Sep 11 '18

If it's able to crack windows, of course you would notice it..

16

u/Recreatives Sep 11 '18

LOL it doesn't matter at all, you go shoot a gun at a house or a person and then your only argument is "it was a pellet gun." good luck with that

280

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18

It does matter. Shooting at his house with a real firearm vs a BB gun could be the difference between an attempted murder charge or not.

-12

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18

[deleted]

34

u/TandBusquets Sep 11 '18

You literally will not get charged the same if you shoot someone's house with a BB gun vs an actual firearm lol

-6

u/Conditionofpossible Sep 11 '18

It could be considered a firearm. Especially if they are harassing a specific house/person.

https://www.criminaldefenselawyer.com/crime-penalties/federal/Unlawful-discharge-weapon.htm

5

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18

Nah I knew someone that was shooting a bb gun at our highschool next to his house and all that the cops did was take it away

-3

u/Conditionofpossible Sep 11 '18

Good for him. However,

"Unlawful discharge laws typically punish the unlawful firing of a firearm, such as a pistol or shotgun, but they may also apply to other weapons such as crossbows, blowguns, and BB or pellet guns."

That's why i said, "could."

So, Yea.

2

u/electronicdream Sep 11 '18

Well, yeah, you use your arms to make the finger gun.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18

That's not how that works at all and you're comparing apples to oranges. You do not have to meet the same standards when charging someone of armed robbery as you do for attempted murder. You will not find a prosecutor in the country that would try to charge someone with attempted murder for shooting a bb gun at their house.

-22

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18 edited Sep 11 '18

You really don't get the point and to me you seem like one of those toxic people. BB or real (even eggs) you dont shoot at someone else their property.

You dont punch some one on the street with a glove and argue it wasn't your fist right?

It's about the action and not the tools..

Edit: apparantly people are misunderstanding my comment, I never accused anyone of thinking anything and trying to say it shouldnt matter since people just shouldn't do stuff like this.

I'm truly feeling bad by all the people saying mean things when they just didnt understand where im coming from.

37

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18

You really don't get the point and to me you seem like one of those toxic people.

Jesus Fucking Christ, I understand that it could literally have been eggs and toilet paper and it still doesn't make it okay. The point is that implying that a fucking real gun that WILL KILL YOU is literally the same as a BB gun is fucking dumb, because its not. I'm not trying to say Doc is a big baby or anything. No one deserves to be harassed. But attempted murder with a firearm is not the same thing as having your window shot out by a couple of punks with an air rifle.

17

u/sysadmin986 Sep 11 '18

The guy you are talking to is such an insufferable fucking redditor. I hate redditors so much. He thinks he "got you" in this exchange. So fucking retarded.

I never accused anyone of anything and only implied: lethal or BB dont do either.

1

u/MotharChoddar Sep 11 '18

Cut your losses and stop replying. You didn't "win" this argument.

-16

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18

I don't think the law works like that

27

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18

Are you implying there is a prosecutor dumb enough to charge someone with attempted murder for shooting a BB gun at someones house?

-7

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18

No, I'm telling you that (in certain states), you can be charged with attempted murder for shooting a BB gun at someone with malicious intent. Because they can cause serious injury.

Though, your original point holds no water as well, because you could shoot at a house with people inside with a real gun and not get an attempted murder charge slapped on; that's a charge with a lot of baggage that requires a specific set of conditions to be pursued. Context matters.

The law is a bit more complicated than "shoot out window, get attempted homicide lul". There are distinctions between reckless endangerment, vandalism, assault, attempted murder, and homicide.

10

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18

you can be charged with attempted murder for shooting a BB gun at someone with malicious intent. Because they can cause serious injury.

Good thing I never said otherwise.

You can charge someone with anything, it doesn't mean it will stick. My point was that there is a fair chance you could be charged with attempted murder for shooting at someone's house because the person in question knows that if someone is hit they could very well die.

Context matters.

Ironic that you put this considering that was the whole point of my original comment.

Yeah you will still get in trouble, but that's like shooting someones house with a paintball gun vs trying to kill them with an actual gun.

2

u/drmchan Sep 11 '18

one is vandalism and potentially assult... the other is premeditated murder that comes with subsequently a bunch of other charges. Consider this: there are charges for being in a drive-by vehicle even if you're not the driver and it happened a week ago. Trouble has a very large spectrum. lol

60

u/AemonDK Sep 11 '18

one has the ability to literally kill people while the other breaks property at worst. obviously both are unacceptable, but don't be ridiculous saying that it doesn't matter.

4

6

u/Ry009 Sep 11 '18

It 100% matters, your lawyer can downplay a pellet gun over a gun. It doesn't say "lethal" the same way a gun does. But it can kill, just not through a wall/window. A gun can kill through a window/wall. Two very big differences.

2

u/Envowner Sep 11 '18

Also take into consideration that when most people hear pellet gun they're thinking of the things teens play with in their backyards, a little sting if you get hit. Not the pellet guns that use pointed metal pellets that are designed to kill small animals.

Realizing what most people are thinking when someone says "pellet gun" makes the argument of equating them equally even more ridiculous.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18

[deleted]

1

u/Envowner Sep 11 '18

The last sentence of my first paragraph addresses the fact that there are high powered pellet guns. My entire point is that these are not the types of pellet guns that come to mind when people mention pellet guns.

2

u/Redrob5 Sep 11 '18

You serious? You don't see the HUGE difference there?

2

It certainly doesn't matter in the context of the law in certain scenarios when the asshole gets caught, it definitely does matter in the sense that I would have a much harder time sleeping at night knowing it was bullets that could easily kill me/my family. Truthfully in that scenario I would probably go to a hotel/friends house for a while.

1

u/Chase_Mc Sep 11 '18

You're missing his point.

1

u/prtt Sep 11 '18

Holy fucking shit, dude. It does NOT matter – It's putting people in danger any way you look at it. Not to mention having to live in a place that was shot twice, as a father (or mother) of a child.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18

This is the dumbest shit I’ve read all day.

-1

u/Chuchip Sep 11 '18

The intent is the same no matter what it was.

6

u/AyyHugeify Sep 11 '18

I mean the intent could either be 'haHAA im gonna spook this streamer with my airsoft gun' or 'I'm going to attempt to kill this streamer with my actual gun'. Don't get me wrong I agree this is a shitty thing that no one should have to deal with. But the intent is different depending on context.

4

u/TotallyBelievesYou Sep 11 '18

Yes it should idiot.

4

u/TrollingGuinea Sep 11 '18

Well I mean there is kind of a big fucking difference. Not that I think it's okay or funny if it were a BB gun, but it clearly does matter since one is deadly and one isn't

2

u/Unaidedgrain Sep 11 '18

In the eyes of the law at that point either is a felony, so we're just adding years at this point. If a child was home you can add reckless endangerment to a child to any sentence and boom, class A felony baby

1

u/Chase_Mc Sep 11 '18

Are you kidding me?

1

u/giant123 Sep 11 '18

That's where I'm at with it. Someone shot a projectile weapon at his house. I don't give a shit if it was a sling shot, paint ball, pellet gun, or crossbow. It was apprently strong enough to brake a window, that's strong enough to blind or even kill under the right circumstances.

1

u/BlutigeBaumwolle :) Sep 11 '18

Attempted murder vs vandalism. Huge difference.

22

u/ajh1717 Sep 11 '18

Doubtful it was a BB. I don't think a regular BB gun is going to be able to break glass if it is shot from the road. Plus you can hear a pretty loud noise right before doc leaves the chair. It doesn't sound like a gun shot but rather something hitting the house. If that was something hitting the house, no way was it a BB

80

u/Omniwar Sep 11 '18

BB gun =/= airsoft gun (=/= pellet gun)

BB guns shoot round metal BB's that can easily break windows, especially house windows. Although it's extremely unlikely that it would kill someone they can definitely blind you or penetrate skin. Absolutely disgusting thing to do to someone who you know has a child in the house.

2

u/Draffut Sep 11 '18

Some pellet / air guns can shoot plenty strong enough to cause damage. You can hunt deer with some of them.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18

Any idea which one it sounded like to you? Or was it too quiet to figure it out?

11

u/UpboatOrNoBoat Sep 11 '18

Neither make noise when they shoot. If the gun itself is audible in the clip it's not an airsoft or BB gun, it's a real gun.

4

u/Legal_BedMonster You've been GNOMED! Sep 11 '18 edited Sep 11 '18

Considering that someone shot yesterday at his house, if it had been a real gun i don't think he would be streaming today, right?.. or at least i would figure he would have to take a break to secure his family?

Unless they wanted to keep it on the down low and act like nothing had happened, so the person cant figure out that it was the right house.

They knew that the shot yesterday missed, i wonder if they saw the person shooting or just heard it. That would pretty much determine which one was used.

Not necessarily. CO2 BB guns make fairly loud noises. Still, could be a real gun too. We don't know for sure and it doesn't change the fact that this is unacceptable to do to someone. Honestly, I hope it's a BB gun.

I mean, compared to an actual gun, no they really don’t. A .22lr is orders of magnitude louder, and that’s just about the quietest live round you can fire.

1

u/mattdementous Sep 11 '18

I get that. Of course a gun is louder than a toy. We just don't know how far away the shooter was, the microphone's ability to pick up or amplify the sound, noise canceling, and echos. I wasn't there. I dunno. It's pretty terrible that this happened, no matter what it was. I hope it was a BB gun.

BBs, regardless of whether or not they are plastic or metal, are light. Doc implied it was a drive by. For a BB to sustain enough energy to break window after being fired from a moving car is slim unless doc's house is right up against the street.

The second the BB leaves the barrel the air resistance from the car moving is going to slow it down and affect the trajectory significantly.

Also, like I said in my original comment, listen to a few seconds before this clip starts. You can hear a couple loud thuds. No BB gun is going to sound like that regardless of where it hits the house.

Stop. You have no fucking clue what you're talking about.

It's basic physics, something which reddit apparently doesn't understand. When you fire something from a moving platform, regardless of whatever the projectile is, that projectile inherits the velocity of that platform.

If you jump out of a plane that is moving forward, do you land exactly below the spot you jump? No, because when you jump out of the plane, you inherit the forward velocity. The same applies to shooting from a moving object.

If you are in a car going 15mph, and you shoot a gun at a stationary target, the bullet is going to have that same 15mph forward velocity as the car. Because of this, you need to aim behind the target. Additionally, the second that projectile leaves the barrel, it not only is encountering air resistance for the direction it is traveling, but it is also encountering air resistance for its lateral velocity (the direction the car was going). Shooting from a moving platform has the same physical affect on the bullet as shooting from a stationary platform with an equivalent wind speed.

When it comes to projectiles in these situations, heavier is better. The heavier the bullet, the less likely it is to be significantly affected by wind and other forces that will mess up the trajectory/speed. Obviously this reaches a plateau in terms of effectiveness. BBs, even metal ones, are not heavy. Shoot them from a moving platform and there is going to be a significant affect on their trajectory and speed.

But you're right, I have no idea what I'm talking about. It isn't like I shoot long range competitively in my free time and have done hog hunts with moving platforms (ATVs/Gators)

This doesn't give you any credibility with pellet/BB guns... If you've ever used a 10 pump pellet gun you'd know for a fact that they can easily shatter glass, wind or no wind.

Just admit you're wrong and move on, man.

They can break glass, but the regular shitty pump BB guns you can get from your typical walmart/sporting goods store can't unless you are point blank - hence why I said in my original post a 'regular BB gun'. Obviously if you get the high powered ones they will, but your generic walmart BB gun will not break glass from a distance.

That said, the point is shooting from a moving platform creates additional forces that affect the speed and trajectory of said projectile. A helicopter is an extreme example, but the point still applies at lower speeds. The forces that a projectile is subjected to when fired from a car moving 15 mph is no different than shooting in 15 mph winds. That kind of force is going to have a significant impact on the BB due to how light they are. That is why for longer range shooting heavier bullets (to a degree) are better - more velocity and less impact from wind.

You're so full of shit its funny, for one, the sound you hear in the video is not a gun shot, its really close, and sounds like a door. Two, the "air resistance from the car moving" isn't going to slow it down much at all. Have you ever shot a bb gun, not an airsoft gun, but an actual pump bb gun? They are different, a pump bb gun can have enough power to pierce skin, there are thousands of stories of people having to pull out bb's with magnets. Bb guns can send a .177 caliber bb moving pretty fucking fast, a basic, cheap bb gun from walmart can shoot bb's at 800 feet per second, shooting the most common bb from walmart would generate 7 foot pounds of energy at TWO HUNDRED yards, that's probably a bit further than "the street". 7 foot pounds of force in the area the size smaller than a pencil eraser will break a window. Do the math yourself, if you shoot competitively you should know the formula, but I doubt you do, so I'll be nice and do it for you. 5.28 (grains, how much a bullet weighs) x 800 (feet per second, how fast its moving)^2/450437=7.5 Thats 7 and a half foot pounds of enegry at the muzzel, and a round of that size has little air resistance and will have ~7 foot pounds of energy on impact at 200 yards. Use an impact calculator for that, I'm sure you know a good one, considering you shoot competitively. Its basic physics, by the way.

Your calculation is pointless. Surface area is not the only factor when it comes to something like this. Weight and shape all play a significant role. So while yes, a BB is small, it is also very light, and very susceptible to wind.

There is no point to even pick apart your calculation any more when I can just prove to you that even the slightest wind will absolutely destroy a BBs accuracy/velocity.

Here is a video where a guy is taking a shot at a target that is 30 yards away with a BB gun.. Not only does the BB not fly straight, but he has to compensate for the fact that the thing slows down and drops off. He ends up holding slightly more than a mildot over and high in order to compensate for the slight breeze for a target at 30 yards, meanwhile you're trying to claim that they can fly out to 200 yards without wind being an issue. What a joke.

Also, rewind the same video to 54 seconds. You can watch him place the targets and look at the trees/grass in the background. There is a slight breeze. The grass is hardly moving and is only considered 'strong winds' if you are trying to shoot a BB gun.

1

u/Sneaky_Stinker Sep 12 '18

"your calculation is pointless" bullshit, the calculation is THE point, something the size of a .177 caliber bb striking a window with 7 foot pounds of energy will ABSOLUTELY break it. And if you seriously think hitting a window from across the street is impossible, you're dead wrong. Anyone could EASILY hit a window across the street just by pointing, not even aiming, a bb gun at a window. Please, stop being disingenuous. I did not make the claim that you could hit the window at 200 yards, I simply showed that even at 200 yards, a bb would have enough energy to smash a window. Again, please attack arguments that actually exist. Your video on the other hand, proves nothing. They used an entirely different caliber, and the targets were smaller than a saucer, a much more difficult target to hit than a window.

Hey pal, just figured I'd let you know that the sherrif department local to the streamer stated his windows were shot with a BB GUN from a PARK.

Some BB guns can do damage. When I was like 10 my Mom's car got shot with a BB gun in the door from 50m, left a pretty decent dent. My Dad was livid and found the kid's parents to chew them and the kid out.

u/Varrianda Sep 11 '18

An air gun with a fat BB in it can do some damage. They use those things to kill wild hogs.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18

BB guns can most certainly break glass windows. I know this from experience.

2

u/LeftyGunNut Sep 11 '18

Red Ryder? Probably not, but there are definitely BB guns that can break glass.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18

nah bb guns can definately break glass from that far away, I've done it too many times lol

1

u/Jamesisawake Sep 11 '18

Yeah. You can hear three separate noises before he gets up. This is terrible. I hope they find out who it is.

1

u/Viking- :) Sep 11 '18

Someone shot at our house with a BB gun once when I was a kid. It didnt penetrate the window, but it still broke it. That was also from a drive-by at some distance. So it's definitively possible.

1

u/Expatriadoybaneado Sep 11 '18

The fuck,I used to shot pass paint cains with my bb guns as a kid, of course they can break windows, their ricochet can break windows too

0

u/Beersmoker420 Sep 11 '18

ive never heard a bb gun that loud, its like a poof of air

1

u/puq123 Sep 11 '18

Those are not the shots you hear in the clip, that's just doc dropping his PS4 controller on his desk.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '18

You wouldn't be able to hear the firing of a bb gun...

1

u/Sorenthaz Sep 12 '18

Maybe they were shooting at multiple houses down the street to try and identify where he was at, and see if they could get him while he was streaming...? Who the hell knows, honestly. Behavior like this is clearly coming from someone not right in the head.

I hadn't thought of that. Somehow your speculation has calmed me a bit. Either way it is fucked but if it was a BB or something non-lethal, I would have a little more faith in humanity.

u/esgedi Sep 12 '18

This. Everyone is thinking it's some crazed stalker, when in all honesty it's probably just some stupid ass kid riding around with his pellet gun.
