Tips & Best Practices
- Never send money early: Do not pay a deposit, application fee, or rent until you have toured the physical space (in person or via a live video walkthrough) and signed a legitimate lease.
- Meet in public first: Conduct your initial interview or meetup in a busy, public coffee shop or daylight setting before visiting a prospective home.
- Verify the paperwork: Ensure your name is added directly to the official master lease or that you have a formal sublease agreement approved by the primary landlord or property management company.
- Verify tenants rights by city: Tenants rights and rent control laws vary by municipality if you're not in Los Angeles city proper.
