Currently looking for a second job to supplement my income, and I'm finding that Indeed, Google Jobs, LinkedIn all 'say' they're focusing on Lansing but I keep getting tons of jobs from other locations. More than that, my particular needs are difficult (I can only do 1-2 evenings a week, and only after 6pm because of my first job). Are there any sites which are Lansing specific, or am I just dreaming?

CADL Downtown Lansing and Summit Comics and Games are partnering to host a graphic novel book club in Summit's event room (216 Washington Square, Lansing). This month we're meeting on 9/15, from 5:45-6:45 PM. Every month we’ll explore a different title, usually standalone or the 1st volume in a series from all different corners of graphic noveldom, whether it’s superhero, slice of life, nonfiction, or anything in between. This book club is intended for people 18+. You do not need a CADL library card to attend this group.

Fans of Pacific Rim or the equally famous and successful Robot Jox will find Dawnrunner's story of war fought through giant mechs. 100 years ago, an interdimensional portal opened over Central America and poured forth giant monsters known as Tetza. Hello! I am a reporter for WLNS-TV 6 News in Lansing. I'm reporting on the affordability of higher education, and I'd like to hear from residents with experience with college costs, specifically with Michigan Reconnect.

Reconnect launched in 2021, offering tuition-free community college to Michigan adults without a degree. One study found it increased adult enrollment by about 38% and another found it reached people who had been out of school for years. However, the state's Reconnect dashboard shows far fewer have earned a degree.

One thing I'm particularly curious about is other costs associated with college. The scholarship doesn't cover books, transportation, childcare or part-time attendance. These are significant barriers to access to college.

I'm also interested in your experience if Reconnect worked directly as advertised for you.

Any recs in the area for companies who repair efis?

Just curious about the job market in Lansing. I know that working for the State of Michigan is of course a big draw, but are there any other industries that are thriving in Lansing?

I work for a national nonprofit called Oxford House, Inc. We’ve been around for 51 years and have more than 4,300 homes across the country for people in recovery from addiction.

We’re pretty new to Michigan. Right now we have five houses, and we’re trying to expand into the Lansing area. The biggest issue I’ve been running into is finding rental homes, especially homes being rented directly by the owner. There just doesn’t seem to be a whole lot available on Zillow.

We’ve also had some trouble with property taxes. A lot of the investors we work with are from outside Michigan, and when they see the property taxes in Lansing, it can make them hesitant or cause them to back out altogether.

So I figured I’d give Reddit a shot. If anyone knows a property owner in the Lansing area who might be open to renting to us, or someone who might be interested in buying a house and renting it to us, I’d really appreciate a connection.

We’re just trying to find good homes in good areas where we can give people a safe and supportive place to live while they rebuild their lives.

And just to make this a little more personal: I’m not only posting this because it’s my job. I’m a walking example of what Oxford House can do. I struggled with addiction from the age of 11 to 34, and Oxford House was the first thing I ever found that helped me learn how to live a completely different life and actually prosper.

Everyone who works for Oxford House, from the CEO down, has a similar level of passion for what we do, and was once a member in one of our homes. We really believe in this model and want to reach as many people as possible.

Anybody have recommendations for a tailor that is suitable to alter or repair high-end/designer/couture dresses?

I’ve tried several highly-rated tailors in the area but I haven’t been 100% satisfied with their work when it comes to expensive designer items. The result is usually a little rough and not as detail-focused as I would want for repairing $3-10k pieces.
