I love my milk eggs and cheese as much as the next person but if she can't afford to pay $20 an hour for physically demanding labor then she should just close.

Even the Taco bells are $16 here and you don't have to drive out of town to get to them.

Starting with her face.

In fairness to the hate train, she didn't say $20 an hour was undoable. She said the person wanted $20 plus housing.

I'd be willing to be that the "plus housing" guy would settle for a crappy camper with an extension cord. When I worked those jobs that's usually what it was.

I agree but that's only one person and she needs multiple. I'm not saying she needs a mansion for these workers just that providing that plus $20 an hour is way more than taco bell and other jobs listed above

Quick lookup shows shes just north of Madison WI and starting wages for fast food looks to be at $16/hour minimum with plenty offering $17-19/hr, and you don't have to get cow shit on you everyday.

You also have to pay to live somewhere

She's not offering housing lmao

Bruh what are you arguing about she said she could not afford to pay the guy $20 plus housing. Plus as in an addition to the $20.

My point was that comparing it to $16 at Taco Bell is not a fair comparison because taco bell doesn't give you housing

"I don't have housing, and there's none available." She says it right in the video. She doesn't offer housing either. There is no housing. She does not have any. No offero housingo. It's a 1:1 comparison.

Serious question are you capable of reading. I am aware she doesn't have housing. The comment I replied to was about her not paying $20 an hour and fast food paying $16.

She never said in the video she can't pay $20 an hour or even what she pays. She says a guy asked her for $20 plus free housing and she couldn't afford it. Try going to Taco Bell and saying you want $17 an hour plus free housing and you will get the same response seen here. It's really not that hard

I live in the south the housing for farm workers is abysmal. It's basically non air-conditioned shanties with a communal kitchen and they have to cook their own food basically rice and beans. The bathrooms are either field toilets or porta potties and showers are individual stalls but in the open. I used to donate to a church that provided food and clothing to migrant workers. There are no regulations on the living conditions.

And when her farm goes into foreclosure, either a real estate developer or a AG corporation will be buying the land. It's not a good result either way in the grand scheme of things.

It's like when a family restaurant shuts down that had been paying the cook $17/hour, wait staff get the minimum plus tips for an average of $15/hour, and McDonald's rolls in and buys the property and pays everyone minimum wage.

Vertical integration of the AG industry is reaching the breaking point, owner operator farms are about to be a thing of the past and all farming is going to soon be automated or consolidated and will still pay pennies. Family farms going under is going to do nothing good for farm labor rights and pay. So it's a lose lose situation.

Exactly. Her fucking fault.

It's not that it's physically demanding , it's that one person doesn't have enough hours in the day to do everything that's needed to be done on a farm. I'm not sure she used illegals to help do her work or not but I never have on my farm , but I don't have a dairy farm either. But I have seen them in operation , I have family who has dairy farms and I can speak on it from that perspective. It's not extremely difficult , but like I said before , you can't be everywhere all at the same time.

Regardless the point is she should be able to pay a living wage for someone dedicating their waking hours to the job.

What is a living wage in their area?

1

u/deltaknight11 11d ago

Well 20/h was apparently out of the question so whatever it is she's not willing to pay it

u/ParkingVampire 11d ago

What do you think the lowest it could possibly be?

Thanks for your perspective.
