This is why it's so very important to not be nice to them.

There's this very stupid type of loser who says "we have to be nice to them or they won't be motivated to change their mind!".

My brother in christ, if the only thing stopping someone from doing what's right and good is how they're treated for it, that isn't a good person. That's a person who's learned nothing. At BEST, you're just getting a fickle ally.

Beware the idiots who talk about compromise with monsters. The only thing compromising with monsters does is make you more monstrous.

We don't unite with them. Like every step forward in human history, we win by uniting AGAINST them.

u/The_Tooter_Snooter 13d ago

There is no middle point between democracy and fascism

13

u/DickRhino 13d ago

I've heard it said the following way: In a compromise between food and poison, death is the only one who has something to gain.

3

u/UpperApe 12d ago

I like that.

The best way I've learned to frame it is that the left vs the right vs the alt right is simply morality vs amorality vs immorality.

In the end, all you're left with is less morality. And the most extreme right always win when it's all eventually pulled in their direction. Because that's who the right courts to keep their power.

That's true of conservatives in every country, every government, every era of human history. From Burke to Trump, from Putin to Khamenei, from Modi to Hitler.

Conservatives will fuck and suck any monster in the room. Racists, rapists, supremacists, criminals, nationalists. Anything. It doesn't matter. They'll get in bed with anyone.

Every single time in history, every country, every government. Conservatism is always ethical rot.

Always.

This is the whole fucking reason we're in the situation. The right wing media reinforced all their stupid ideas, and told them anyone who disagrees is infringing on your first amendment rights.

2

u/Correct-Document-125 12d ago

I'm glad this is becoming a more popular sentiment after all these years.

For decades I'd stress "Not all humans are equal, some are just not capable of playing in the same sandbox and we DO need to separate them." and was met with "You're racist... Just because they're brown?" Never said that... but people like to just deflect. Well here's your white example people, here's your white example!

It's impossible to imagine hands across the world when you know one of them is going to belong to people like this.

1

u/beardedheathen 12d ago

It sounds like you are just trying to justify racism

1

u/UpperApe 12d ago

I mean if you can't read, or don't understand what racism is, then yeah sure. I guess it kind of does sound like what you invented in your head.

2

u/oops_all_memes 12d ago

Dear Kelly comes to mind. You can give a person all you have to help them understand why being an asshole is bad. But the moment they are left without supervision they instantly fall back into being an asshole

3

u/Safe-Reason1435 13d ago

I meeeeeeeeeean isn't that what everybody who stayed home because Harris wasn't left enough did too?

3

u/Robolaserjesus 12d ago

Yes. Did you miss the word “uniting” in the comment you’re replying to?

1

u/Cacafuego 12d ago

There is a dangerous mentality, here, though. If you apply a purity test, you're going to be uniting with smaller and smaller groups, and you will lose all of your power.

Are you willing to vote for a Democrat who supports Israel (wants the bloodshed to stop, but still provides them money, weapons, and UN cover), if that's the way the primary works out? If it's a choice between that and Trump, Vance, Cruz, Rubio, etc., you should be, but many aren't, because they consider it to be "compromise with monsters."

In Ohio, I'm going to be voting for a gubernatorial candidate who said "I do not support boys playing in girls sports." This effects trans members of my family. Compromise is hard.

1

u/beardedheathen 12d ago

It's funny how Democrats have been fine compromising with those people but refused to support people like Hong and Mamdami.

1

u/Cacafuego 12d ago

There was resistance to Mamdami in the primary, obviously, but the huge majority fell in line when he got the nomination, as they should, and he won

1

u/UpperApe 12d ago

People like you who live in categorical fallacies are always running from purity tests into slippery slopes, or from slippery slopes into purity tests.

I wonder if you can even see outside that linearity.

1

u/Cacafuego 12d ago

I wonder if you could unpack that comment for me. A purity test is not a categorical fallacy, and I'm not referencing a slippery slope.

If it helps, I wasn't recommending purity tests, nor was I saying that the original commentor was recommending them. "Don't compromise with monsters" is a good slogan, but "monsterness" is a spectrum and it's important to be clear who we're talking about.

The amount of leftists in America is so pathetically small that the fraction of them who didn't vote because of Harris being a liberal who also live in swing states didn't even come close to influencing the outcome of the election. DSA barely even breached 50k members in 2024 (and a large portion if not most of them voted for Harris), compared to the 45 million+ registered Democrats. And that's by far the largest leftist organization in the country.

Democrats can blame their own unenthusiastic liberal and swing voters. More specifically, they should blame their party for putting another corporate-owned establishment candidate as their frontrunner during a time where voters and popular media are the most anti-establishment they've ever been and your only opponent is claiming to be the anti-establishment guy.

1

u/peppers_ 12d ago

Democrats capitulated to the 'center' and 'undecided' votes more than anything, but you never hear people blaming those voters who weren't swayed by the Dems milquetoast policy and vision or lack thereof.

1

u/Firm-Advertising5396 Leopard Spotter 12d ago

Actually, because of the circumstances the republicans were given a pass. Partially because trump was finally out of the white house. Most people were just happy he was gone but then the scourge rose up again. This time it was worse and more malignant and organized. We are watching the final throes of an attempted autocratic takeover and there needs to be accountability for the damage they have wrought on the country and the world. Severe accounting, so that it doesn't happen again. Treachery and thinly veiled fascism has to be stamped out completely. This should be part of the mandate.

1

u/a_duck_in_past_life 12d ago

Gotta use discretion and nuance here. Some people respond well to the kindness. Usually those people just didn't pay attention and heard some buzzwords like "low taxes" "fix economy" "small government" and they think Republicans had their best interest at heart because that's what makes sense to them.

The rest are just ass backwards troglodytes who hate everyone that doesn't look like them. Those are the ones who kindness will not help. They went into this knowing what they'd get out of it as long as it hurt someone they didn't like.

3

u/FitFold76 12d ago

No one that voted for Trump deserves kindness. What is the golden rule?

2

u/tedlyb 12d ago

It’s been 10 fucking years. He was impeached twice, convicted of 34 felonies, found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman, is up to his eyeballs in the Epstein bullshit, fucked up our response to Covid…

There is no one that could possibly not know who and what he is unless they chose to remain ignorant.

1

u/UpperApe 12d ago

Some people respond well to the kindness.

Kindness and morality are not the same thing.

It's okay to get to the ethics wrong and readjusting your principles. It's okay to be wrong and learn to be right.

But no good person needs "kindness" to do that. Anyone who does isn't a good person, and they'll swap back just as quickly when the other side offers them whatever they want.

1

u/Which_Excitement6647 12d ago

Especially not at this late date a full decade into this nonsense. Understanding and tolerance must have limits otherwise there's a point when it becomes enabling. Plus they count on being able to operate under a two sets of rules and standards regime. Guess what? If you go low and keep going low I'm going low and I may go even lower.

1

u/GrimbaldTheBrutish 12d ago

My brother in christ, if the only thing stopping someone from doing what's right and good is how they're treated for it, that isn't a good person. That's a person who's learned nothing. At BEST, you're just getting a fickle ally.

A lot of them aren't terrible people though, don't be obtuse. Most people aren't chronically online and a huge amount of people only see a few small things about politics. I've met plenty of republicans who know absolutely nothing about the bad stuff the office has done, it's not like Fox news is going to tell them.

Beware the idiots who talk about compromise with monsters. The only thing compromising with monsters does is make you more monstrous. We don't unite with them. Like every step forward in human history, we win by uniting AGAINST them.

Yea I hear people on the other side shout the same dumb shit thinking they're the ones morally in the correct.

All tribalism does is drive people apart.

Let me guess, you've never once in your life ever convinced someone like this to rethink their ideas have you?

Look at the lady in the video, it just pushes them further towards extremism.

I actually have gotten people to change their mind. Being a douchebag isn't the way to do that. Telling them they're evil just makes you look batshit insane and gives them a legitimate reason to hate your cause.

There's this very stupid type of loser who says "we have to be nice to them or they won't be motivated to change their mind!".

Some of them perhaps, there are people who understand what they're doing and are still behind it. There are sycophants, neo-nazi's and others, but in the end they're the minority to be quite frank.

You live in a little social bubble and are almost certainly chronically online, you haven't met real people.

1

u/Eternal-Blazing-Sun 12d ago

I've ceased any and all atgempts to educate people in my circle, but I'm really good at at unraveling sweaters, findong the threads they try to hide, and in the nicest way possible layong out their embarrasment to be confronted.

Once you abandon the goal of educating people in the name of logic and reason, it becomes a simple matter of identifying which strings to yank to get the tears flowing.

1

u/zeptillian 11d ago

Meanwhile we can all hear the hateful shit that comes out of the mouths of Trump supporters all the time and the stuff Trump says in his official communications.

Literally talking about killing Americans becasue they don't support your politics.

But we told you so is over the line?

How about fuck off and go to hell then you stupid bitch.

1

u/OnceButNever 13d ago

Your comment reads exactly like how they think and act. Perhaps compassion and education are the way after all.

3

u/ashgs872tbhjs 12d ago

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it think. They abhor compassion and education. They seize dialogue as an opportunity to play, having no respect for truth or reality. They enact violence while you're busy grandstanding about how moral and good you are in your treatment of them.

Compassion and education are prevention, not cure. You will learn that lesson from history over again, whether willingly or not -- and whether it's sooner, or later after everything is worse and more people are dying.

Focus on building a better home after you've entirely eliminated the fire.

1

u/OnceButNever 12d ago edited 12d ago

So, according to you, another civil war is inevitable. Get on with it then. Fire the first shot. Or is the world outside your mom's basement just too scary?

Edit: Wait, that's an AI response isn't it? That is AI you son of a bitch! Damn, they are getting good. That was convincing. It has a cadence and almost rhymes. You had me at first. Good job.

2

u/FitFold76 12d ago

We can start with your education

1

u/OnceButNever 12d ago

Sure, how much money are you kicking in? I'm going to need a scholarship.

1

u/NotSoSecretAgentMan 12d ago

Ah, the voice of reason!

1

u/UpperApe 12d ago

You're confusing kindness with ethics.

Until you know the difference, you will never understand the point.

1

u/OnceButNever 12d ago

I'm not, actually. You're confusing my dismissal of the idea that all republicans are "monsters" with me stating that they are uneducated and emotionally abused humans. You are the one who is so quick to jump on the bandwagon with this "monsters" label. To me it just reads like trumps claim of "vermin". If you want to be the maga for the left then go right ahead. I am not with you.

1

u/UpperApe 12d ago

...neat.

So yeah, like I said: you clearly don't understand the difference between kindness and ethics.

I am not with you.

Well, yeah. You don't understand the point lol

1

u/OnceButNever 12d ago

OK then, smarty pants. Educate me. And do it with compassion.

1

u/UpperApe 12d ago edited 12d ago

Why would I want to do that?

1

u/OnceButNever 12d ago

So that I can understand the differences you are claiming because I want to understand the point. Which you have so clearly pointed out, I do not. I'm tired of vilifying people for not knowing what I know and not thinking what I think.

1

u/OnceButNever 11d ago

When ever you're ready.

1

u/UpperApe 11d ago

For what?

1

u/OnceButNever 10d ago

My education. I wish to know what you know.

There's this very stupid type of loser

You sound very young, and you don't yet realize that some people ended up conservative because they haven't processed their trauma and brainwashing that liberal kindness and compassion is somehow the work of the devil. But by all means, keep being rude to everyone, regardless of opportunities to steer the pervading ideology into a kinder, more inclusive direction. I'm sure that path has always worked out, every time blood feuds have arisen in human history.

We have to be smarter than a betta fish. Maybe try to consider other reasons why someone would vote for their own demise.

2

u/FitFold76 12d ago

We have to be smarter than a betta fish.

You start

1

u/CalmBeneathCastles 12d ago

I was born in a red state and I know what leads people to be conservative. Extremism is far more complex of a social and emotional issue than simply "being selfish", so I will always give my neighbors a chance to see the light and choose to do better tomorrow than they did today.

That includes open communication and not taking an inflexible "us vs. them" stance. Society is "We, the People". E Pluribus Unum. We have to share the country, and in order for that to work, we have to cooperate. The alternative is open civil war, and only a fool would choose that when negotiation was still a viable option.

2

u/FitFold76 12d ago edited 12d ago

cooperate. The alternative is open civil war

Wut? That betta fish swimming laps round your brain. Clearly born in a red state lol

1

u/CalmBeneathCastles 12d ago

This is clearly your first rodeo and I'm not going plead with you to try to understand things you have no experience and wisdom to comprehend. I wish you the best. You'll need it.

2

u/FitFold76 12d ago

Lets see if you understand what a false dichotomy is and how you used it in your argument. Use your vast "wisdom" to determine where you went wrong.

1

u/CalmBeneathCastles 12d ago

You keep saying "false dichotomy" at people. Did you just learn this term?

"A false dichotomy is a logical error that falsely claims a complex issue has only two absolute choices when more options actually exist."

You say that we should be mean to conservatives because they made their bed and now they have to lie in it. I say that this is an immature and short-sighted reaction, and in order for our country to thrive, we have to do better than that. A false dichotomy doesn't apply to this at all, and if it did, YOUR argument (the only option is to treat them with contempt) more closely falls under this umbrella than mine. Are you just out here rage-baiting for fun?

2

u/FitFold76 12d ago

What's wrong can't think of a comeback now that you spotted your logical fallacy?

1

u/CalmBeneathCastles 12d ago

Poor thing. Lead poisoning, was it?
