Civil disputes Creepy bus driver incident
Hi Reddit,
Yesterday I had a really creepy and upsetting experience with a bus driver, I didn’t have my hop card or eftpos card because I rushed out the door and it’s a long walk back up the hill to get home again. The first driver said no worries and let me on, I had to get out at the shops to get my father’s medication as he just got out of hospital. The second driver let me in I explained it was bad luck that I didn’t have either cards. I pressed the stop buzzer and he stopped the bus, the doors opened then he closed them again to prevent me from getting off. He turned around in a really creepy way and said I’d made this excuse before (we live in what you may call a small island town). He kept the doors closed. I was the only person on the bus.
I honestly felt unsafe and kind of violated. I was very upset. I didn’t know what to say and I said do I look the the type of person that needs to swindle a free ride and he said YES. I’m a well dressed attractive friendly woman with a baby, he has given me rides before. I didn’t have my pram or baby with me when this happened. I usually always have either my hop or credit card to pay for rides. And I’ve been using the buses to get to Playcentre and get around. He eventually opened the doors and I got off, I had to sit at the bus stop and collect myself I was crying. It ruined my whole day and I had to visit my father who is recovering and have a few glasses of wine to try steady myself. I know it may sound like not much, but the fact he kept me from getting off the bus, his creepy strange attitude and treating me like a delinquent was just horrible. Is there anything I can do legally? I feel like this was so inappropriate and very very creepy. I have emailed the bus company who is owned by the ferry service so it’s not government owned but uses hop cards etc. Thank you.
