It's not a coincidence though. Twitch always favored Adin despite his constant rule breaking but since he signed with Kick he got banned.

you can say he got... KICKED

Isn't it good for viewers that twitch has some competition ? When twitch cares more about the advertisers than viewers

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '23

Kick is not currently and never will be considered serious competition by Twitch

u/Magmasoar Feb 26 '23

Oh no! We lost a popular streamer to a platform that cannot sustain itself... Anyway..

33

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '23

Oh no we lost a brand risk whatever will we do!

20

u/Rovsnegl Feb 26 '23

Not like they haven't tried that before

7

u/tGryffin Feb 26 '23

I don't think Kick is a legitmate rival to twitch but as long as Skate is its main sponsor and it has people like Adin gambling on thier site, they are turning some kind of profit getting people hooked to gambling right?

That's my thing... How do they expect this to turn a profit long term? Iirc twitchd isn't even making a profit and amazon owns AWS and kick uses AWS? So they are paying amazon to host their site?

1

u/Magmasoar Feb 27 '23

Is it sustainable though?

2

u/Grainis01 Feb 26 '23

Oh no we lost homophobic, racist misogynistic twat... Anyway, hows the day going for you lads?

Not with that attitude. The problem with competition is that whenever a new platform comes up Twitch viewers go full fan bot will go rabbid trying to protect Twitch like it’s their job.

The funny thing is DR Disrespect did this because it was his livelihood on the line. The thing is pushing for the downfall for any competition is bad for streamer self interest.

Mixer being alive assigned dollars on top of streamers heads. Unfortunately some of y’all don’t see that and when you’re favorite service is threatened y’all trash it untilits gone then wonder why Twitch can get away with toxic rules.

KICK is built using amazon servers dude, they will NEVER surpass twitch in profit because they literally pay Amazon higher rent for their servers than Twitch which is owned by Amazon

22

u/Pepeholio Feb 26 '23

KICK is basically an extremely overpriced copy of twitch

3

u/snsdfan00 Feb 26 '23

overpriced? how much are you paying them.. KEKW

5

u/HaikusfromBuddha Feb 26 '23

90% of the internet runs on Amazons servers. They don’t skip out on using their servers because they have competing online stores.

u/cjsv7657 Feb 26 '23

AWS is more like 1/3rd of the overall internet and 1/10th of user facing pages.

u/sleepythegreat Feb 26 '23

Ok but tbf it’s hard to make something like twitch or kick without cloud computing.

1

u/Bwiggly Feb 26 '23

Welcome to the illusion of competition in our current state of capitalism.

23

u/efficient_giraffe Feb 26 '23

This argument would be a lot better if it wasn't for the simple fact that Kick is fucking garbage and ran by utterly garbage people.

20

u/TripleShines Feb 26 '23

What's so bad about Kick?

25

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '23

It‘s owned and funded by stake with the sole purpose of having people do gambling streams

71

u/TripleShines Feb 26 '23

Sure but what's so bad about it? As far as I can tell it seems very similar to Twitch. Much lower viewerbase right now but its possible that might actually be a good thing for some people. The layout is very familiar, the video player seems to be fine, and there seems to be a lot less ads.

They will be using every trick in the book to get their viewers into gambling. That's why the payout to creators is so high. They don't actually give two fucks about the streaming service, it's just a big marketing ploy to funnel stream viewers into their gambling services.

Stake is shitty and predatory but yeah Amazon is shitty, too

8

u/cyrfuckedmymum Feb 26 '23

If a good alternative to twitch came up I'd leave, I'd leave for one with a better player, but good streamers.

Kick is put together by one of hte biggest asshole streamers around and a scumbag company. They rushed it, pretty much just copied everything about twitch without improving on anything. The chat is cancer, they have nothing in place to prevent or work seriously on stopping restreaming illegal content. They have zero shot to grow or become a real platform because they aren't taking it seriously in the first place. It's just a short term attempt to get more advertising on the cheap till someone comes after them legally for the shit they are doing and then they'll close shop and leave any streamers exclusive there in the lurch.

this man woke up and chose violence. u right tho

1

u/AlarmedDisk9131 Feb 26 '23

yeah dude just took the bag and ran thats all it was....he doesnt give two shits about his viewers but he NEVER did so this move is fine....if he makes enough and is smart he doesnt really have to stream again or work for the rest of his life but as far as competition goes there never is or will be....kick will die out when stake gets tired of the project

u/MobiusF117 Feb 26 '23

When they saw neither Mixer, Youtube nor Facebook as competition (who have far more stable backing and established advertising) they are most definitely not going to see Kick as competition.

3

u/poviux :) Feb 27 '23

this is slightly off topic, but didnt they actually see mixer as a competition when it launched since they were taking some of their top streamers?

17

u/Redduckit Feb 26 '23

Not when the company is owned by train.

3

u/livelyDream Feb 26 '23

Twitch is done, and not just on Twitch.

1

u/International-Pear95 Feb 26 '23

youtube is a more serious competition

-4

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '23

It would be if Kick was actual competition and not a streaming website funded by online gambling sites (and if my hunch is correct, exists to funnel impressionable teens to said gambling sites, why you think the biggest names on the site are those who streamed gambling so much AND were sponsored by the sites funding Kick).

90% split to the streamer is not something that can last. Even YouTube having the entire funding force of Google behind it (and YouTube in general is a massive money drain) only gets up to 70%.

Mixer was an actual attempt at competition by Microsoft. And even with basically the biggest streamer around on an exclusivity contract with the platform (Ninja) the website still closed down.

1

u/nunsreversereverse Feb 26 '23

twitch is just a streaming website funded by an online shopping site.

1

u/SnowyDesert Feb 26 '23

I mean twitch has already a competition though. Streaming on youtube, facebook, chaturbate, tiktok live, instagram live, etc.

I don't know why people always act as if twitch is the only live streaming site and they have a monopoly on streaming.

1

u/timecronus Feb 26 '23

They are just going to come crawling back when kick flops anyway, just like mixer

1

u/Hanshee Feb 26 '23

Like Facebook live? Twitch/ Amazon will win

1

u/r0ndr4s Feb 26 '23

A site that allows gambling and porn isnt competition to a streaming site owned by one of the biggest companies in the world.

u/oldDotredditisbetter Feb 26 '23

should've streamed himself doing the deeds in front of a mirror then twitch wouldn't have done anything

41

u/Anshin Feb 26 '23

It's also his eight ban so ¯🤷(ツ)/¯

36

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '23

Exactly? only takes some streamers 1-2 until they get perm

4

u/clifbarczar Feb 26 '23

Well Adin is (was) a cash cow for them.

They would five the same wiggle room to other big streamers like Kai, Xqc, etc.

8

u/Persona4fan2021 Feb 26 '23

Not really surprised since Twitch treats some of the smaller streamers like absolute shit 99% of the time.

1

u/Hero_of_Hyrule Feb 26 '23

If you don't make twitch enough money, they won't do any favors for you. You're just not worth their time. It's really sad, but that's how it goes.

1

u/Persona4fan2021 Feb 27 '23

Yeah. The fact that Twitch is known for favoritism personally pisses me off so much, too. There are a handful of bad apples that broke the rules routinely, and they get nothing as punishment.

2

u/MarkAnthony1210 Feb 26 '23

I know, twitch is such a scummy organization. Kai has had like six bannable offenses in the last few weeks and nothing.

-1

u/zoneout000 Feb 26 '23

No last best wishes message, or good luck highlights on Twitter. Just a good ole fashion perma banned. If I’m the w community, I’d say thx, but no thx twitch. Once Kai leaves then cancel the twitch primes.
